  1. That's a great looking spoiler on that model. Just the right size. The modding has begun. It's a slippery slope from here :)
  2. If you can get to the joint where the steering column joins the rack, you will find a single bolt. Have a look to see if it's still tight.
  3. All the JDM cars that I have seen have a little box wired in behind the gauge cluster. From memory, it's only two wires, one+ and one -. I have no idea how it works but it makes your speedo work in mph and not kph and it de limits the speed. In Japan they are limited to whatever 112mph works out to be in kph . The units about £15 last time I looked. Although I've just done a very quick ebay search and can't find any. My current car dosnt have one and still shows in kph. It's never been a bother at mot time.
  4. Most cars can mapped. It just varies on what is required. It's true that most Subarus tend to get mapped for performance but you can also get cars mapped for economy or a different fuel octane. It's a lot of money just to be able to use different fuel though.
  5. Welcome, Good advice on the servicing. Make sure you use good quality oil as well. Don't scrimp on the oil or it will bite you later on. And, yes, Subarus are very addictive. :)
  6. It's very difficult to diagnose it from what you have said. It could easily be a bush somewhere. The ones that seem to go first are the drop links. However, that's just a guess. Can you narrow it down: front/back, which side, etc. there are numerous things it could be.
  7. The only ones that I can think of in that area and in white are the power steering pump ones.
  8. Welcome. Nice car and a nice photograph. Do I detect use of HDR? :)
  9. I think they will learn to a certain extent. I think they will happily cope with higher octane fuel on the odd occasion but the benefits gained from that fuel will only be the cleaning benefits as it runs through the system. The car may also become smoother but I doubt you will see any performance benefits. At the end of the day, whether the car is an STI or a Justy, if they are UK cars, they are set up at the factory to run best on 95. JDM cars are a different matter entirely. In Japan, the cheap fuel is 101/102 octane so that's what the cars are set up for.
  10. I'm not entirely sure that running 99 octane fuel permanently is good for a car that's opitomised for running on 95. I can see the benefits of the higher octane but without a remap, I think I would only use it every other tank at the most.
  11. As it's a UK car, it's set up for 95 octane fuel so I would stick to that. Therefore, my choice would be the filter. If you want to go for higher octane fuel, it will probably need mapping, which would actually bring the best out of the car
  12. I've not heard of too many of the newer 2.5,s going wrong, if any. I doubt the fuel consumption is any different to a normal 2.5 model, unless you really give it the beans for a good while. I can't see any reason why servicing schedule would be any different either. What may be an issue, is if it does go wrong. With so few of the cosworth being built, you may suffer for getting bits, if you need any. Sorry, can't be more help.
  13. A head skim is essential or the work will need to be done again in a few months. API and MD will know that though.
  14. Hi and welcome.
  15. All the engines I've stripped and rebuilt, I have never seen a gasket yet, other than a very old 2.2 n/a.
  16. That's really sad :(
  17. I can't believe you have driven without front pads for 2 weeks! That's just unbelievably dangerous for you, your passengers and everyone else on the road. I could rant on here but I won't bother. I'm guessing what you have done is seized a hub due to heat. The amount of energy going through the caliper pistons onto the the disk would cause massive heat, even for short distances. That heat would directly transfer through all the components, so I'm guessing you have seized a hub. The disks will also need renewing. They will be warped and scored all over the place.
  18. No diff should make a clunk at all. It could be the mounting bushes that are worn, or it could be worn internals.

    Driving video

Like the sound of them, but the video is very uninspiring. Not sure I like the lyrics on the screen either. Its as if they accept that folk wont actually hear the lyrics (which are easily heard).
  20. Thats why I said to take it out. Glad you found it. :)
  21. Lol, i was a bit ambitious with 16 digits :)
  22. The gearbox code sticker is just above the starter motor not he bell housing. From memory, the code is about 16 digits long.
  23. Hi, and welcome. Chances are, people haven't replied about the diff because they don't normally go wrong, so folk normally don't touch them
  24. First thing to check is the main fusible link. It is in the relay/fuse box near the battery. When you have the lid off, it should be the first item nearest the front of the car. It looks just like a piece of wire in a loop. (In fact, that's what it is). Don't, just look at it though, take it out. They have a habit of looking fine but have actually burned through near one of the spade connectors
