donnylad Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Hey guys! I have just found the club through google, I dont own a subaru yet, but I am looking at selling my car to pay some debts off and it will leave me around £2500 to spend on a car. I am thinking of an impreza. Dont know what I can get for this budget or if it is even worth it. But I guess thats why I have signed up to try and find out! Cheers!
Scoobyghost Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Welcome to the club! 2500 is a good budget. It could get you a reasonable classic. Middle ground mileage. Look for standard cars if possible. It's not always a rule but then you'll know that any work done is fresh.
donnylad Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 Thanks! I was thinking that if I could get a standard low owner unabused model it could be better, I can always do the mods myself as I want to then. I am going to look into model changes next and what years are what etc, is there a page on here that explains it all or is wiki my best way? thanks'!
Scoobyghost Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 There was a thread here explaining all the classic variations but I can't find it right now. Standard cars are hard to find especially low owners, low mileage and unmolested. You're almost looking for hens teeth.
kayzarh Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 welcome and be sure to ask away, i personally got my suuby as a non-runner for £1300, it was a risk and it payed off !
Gambit Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Welcome to S.O.C And yeah £2.500 good starting budget.
Jimmymac101 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Welcome mate, if you cant find a decent one have a look at the non turbo ones they fairly cheap with low miles and low owners! Mines for sale but is £5800 :) James
Mark D Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Saw a blue W reg turbo with 2. Owners, 160,000 miles, MOT Feb in Norwich going for £1500 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
donnylad Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 cheers mark, looks decent just need my beemer to sell first! I dont think I could go for a NA one, I am guessing it would be very very slow?
Mark D Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Errmm.. Yep :( also mines an auto.. With.. 4 gears :'( can also get turbo legacies as well though! Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
Mark D Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Haha just thought, the car before mine was also a bmw! Maybe someone from Subaru snuck into the bmw factory and installed some subliminal message inside their cars somewhere... You heard it here first! Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk 1
Scoobyghost Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 You're all just realising that compulsory ar$€hole attitude is bad for your health 😂😂😂
Mark D Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 https://vimeo.com/179814292 Yeah, don't think I would have done this in the Subaru :( did nothing to the couch (wouldn't fit in the back) but slightly bent neighbouring garage door o.o Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
Scoobyghost Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 What was the plan there? 🤔😂 First looked like the old park against a wall and spin the tyres for epic lulz.
Gambit Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Funny when I had the M3 I used to joke about jumping red lights and not using indicators because people just expect it And that's a first for me to see a sofa being broken
Mark D Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 The sofa didn't fit in the back, that was our clever lazy way of breaking it. It didn't break, we started to think it was made of rock :O I think we ended up breaking some of it by hand and letting a lot of it hang out the back with rope (in the countryside only a mile or so from recycling Center) Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk 1
Gambit Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Haha I know what you mean. If the kids jump on the arm guaranteed they will break it with ease but soon as you want to smash it up it really is like a rock. I know when I smashed an old one up had a sledge hammer to it unbelievable how much I had to hit it before it broke
Jimmymac101 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 non turbo scoobys are surprisingly nippy! take one for a test drive if you get a chance/ cant find a turbo one James
Scoobyghost Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 That may only apply to newage. We had a 2.0N/A classic and it was sluggish as hell. Could just be me though. Once you've driven a turbo everything else feels slow.
Jimmymac101 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 My 2008 non turbo is faster than my brothers a4 saloon. he was flat out and i was long gone haha but that turbo comment is soooooo true, nothing ever compares! James
donnylad Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 problem is im coming from a 300 bhp 520ft/lb bmw, does 0-60 in around 5 and has hit 170 mph! :D
Gambit Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 4 minutes ago, donnylad said: problem is im coming from a 300 bhp 520ft/lb bmw, does 0-60 in around 5 and has hit 170 mph! :D yeah you need turbo and quicker to 60 too
donnylad Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Yeah my idea with a scoob is a daily runner doing 14 miles per day 5 per week, and they I can use it on the track every now and again also. Our lass has a disco for our family car.
