Hi just thought I would say hi as Iv just bought my first Subaru Impreza it's only a 99 uk 2000 running about 250bhp well that's what the previous owner said, i also signed up as I haven't got a clue about these cars except there nothing like Iv driven before so hi

Welcome , best off checking who mapped it to start ! Welcome to the danger zone

How do I check if it's remapped and where is the ecu located and you will be getting a lot of stupid questions from me has I haven't a clue about these cars

Wotcha and welcome - ECU located passenger foot well, check this thread for lots of info currently being discussed

and this thread for things to do if you get bored

Got a receipt for a map might be a good start

or if it's a sp Ecu ( has a sticker )

Right I looked under the plate where the ecu is and all it says on it is v5 so does that mean anything to anyone and can I swap that out for a better one

ifs its been remapped to run 250 bhp you will have a ecutek license

only way to tell is to take it to a ecutek mapper ,

matt is right, to get 250bhp out of 99 2000 it would have been remapped. v5 is a standard ecu which as matt said can be remapped if you had a license, did the seller provide any receipts that would state payment for ecutek license and did he provice a dyno sheet.

Or even worse heaven forbid install a boost controller (manual one)

It's already got a manual boost controller running between 14-15 psi

Oh I would go see a professional asap

Do you know anywhere in Kent area that could help me out then

Gravesend

Not far from me. I'm up near bluewater. There is a place in Canterbury called East Kent Subaru. He's a respected breaker but quite knowledgeable. For mapping I used Duncan Graham @racedynamix. He visits eks onelce a month too.
