stants Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Does anyone use them, have any reconmendations ? Seriously thinking of getting on for my van due to the amount of totally amazing drivers and their skills out there. Had a lady miss me by inches the other day after not seeing my massive van and coming across my front to go straight on from a right turn lane. At least if the worst happens i have some solid evidence to preasent to insurers/the law etc
Gambit Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I'v thought about getting one myself or getting a webcam rigged up to the PC and some recording software. Only ones I'd looked at was the 1080p HD cams that bikers used as I thought I could put it on the bonnet scoop or any where on the car and move it around, other then that I didn't look to much into them.
stants Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 Your uses sound a bit suspect to me, what with the leather chaps living in the sticks. Sure your not out to catch doggers ? ;-) Seriously there look like some good ones out there but cost a fair wack. From what i've read As long as the definition can pick up number plates clearly that's about all you need to go as high as. Least it can be used in prosecution. I've just downloaded an app which looks ok i'll give it a trial run over the next week or so. Least that way i can mount in car/van without any hassle. Could always go for a gopro camera but the are quite a bit and i wouldn't want to leave it attached all the time in my car
Jay762 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 looked at the mirror mount ones similar to the ones that get used as part of insurance policies - the only thing that put me off was probably shooting myself in the foot and having it used against myself
Gambit Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 No I use a tripod mounted camera for my dogging sessions ;) And I did think about that to Jay. But I would make sure it wasn't on or even in the car if it was the case :D And have to let us know how the app goes. I still think I could get a good Hi-def Web cam to work for me though.
Miggs Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 what about a Bluetooth camera so you can use your phone to record the info via Bluetooth?
Jay762 Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 the mirror mount ones I was looking at are basically are hi def webcams just in different housings
Gambit Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 had a look on youtube look's pretty clear but not great for plates http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/In-Vehicle-Car-DVR-Dash-Camera-Cam-Road-Video-Recorder-Night-Vision-270-Adjust-/310701738831?pt=UK_CCTV&hash=item4857444b4f and cheap too to be fair :) Only down side both from China But this is a lot better quality http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2013-Newest-DVR207-HD-720P-In-Car-Camera-IR-Vehicle-Dash-Cam-DVR-Recorder-HDMI-/290967731238?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item43bf073c26 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjmwBlQpD30
stants Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 Downloaded an app called auto gaurd, just not been out and about to test it. Seems to have loads of features. Just waiting to get a decent cradle now
Ash007ks Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 check out ghost cams :) small and very good, im getting one as soon as ive sorted the other motorbike out :) you would think a race exhaust and a bright Black and green helmet would give you away but apparently not lol.
stants Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 If i've got this right should be able to see the video of the autogaurd app in action. Not bad for free
stants Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 You know i was gonna congratulate myself on my 1st ever youtube upload and managing to nearly make tapa talk work. B****cks Can i go in and edit it ?
stants Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Even managed to edit it onmy own too. Fingers crossed should work now ?
Jay762 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Yup that worked no problem - didnt get any sound, dont know if that was supposed to be like that but video footage was fine
Gambit Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Yep same for me no sound but the video was clear enough I could see the lacquer has come away from the scoop ;)
stants Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Haha, i've disabled the sound othewise it records the phone conversations when Bluetooth on. Plus i wouldn't want anyone taking the **** out of my musical choice or general commentary about other road users !
Gambit Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Plus i wouldn't want anyone taking the **** out of my musical choice or general commentary about other road users ! Hell we all have this problem :D
Miggs Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Lovely and clear video, but no sound, is that in a phone cradle on the vents or the windscreen, I think I'm gonna get that app just need a cradle, my Stereo has bluebook so it does leave my pocket, do you have coil overs by chance, I spotted some pot hole avoidance and I see there's a distinct low car bounce over small bumps
stants Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 I'm gonna have a play around with the sound features, you can upgrade to a paid version for 1.79 think it may be able to do more sound wise. It's a cradle i bit the bullet and bought a genuine Samsung one. Solid as a rock well made just need to get the view sorted. Think that's why the ride looks bumpy That pot hole is more like a ravine, been there at last 10 years even in the van it's horrendous. Force of habit avoiding it. Was my route to work till 18 months ago Standard set up with stardard springs the roads are just bad, haha
stants Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Up untill yhe last android o/s update all my contacts were on the Stereo now i can't get it to load them in either using bt or cable :'( so now i can dial without holding phone again
Gambit Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 It's like that round my end I even aim for the Badgers to avoid some of them.
stants Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Hit a badger to avoid one of those big f**k off drainage ditches at the side of he road
Gambit Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Yeah pretty deep them :D I've seen many a car in there more so over winter. Seen Motorbikes come off and end in there too. One died about 2 years ago :(
Miggs Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I know what you mean, I know where to swerve at certain points on the roads, the council pay less in compo for damage to vehicles than it costs to fix them so they leave them there As for the phone holder, I try and get universal ones as I'm always changing my phone so a model specific one would be useless to me after a few months, I have however thought of getting one for my tablet as I put tomtom on it and I quite fancy a 7" sat navigation lol, trouble is there's no camera on the back so it wouldn't be any use as a camera, I might see if I can cobble something together
