use the summer wheels and tyres just before winter for some sideways fun and winter wheels with winter tyres fitted and all the fun you like going sideways just before you fit summer wheels back on, that way you can buy 1 tyre every month rather than all 4 at once and it doesn't seem as expensive :D

getting a bit peeved with this insurance company now

accident happened boxing day, called insurance the day after to give em chance to be sorted after xmas in the office, they took all the info and said a company called Kindertons would be in touch as they will be dealing with it all

same day Kindertons called and said they were dealing with it all and took all the info, they said they would be in touch to arrange a courtesy car

day after a breakers yard calls and said they were calling on behalf of my insurers as they are down south they wanted to pick the car up to store it until the insurance could collect for inspection, i said i'd call them back when i've spoken to insurance

called insurers, they denied all knowledge and told me to talk to Kindertons as they do all the arranging

called Kindertons they said it was nothing to do with them must be the insurer, called the ins, they said not to let them touch the car at all, called the breakers and repeated this they said it was fine

few mins later ins calls me and had a go at me for cancelling the breakers picking the car up

i told them the situation they said they'd look into it

2 days later northern assessors called and said they'd come on the Monday to inspect the car on the drive to assess damage

day after Kindertons called and said JP morris was coming Tuesday to look at the car

i mentioned about the first ones they said nothing to do with them, called ins again no knowledge

Monday comes and goes no calls or visits, Tuesday the JP guy came, looked at it and left

Thursday Kindertons called and said it's a cat C write off and the ins would be in touch to sort an amount and cheque

Monday just gone a salvage yard in Dorset called to collect the car for scrapping, i told them the insurance still hadn't given me a price and the fact i wanted the car back, they apologised and said they would contact ins for me, few hours later ins called and said they needed to send an assessor out ???  i told them they had been one already they said that was for Kindertons (the accident management company working on behalf of the insurance) and they needed their own to look at the car, a bit dumbfounded and confused i just said right then do what you need to and put the phone down

get's a call yesterday from an accident repair company locally, they said they wanted to pick the car up for repair, i again informed this guy that the car apparently needed assessing again as it's supposed to be a write off, he was not aware of this and said he would come get the car Friday to be looked at, i mentioned the last guy came to the house to do that he said "oh ok, i can send someone out for 4pm today if that's good for you" so last night i had it assessed again, just waiting to hear from them now see what THIS result yields, what an absolute farce

all the while i have not had a courtesy car nor have i been offered one or asked if i need one :(:wacko::blink::angry:

imports don't show up on uk insurance computers via the reg so unless the log book says GL you can't get away with cheap insurance, there were no uk WRX cars or STI's until after the classic shape, all classics are turbo 2000 models for uk ones, i looked at an import before i got my wagon, that just said impreza 2.0 on the log book, i tried to blag it for the insurance but they wouldn't accept it

I've used direct line in the past when I had my first accident, taxi ploughed into the side of the car, although direct line were top notch with everything the company the employed to repair the car was extremely incompetent and I vowed never to use direct line again as they don't allow you to choose where the cars taken

In March I got knocked off my Honda VFR800 (last of the pre-vtech) motorbike going into Edinburgh. A young lady who blabbed that she was in a hurry whilst going on holiday clipped my back wheel on the rear left-hand side, so you can guess whose fault that was. Went down the road in a heartbeat, but fortunately I bounced good for an old bird. Angry? My pic may look soft and hippy, but you wouldn't have wanted to be on the wrong end of that one.

Luckily(?!) this happened 2 miles away from an established bike workshop where I know the guys well, and despite the damage (broken footpeg and gear change lever, and a few scuffs) I managed to get into 2nd gear and stayed in 2nd all the way. The guys were great, and gave me a restricted 125cc Suzuki VanVan (couldn't pull the skin off a custard, but handles really well) as a loaner to get me to work. I hope it's ok on the forum to say bless you Saltire Suzuki, especially Mike, you rock.

Back to the point... The insurance company (Aviva) said ok to have the bike fixed there. Lucky me. I was told by various bike mates that damaged vehicles can be taken 'down south' for repairs and often come back 'fixed' but in a more dubious state.

I use an Edinburgh insurance broker for the Scoobie and both bikes, they have a direct line to UK contacts so I don't have to deal with overseas call centres. £15 added to my yearly outgoings is worth it.

If anyone reading this is also a biker please invest in shrooms or crash bars. The plastic fantastic was untouched. If that had gone the bike would probably have been written off.

Always useful to know where to get great service from

echo the shrooms advice - although I had to cut the fairing panels on my bike to fit them I was much happier getting the bike right over

came home yesterday after forking out over £600 for the wifes dual mass on her car to find a letter on the door mat, opens it up and it's a solicitors letter saying the woman who clipped my car is denying it was her fault, this is gonna be so much fun

tell you what, if i didn't have bad luck i'd have none at all

Yep know this feeling well :(

Take it nobody else came forward as witness to your claims. And worst thing about this is it will drag out for ages :(

no, the only witnesses were 3 passengers in my car, they said as they are my passengers it's not an unbiased version of events, i don't know whether to use what funds i have to get a car on the hope they find in my favour or having the luck i do it may be best to wait it out as i probably won't get anything lol

i wouldn't mind but she kept saying sorry at the scene so i didn't call the plod as i assumed she was admitting it being her fault

:( I'd say it will be taken in your favour but I would play it safe and go with you won't get paid and if you do it's a bonus. But I know what I'm like with cash and see something I want, I can't wait ;)

There's a bloke relatively local to me that's had the subies for sale, 2 white classics and a blue blob, the classics are both at 2.5k and look sweet as, I was gonna ask him how much he'd sell one for if I bring my own wheels lol

insurance runs out on the 22nd and as the wife's not got a job yet I think I'll just start stripping the wagon and play it by ear from there, ideally could do with the savings for the mortgage

well, been a short while since my last post but it was only yesterday i got the call, again telling me for the second time from a second assessor the cars a cat c write off, when i got my car insurance i gave myself a huge excess based on the fact if the crash was my fault i'd repair or sell the car myself, if it was another persons fault i wouldn't have to pay the £500, the woman who
hit me is now saying i hit her so i have to pay the excess, i got a call yesterday from the assessor saying the repairs would cost £1850 so the cars a write off, they value the car at £950, minus the excess is £450, i can buy back for £108 (which is what i'm going to do so with the rest i'm supposed to be able to buy parts and get it painted, he said he's found numerous 97 impreza turbos for between £900 and £1000 so that's where the figure came from, i spent 5 hours yesterday trying to find one with his criteria, 60 miles or less from my house, upto £1000 for the car, 97 turbo 2000 impreza wagon with around 155k on the clock, which he said was high mileage for it's age??? where does he get this crap, i found nothing at all anywhere, i have 2 A4
pages of websites looked at and not one has the cars he's "seen"

time for an argumentative phone call me thinks

in my searches yesterday i found early turbo's for that money but no facelift ones, there were tons of sports and a couple of bug eye sports, there was 1 saloon 98 model with similar mileage but i'm gonna argue the toss as i am supposed to get like for like and mines a wagon so it should be a wagon i get paid for, not sure if i can push it and say it has to be green and bull him by saying i originally looked for ages to find a green V3 wagon lol

the few i did find that were the same or similar were priced at £1450-£2150 from 40 miles to 240 miles away from my address, only 1 was a wagon too, plus as i will be sent a cheque the time it will take the cheque to clear the car will likely be sold

that might work in my favour if this plays out long enough, i could get more money, sad thing is my luck i'll get more but while the cheque clears the price will rise a lot lol

i really don't want to settle for something non subaru, the wifes said we can afford to use £500 from the savings to cover the excess so i would technically be getting a full payout in terms of funds for a new car, did you know eBay limits you to 200 watched items, i filled it the other day on cars and parts
