No, they are definitely Impreza. I just spoke to the person I got them from and he says it was definitely an imported classic Impreza but can't remember which version but thinks it's v3/4.
-
I have a pair as you describe in my Legacy. No idea where they came from though. (All I know is, it was an Impreza) :)

Just to clarify, you have the same problem now with the new engine that you had with the old engine? What exactly was swapped? If you swapped just the long motor, then it's no surprise. However, as you have tested all the sensors, coil pack, put new plugs in, etc, it can only be on the fuel side. The fuel pump is a good call. Due to the way the fuel flows around, number 3 cylinder will not get sufficient fuel if the pump is weak. If you drive it like that, it will simply overheat on number 3 and cause a lot of damage.

Now the frustrating bit. I can't actually drive it anywhere at the moment. It needs a base map putting on the ecu so I can get an mot and run it in. Then I can get a full map. I have sent the mapper an email so I just have to wait now. Although, I still have an interior to put back, bumper to cut to take the FMIC, and various other stuff. I should be able to do that while waiting for the mapper though. Running in will be 50 miles below 2000 rpm, the next 250 below 3000rpm and the next 250 up to 3500 rpm, unless the mapper recommends a different approach. I don't mind the running in as I'll try and get it done in 2-3 days.

It lives :) :) :)

Thanks Gambit, it is a nice one. I just realised that I haven't explained in the advert. For those that don't know it's a JDM Legacy 2.0l twin turbo model. That's 280bhp as standard and 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. These are real practical sleepers.

That's a beaut. I've always loved that colour on the Impreza.

I would say that's a wise choice, fitting a cooler. I don't know of any makes but I'll have a look around.

Up for sale is one of my babies. It's a 1999 BH model legacy estate. This is a fairly rare one. It was imported brand new into UK by Prodrive in. Banbury and registered brand new by them. Amongst the massive paperwork history is the original owners book with Prodrive shown as the first owner. It does mean that this has been supbjected to the British winter roads for 15 years and to be honest, it's not done too badly but has two small areas of rust. These are at the rear of the rear wheel arches. The worst one is in the picture below. It's not in holes, so is save able. That's the worst bit of news out of the way :) the only other issue is the rear bumper. Someone has ran into the rear bumper at low speed in the distant past. The bumper is fine but the paint on it has cracked due to the flex. After that, someone has fitted a towbar for protection. The good bits: I bought it with blown head gaskets. I have had the engine out, stripped, cleaned, rebuilt with skimmed heads and new head gaskets. Full service done at the same time and I've done almost 500 miles since, just to make sure everything is in order. The engine pulls very strongly and both turbos boost as normal which means 280bhp under your right foot ;) the car shows 150000 miles, but it's obviously been very well looked after through its life, and considering the above, it's good for many thousands of miles yet. The only modification on this car is a sensible one. 4 pot brakes and drilled and grooved disks. The gearbox dosnt have the usual gear stick slop either. It drives very nicely. Half leather interior, Pioneer single din stereo with USB input. (Works with Apple phones and pods too) Mot until January and tax for about 4 months These generally go for between £2200 and £2400. Simply due to the paintwork issues, I'm only after £1800. Here's the pictures. Any questions, please ask.

Sounds like a project to me :)

Why is the current engine not repairable? I can see the attraction of just buying an engine and dropping it in but you could get the same problem ( or worse) the following week.

I have heard mention of people using Nissan mafs due to them being cheaper. It's possible that's what has happened here. I don't know if they are two or three wire but it could explain it. From the other side of the problem, any oiled air filters are bad for subaru mafs. The particulates of oil in the air flow, gradually deteriorate the metal strip in the MAF. I don't think it's a case of corrosion. It's more a case that oil eventually fully coats it and reduces it's ability to measure the air flow. In your picture of the MAF plug, it clearly shows 3 wires. I can't see the middle one due to the wrapping. Is that wire the same colour as the broken one you found?

Cracking day today. Got lots done. :) The IC silicone hoses finally arrived so I could get on with the final fit of the pipe work. I first revisited the oil cooler mountings and in the end had to change the route of the cooler pipes as my original plan put them too close to the exhaust. So, oil cooler, front mount and radiated fitted. Then onto the IC pipe work. Between trial fitting and today, I had fitted a brake cylinder pitch stopper. Today it became apparent that I couldn't go that as it simply won't fit around the pipes. So out that came :( Anyway, here's the pipes fitted at last. With that fitted, I found the catch can bracket put the cans too close to the pipes, do a bracket adjustment was required and then, finally for today fitted the cans and pipe work And the air breather filters loosely fitted for now I failed to order the pipe for the recirc valve so could be a few days before I get that. Simply forgot about it :(

Cheap Turbo blankets ?
Tlag replied to savage bulldogs's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
Having thought about this, it sounds about right. For that reason, I think I will put heat wrap around the intercooler pipe that goes above it, rather than a turbo blanket. My IC setup has a temp sensor so I will run it without anything to start with and then wrap it to see what difference there is. -
Looking good for the weather too. Have a good one.

Cheap Turbo blankets ?
Tlag replied to savage bulldogs's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
I' m glad I just read this thread. I hadnt given the FMIC pipework a thought as it passes over the turbo. Something else to add to the list. Just came across this; looks the exact same thing but cheaper. from the same part of the UK too. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-TURBO-BLANKET-HEAT-SHIELD-COVER-T3-TURBOS-Z0929-/230925609599?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35c43d2a7f -
As above. You cant just bolt a turbo on a NA car, you would need a turbo engine to start with, plus a lot of supporting ancilleries, wiring, ecu, etc. Financially its just not worth it. Plus, you would pay more insurance on that than you would on a standard turbo car.

Ok, confession time :) The brackets for the catch cans are made of a piece of very thick angle iron with pre drilled holes in, a bit like the stuff you can make racking from but really thick. I'm using the same stuff to make the IC brackets and much thinner stuff for the FPR. Once it's cut to suit and painted, it works quite well.

A few more hours spent today. It's getting closer:) No pics today as it looks much like it did before today started. Fitted the exhaust today so the underside is almost done. Just for the anti lift kit and 'H' brace to put on. Made new brackets for the catch cans and FPR as I wasn't happy with the first ones. I then finished the fuel pipe system. Thin vacuum pipe arrived so I fitted the solenoid box with the 3 port solenoid. Whilst in that area, I also fitted the brake master cylinder pitch stopped. I have a parcel at the post office that I can't collect until tomorrow, so I'm hoping that's the IC silicone pipes so I can install those tomorrow. I'm not happy with the position of the oil cooler so that's to be looked at tomorrow as well. Once that's done, I can finish wiring the gauge loom up, refit the rad, oil and coolant and............. :)

Is that what you have? A grim speed boost controller/regulated? I've never had or fiddled with a controller before. I've always thought of them as the quickest way to a new turbo or engine possible. I'm open to be educated and I'm sure if set up by a mapper or experienced tuner it should be fine. If you are just asking about them, I apologise for the above. ;)

Really sad news. He was a comic genius. :(

Hi and welcome. What you have is a GTB limited. It's not a limited edition but some of the kit on it was only available on that particular car. What makes it different to a standard GTB is: Front bumper with the extra large fogs. (Don't break the bumper, they are getting very hard to find) The interior plastic trim is like a dark wood finish as oppose to just grey plastic in the normal car, Half wood steering wheel and matching wooden gear knob. (Most don't have these any more as most have been changed for different ones. Mine didn't have the gear knob when it came in from Japan.) Other than that, they are standard GTB at 280bhp for the manual or 260bhp for the auto. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of yours. Mines the one in my avatar and if you see my thread in the project/conversion section, you'll see more pictures. :)

Having driven the Ring but not the TT, it's hard to say. However, I would say the TT is the harder as it's narrower with no run offs. Although, because it's narrower, you wouldn't get so many trying to overtake.

5yrs or 60k is what I recommend. It's not a difficult job but it is fiddly because of where it is and the angles you are looking at the marks.
