hilli182 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 finally getting round to fitting the down pipe later today :D just hope the existing bolts come out without issues 1
hilli182 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 may be a little longer than thought, the bumper is too low for the ramps i have so that's got to come off first, shouldn't be a big task though
hilli182 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Spotted first problem before I even start. My original has what I'm assuming is the sensor fitted in top of the down pipe. The decay one I have doesn't have any where to fit this :-/ .........
stants Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Thats bad news, main o2 sensor essential take it you mean the one directly behind the turbo ? Could get one fabricatd
hilli182 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Yep that one. Do all imprezas have that there? Just that all the decats I saw on eBay didn't have to hole to fit one. I don't think so anyway
stants Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 The n/a cars have it in a different place underneath the engine where the two meet into 1. All turbos do though :-(
hilli182 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 The pipe I've bought came off a wrx how would it have been fitted to that ?
stants Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Am i confusing myself or are we talking about the same bit, downpipe from the turbo ? Or second section ?
hilli182 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 down from the turbo, it attaches to the pipe just behind / after the heat shield, Ill get a pic in a minute. The guy I bought it from breaks imprezas and said it had come from a wrx
stants Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Yep deffo need that hole there, maybe he's sold you one for a newage wrx ? Not sure where the sensors are on those. After looking at the wrx diagram on page 1 i'd say youve got the wrong one. They have one before the up pipe and one inbetween the two cats in the centre pipe
hilli182 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Dammit I see what you mean with the wrx being on the second cat rather than the first. This is frustrating now lol. I've messaged the guy see if he has another but no doubt I won't here back from him. So I guess my options are buy another or get a hole put in this one... I'm assuming the pipe will be the same length etc Anybody know what size thread is on the O2 sensor then?
stants Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Maybe stick that one on the bay and start again ? If you'd asked that question the other week i could have given you an answer. The nut is a 22 mm on the outside.as for the length i'd never assume !
hilli182 Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Ok well thanks for the help. Glad I spotted it before taking it all off. Should have checked before tho dammit
hilli182 Posted March 23, 2014 Author Posted March 23, 2014 So I've just won another decat pipe from eBay and got it mega cheap. And it's a proper UK turbo version not a wrx ☺
BlackBosh Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I must have been lucky then my down pipe has 2 holes and a blanking nut for both types and ye you're right the 2nd o2 sensor is under the car near the gearbox
hilli182 Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 it is now fitted :D it is a 3 inch reducing to 2.5 inch, came with the hole in correct place and a blanking nut in, removed that and was a straight fit this time round so now have cone filter, decat down pipe and magnex back box, the sound is great with the decat pipe, had a few loud pops from it already, louder pops than i had before the decat anyways :) 2
