Took icv out, clean as a whistle...the gauge behind it's a bit dirty but nothing bad at all, does this mean it's probably knackered

I would check the MAFS always a good place to start with idle problems. Throttle body could be all blacked up but I'm not sure that it's an easy fix unless you know what you are doing but I guess some cleaner sprayed into the intake manifold would do the same job but not as good. Tlag or MD might be able to aid better then that. 02 sensor another thing that could be doing it :( I know these are never easy fixes idle problem's from when I've had them before :(

is this on first start up, as mine does it when its cold, howver the slightest tap to the accelerator brings the revs down, I believe its to warm the oil and engine up, mine idles around 1200, if not as Gambit said.

Do you have a dump valve? These can sometimes cause idle issues. With the engine running have a a listen around the induction side post MAF and around the BOV/recirc for a noise like air escaping. It could be something as simple as a split somewhere allowing air in after the MAF which would definitely cause idle issues.

If you still have your original recirc then it might be an idea to refit that just to see if that improves things. If not then you have at least ruled it out.

No don't have it, I'll try the spray too, it's jus a pita, they're thirsty enough without high idling using up more !Removed! juice

Any local members to you who might let you borrow a recirc for half an hour?

I know we have people up your way but not sure how close to you they would be :( And like you said if they are reading it :(

I know, and if they're not reading it that's it, even if they are they might think, I'm not taking bits for someone I don't know....don't blame them, see what happens if anything

I had that sqeak too! Same thing... Alternator belt loose! Is that a common prob with scoobys? Cuz my 1st one had same prob too. I thought it was just my bad luck :(

Posted

most cars get that with use / time the alternator belts stretch slightly

Posted

Same with all belts over time! Tis why they need replacing, mine was a new belt done judge before I got ιt just don't think they tensioned ιt quite enough

Ah... Nice one. Guess I didn't use my other cars as much. But they weren't as much fun as the Scooby is.

Knackered TGV's can give irregular idle, this happened to me.

Normally flashes up a CEL though on the dash which you can check out. would get it looked over.

Could be something simple like badly gapped plugs though as i know these can also give crappy idle.
