BRZ

Hi I am new here and after some advice.  I am thinking about buying the new Subaru BRZ, Im hoping you aren't all Impreza drivers!!  My current car is a Z4 2.5.  I love the look of the BRZ and it sounds like my sort of car. So does anyone on here have any comments on them to help me make by mind up.  My recent car history to give you an idea of what I like is.  I bought an 04 WRX impreza new and then followed that with an 06 WRZ Impreza, then came a Lotus Elise 111R and I currently have the Z4 2.5 and a Mini Cooper S.  So any comments on the BRZ would help me decide.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi mate welcome to S.O.C

No we're not all Impreza drivers we do have a good range of Forester and Legacy drivers too But no BRZ drivers that have posted anyway. Only person I've spoken to was the Toyota version driver who loved his and it did look and feel very nice when I sat in it but never drove it it was just parked up. So I won't be able to help sorry :(

I think Subaru dealers should hire me to test there cars :D

So the latest Subaru newsletter advises they are bringing more BRZ's into the UK.

slightly lighter than the Z4 but slightly less power so will probably be similarities however the tuning potential is quite significant so if you are willing to invest a little the end result should trump the Z4

oh and welcome ;)

Thanks guys.  One thing that surprises me is the number of 12 plate cars for sale with only a few hundred miles on them.  They are in main dealers but don't say they are ex demos for anything just seems strange to me.

Welcome aboard, I like the look of them myself but that's the limit of my experience with them, I think many buyers have been expecting impreza turbo performance and have been disappointed when they haven't got it, if I was in the market for one I'd be tempted to look at the supercharger kits you can get for them

aye, that's the ticket lol

i like the low down grunt of a supercharger and in some cases the whine you get from the way it runs, that being said turbo's will usually give more at the top end so i suppose it's what you want to do with the car, if high speed is your thing then i guess turbos the way if you like to do fast road or track driving you may prefer supercharger

all this talk of more power and mods and all he asked was what do we think  sorry pal, i'll try and keep on topic in future

I think given how tidy that install looks and the drivers car concept of the BRZ I think I would go for the supercharger - constant power delivery whilst rear wheel steering, sweet :P

I read in one of the mags about the work Litchfield was doing to improve the BRZ, brakes and handling pack was a big one as they reckoned the wheels were a little too narrow and started from there...

but each too their own and fair play to them ;) - keep us posted on what you decide to do :)

Welcome!

I do love these. I would have one in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

I hear a lot of people buy them (well the GT86 anyways since these are nigh on impossible to find) but are disappointed by the lack of power and decide the idea of it was better than the reality unfortunately. Which would explaintp the low mileage re sales -that aren't dealer ones.

Have to admit if I got one I'd have to supercharge it. 197bhp wasn't enough i my CTR so it certainly wouldn't be enough in one of these I don't think. But I'd want to keep the n/a style of power delivery so supercharging over turbo IMO for these. But around 250-300bhp and RWD plus those looks do it for me :)

Here's one of the few I saw at JAE, looks great in the metal!

Also have you seen the STi one? Looks even better. Book a test drive and see what you think and see if the lack of grunt bothers you. Can't hurt can it? :)

From what I can find no date is set yet but everyone is pointing to November with a £6k + added to the price of a normal BRZ. Also it doesn't show any signs of having a turbo or Supercharger just a slight increase of BHP the wing/spoiler and quad exhausts, extra rear ducting, some Gold alloy's :(
