stants Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 My bilt & hamber clay is dead, so recommendations for some new stuff please ? Bought it as it works with just water, but found it left residue on monday maybe because it''s old. Whats the meguires stuff like or should I be looking at something else ?
quit Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I had mequires was ok but expensive Got a 3m one now off eBay it's huge
Scooby Pete Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I'd stick with B&H tbh. I have migures at the mo and will be switching to B&H when this one is dead.
bowthruster Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Ive always wanted to clay my car,but I don't have a clue about. Is it roughly clay/water and rubbing the paintwork etc.Is it easy?Dont mind hard work but don't want to make the paintwork worse(knowing my luck).
stants Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 Cheers pete, may go for the soft or medium one this time then, Bowthruster, it's really simple just use loads od lube and don't press on too hard. Have a look on youtube for ways of doing it. I like using the bilt&hamber stuff as can use it with water, being paranoid about scratching the car I use a hosepipe on trickle wet an area on the car about a square foot then just rub the car with clay, always go in same direction. You'll feel it stick on the particles and after a couple of passes it will be smooth as silk.
bowthruster Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Cheers stant, will have to look into it.Same here paranoid about F***ing it up
stants Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 As long as you give it a really thorough clean before hand should be ok, I've just done subaru for the 1st time although it looked clean it felt rough as, afterwards my mum commented that it was like silk. You can see the dirt come off onto the clay. All you do is knead the clay into a fredh side and carry on. Well worth doing
bowthruster Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 When you say clean before hand-just a good wash then,no polish.Silky smooth :D
stants Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 Yep, really good clean then clay re wash if needed, may be some streaks from the clay then cut polish wax etc :-D
bowthruster Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Cheers for that.Cant wash my car at the mo,as stickers were put on yesterday, and told me not to wash the car for a few days!So i sitting here bored out of my mind.Nothing to tinker with neither :(
david1972 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Megs for me mate....Amazon tends to be cheapest for the full kit and the clay bars are bigger now Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
Scooby Pete Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Only thing with the megs is that you have to have the quick detailing spray to lubricate it. The Bilt Hamber works with just water so saves you the £16 for the spray and the B&H clay cost just under £11 so it better value for money. They also do 3 compounds regular medium and soft. So for the price of the megs kit you can get a regular and soft. http://www.bilthamber.com/clay-bars
david1972 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 True mate [emoji106] ; I just like to use something that I'm happy with the results from. If it costs a few extra quid, so be it [emoji1] Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
