Hi people.

Completely new to the Subaru scene.

I'm looking to get myself a 2006 WRX Impreza. Now I've seen that they do a 2.0 and a 2.5 engine with the same output power wise. Which one is the better engine in your opinion? Also I would be looking to do some cheeky upgrades make it a little quicker and look better. What is the must do?

Thanks

Welcome!

2006 would have to be 2.5 I believe.  2.0 l stopped 2005.  You will get many different views on which is best but all really come down to personal experience I guess.  2.0 more reliable power but 2.5 more torque.  For not a lot of money you can get more power, exhaust, filter and map are the most common routes.  There are some good threads on here and plenty of experience.   Dig in

Hey and welcome to SOC......

As above, 2L is a great engine and more reliable, and the 2.5L more for torque:thumbup:

Thanks for the welcome and advice. Looks like a 2.0 then. I'm looking at a few cars at the moment and I know the Subaru isn't the fastest but it's going to be the most modern.

If I end up with one then I'll definitely trying to get more power. First thing would be is brakes unless they are up to it.

One last thing really. Are that parts interchangeable like Nissans? You can put skyline bits on a 200sx with barely only modification. I was thinking maybe that internals of a WRX STI in a WRX or that calipers etc? Might be a better option than buying aftermarket parts.

Wotcha and welcome - some parts are interchangeable some not - for instance there are differences in chassis and hub components between later WRX and STI models.

If you have patience and do your respearch upgrades / mods can be had at very good prices check out Rollomites build thread he achived a huge amount on a very tight budget

Cheers. Budget isn't an issue as such. I was thinking that the brakes in a STI would be better than a WRX as it's got more power. More likely to be cheaper than crappy aftermarket ones as well. Same thing with the turbo. Of course I'd have to look into it more. Never owned a turbo petrol before. I would definitely be looking to get more power out of it though. Hopefully up near 260bhp if not more.

The STI Brembos brakes would be the way to go .  Got them on my Leggy and very happy.

You shouldnt have any issues hitting 260 BHP with stock turbo, decent exhaust, intake and map.  Bigger turbo, injectors and other bits will see you over 300 BHP.

Brilliant cheers for that.

I've seen a few for sale with a front splitter and some without. Is this an extra? I do like that look of it. Would definitely buy one

Brilliant just gave that a read. 250bhp would be brilliant and doesn't seem to cost the world.
