Minicooperbrg Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I have a 2001 bugeye wrx 2.0 v7 5 speed and the big ends gone
Gambit Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Hi mate Welcome to S.O.C I believe it will fit without problems I don't think the mounts on an STI engine are different as long as you have the loom the gearbox ECU. ect, ect Will you have problems and hidden surprises and headaches when doing it I would almost put money on it, I don't mean that to put you off just be prepared. And make sure you have enough money and time to cover it.
Miggs Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 My mates bug wrx has a blob sti bottom end and the standard 5 speed wrx box, after squeezing 418bhp out of it and smashing 2 gearboxes he's now converting to a 6 speed box, the bug, blob and hawk are all interchangeable with front and rear panels so I would assume they share the same chassis meaning all engines from them models should be interchangeable too
Minicooperbrg Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Lovely that's what I was hopeing Thanx for the help off too the sti lump now 1
Miggs Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Sorry, 1 gearbox 2 clutches lol And your welcome bud, keep us posted
Gambit Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Yep interested to hear how your getting on with it :)
Minicooperbrg Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 Hi gambit if I just use the block and head from the sti and use my bugeyes ANCILLARY'S will I still need ecu, loom, ect ect
Tlag Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Hi, As you suggest, the easiest option is to use the long motor and swap everything else from the old motor. From memory, the engine mounts will work fine but even these can be swapped easily enough.
Miggs Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 The ecu and loom controls the timing and injectors on the engine, in theory you could swap all ancillaries from the old engine to the new and it will work On a previous conversion I've done (not subie) I fitted a seat engine from a 96 model car into an 89 vw, original engine was a 1.8 16v,new engine was a 2.0 16v,i stripped the 1.8 down to head and block, same with 2.0 and retro fitted all the parts over so all I had changed was the head and block, that worked perfectly as all electrics remained the same Sorry for the long explanation, just trying to clarify what I did
Gambit Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I think that would be away round it that could work I wouldn't want to say yes it will work that 100%, because I'm sure someone was doing something like this and there was one sensor they missed out or something so kept getting error codes flashing up all over. But this is what i meant about the headaches :)
Gambit Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Nice one looks nice and clean hope it all goes well. feel free to post any pictures as you are doing it :)
Minicooperbrg Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 Oh dear it's started(the headaches) The new lump as got avcs heads my baby hasn't. The headache is do I use my old heads or go down the disable the avcs road
Jay762 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 my 2p - I think you would be better using your old heads as it will match with the existing loom / sensors etc and wont confuse the ECU
Gambit Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Agreed. hope it goes well I'm sure you will manage it I have faith ;)
Gambit Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Nope lots of vodka whisky and crystal meth but does slow the work up a lot 1
