salsa-king
best i can find if the cover over it http://www.japanparts.com/images/ImageFromDB.php?base=1&no=45193 it has a chrome little knob on the end you press and the key comes out, just in case you have a flat key fob baterry etc. then you can disarm the alarm by the press button key pad in the car. You know about the Key Pad?

lee1981
Ah ****!! Can I order one from dealer with the original key from the chassis number?? Or will I get a blank key??
salsa-king
might be worth a try. Nottm Subaru Derby (Beechwood) Subaru might be worth seeing who offers club discounts, I know the above do for MidlandScoobies memebers
Scooby Pete
Also make sure you ask them to assign a new "number" to the key and car so the old key won't work.
Gambit
Yep I agree most important thing really is to make sure the old key is useless.
salsa-king
as long as the fob is sync'd to the ECU for the immobiliser/keyless entry. Even if someone has a key, its not going to be driven away.
Gambit
Could they still not get in the car then ?
BoozyDave
Any news on this yet?
Rick 2014
From what ive read of this thread it defo isn't the head gasket or ecu. When you switch the ignition on in most cars the fan comes on automaticly telling you there is a fault. The fan being on like that is like limp mode the car protecting its self.If this doesn't happen the eml will be on and drive in limp mode.To me the problem is with the wiring loom in the engine bay sounds like when the work was done on the engine the wires have been trapped in some thing.Id replace the engine bay loom and have done with it.The guy you bought it off defo new about this problem and fobbed the car off to an innocent buyer. You would have a hard time proving this. Gambit
He sorted that problem out mate. It was the loom in the end. His new problem is he had the key stolen from a garage that was doing some repairs but it's also his mate who can't afford to cover the costs and isn't insured :(
