Hi guys , I purchased a 08 plate diesel legacy and the gearbox is gone and nearly the rear diff as well. I was wondering if the outback transmission would go on to it , I haven't got the part code yet and was wondering if anyone knew if it would be compatible. Thanks in advance .

Hi, I can't help you with the mechanical question however welcome along, I'm sure someone will be able to assist you shortly.

Are you asking Legacy diesel to OB diesel? Ratios may be different, not sure about mountings. Obviously, differing diff ratios wouldn't work front to rear.

Have a look at your vin plate on the strut tower in the engine bay,

The gearbox code is stamped on it

In theory you should just be able to find a replacement with same code and it will go straight in,

If you can't find a match you'll need to swap diffs driveshafts and possibly hubs to keep correct ratios & stop it all eating it's self

Yeah it's from a diesel to a diesel , I'm just going to play it safe and get a like for like , that should save any unwanted hassle , they ate just so hard to find in the diesel version . Thanks for your help 😁.

Fantastic buddy didn't know the code was there , I'll have a look in the morning and see if it makes it easier to find one with the part code . Thanks a lot , much appreciated . 😁
