Hi All,

I'm looking at buying a Blob Eye WRX. Currently have a Civic Type R (FN2), i love it, but i want a change and something more mod-able. If any of you know about CTR's you'll know how much of a pain they are to mod. Its a highly strung NA engine and you're looking at around £3k+ to get anything around 50bhp gains.

I love Japanese cars, it has to be a turbo and ideally 4WD, so an Impreza is the obvious choice! and i love the shape of the blob eye.

It might be a bit naive but in my head i'm thinking that i'll sell the CTR and buy a semi-high mileage WRX then with the cash i'll have left over, and probably some savings turn the WRX into something special. I know you never get back the cash you put into a car which is why i want something as a solid base i can keep and love for a long time, keep working on it and not worry about not getting back the money i'm going to be putting in to it.

In my head im thinking;
BOV, just cos i need that sound in my life.
Handling; Strut braces, coilovers etc
Wide arches and other body mods
Get it wrapped

I expect that will run me £3k+

Then i can work on increasing the power as and when i feel the need / can afford. That said i wouldn't be chasing high figures, reliability would be my main concern.

It would be my daily for the foreseeable future, but my commute is less than 10miles a day so it hardly counts. It would be set up as more of a weekend toy but its has to be reliable enough to count on it to get me to work every day.

I know its mostly down to how the car has been looked after, but in general how do they fair after 100k miles? Would an 03/04 higher mileage WRX be a strong/ reliable enough foundation for what i'm after?
Would really appreciate any advice!

Thanks,

Welcome to the club. Well looked after Impreza's can last a very long time. A few of us are well over 150k.

Sounds like you got your head screwed on knowing what you want. Early power mods are reasonably cheap and most substantial will be the remap.

There a few sticky threads with buying guides and modification paths if you fancy some bedtime reading.

Thank you for the replies!
Should I be looking for a stock car then rather than something that has already some performance mods done?

Thanks for the link Geoff, though i've not sold my CTR yet so i'm not ready to buy at the moment.

An old work colleague that had an older WRX recommended ScoobyWorld, i had a look at the site last night and they have a few good looking packages, handling, gauges, performance pack.
Whats their reputation like?

Thats cool

Each to their own with how to go. There is something to be said for knowing what has been changed first hand.  Just look for performance mods not 'performance mods' if you go modified

Lets us know when your ready to go though and what you find and sorry no experience with ScoobyWorld.

Thanks very much! really appreciate the advice.

What i liked about scooby world was the packages they offer, performance packs and handling packs.

Basically drive in - drive out service, supply and fitting of handling and performance packages. Working full time its not always easy to get the car to a garage and back, take delivery of parts etc, so it seemed like a pretty handy option. Drive in, get a bunch of work done all at the same time and drive out with a totally different car.

Checking out tarmacsportz now, thanks!

Hey guys!

Thought I would come back with an update! I bought an Impreza! Decided to just go all the way and get an Sti instead!

Little rough around the edges stone chips and the carbon is a little faded but mechanically it's spot on. I can't wait to make it my own!
