Ianb2019 Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 Hi guys, New owner here, 55reg Forester 2.5, just wondering if anyone knows an independent in the Plymouth area? I've got a few issues that need sorting, I've googled and come across Alan Jeffries at engine tuner(?), at the moment I'm not looking to do any mods (money is a bit tight now!) So need to just repair a few bits at this stage. Thanks Ian

Ianb2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Author Posted May 23, 2019 Hey guys, took it into engine tuner in Plymouth area. Guy said it's the secondary air pump, cost to replace the actual part with genuine Subaru is like £500+, but they can remove and delete from ecu for 120+vat. Either way I won't be paying for it, but what would you guys do? Obviously I have to weigh up time plus 400miles drive + fuel + the hope the dealer does a good job and doesn't just bodge a fix vs a seemingly reputable shop that can stop it from ever happening again.. Any advice would be great.
stuartie Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I'm not really up to date with the newage stuff mate but i think most folk just get it mapped out coz like you say it's the cheapest option 😎👍 1
Ianb2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Author Posted May 24, 2019 Thanks buddy, I'm going to contact the 'dealer' today and see what he proposes based on the above options... if he puts up resistance about me getting it blanked, I might just wait until the warranty is up, then get it blanked myself. £144 in one hit if it comes out of my pocket is probably better than £100 odd in fuel only to have it replaced and no doubt fail further down the line costing me £144 at a later date anyway....
Ric Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Alan Jeffries has been around the mapping scene for many years, he has a lot of experience. I believe its his son Martyn who races a mapped and modded classic Impreza at some of the drag and drift events around here (and is one of the fastest). I would trust them. If you were to look further afield, Scoobybits in the Truro area in cornwall has a good rep, and is a subaru specialist.
Jay762 Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Wotcha and welcome - I would go for the air pump delete option, one less thing to go wrong 😊
