Upgrade to DCCD Widetrack model or bigger turbo?
mfnick replied to mfnick's topic in General Subaru Chat
Cheers mate :). Yea shame you can't pal, would have been great for you. Went and looked at that other one earlier, bit poor to be honest and seller didn't know much at all about them, I knew more than him. Had the boot leak problem, I actually sorted that while there, was just missing a grommet. But it's obviously been like that for ages, had rusted up under the spare wheel - only surface rust but still needs sorting. And the side skirt had cracked and was rusting underneath- had obviously been caught. Brake discs need replacing too. I pointed all this out to him yet he wouldn't budge on price... In fact he was on about changing the exhaust and getting a generic map put on it to try and get a bit more for it. One to avoid. -
Upgrade to DCCD Widetrack model or bigger turbo?

You're right, I'd regret buying that 450bhp one too. May have DCCD but won't get the full benefit and experience the bigger change without the wider track too. I went and looked at the JDM one yesterday. May have agreed to buy it... Haha! It's got a knock coming from somewhere at rear so he's sorting that and converting the speedo to MPH for me then I'll be collecting :D . Fair play to the guy he was the one who heard and pointed out the knock too. Was actually a top notch bloke. I didn't even go and look at that other UK one after driving it, totally different beast to the UK model in how it drives. Now I need a JDM one haha! Makes the extra money I'm putting in more worthwhile too since it's a far bigger change to just swapping for a UK widetrack. only 1 significant problem. No burble 😭 . Well, it's still there very slightly and hopefully a different exhaust will make it more pronounced.... May have to convert to a single scroll one day if I can't get it to sound any better... Has a awesome top end scream though with the twinscroll. Im still looking just in case a better one turns up while he's sorting it, going to view another today actually. But think that's the one I'm getting :). -

Right, thanks for the input guys but I've decided to go ahead with this! I could keep spending money on mine but the way I see, no matter how much I spend on it, I'm always going to keep looking longingly at the DCCD models so I'll never be satisfied. I'd be better getting one and then saving up and modding one of those instead. A different conundrum has appeared since making this decision. Which to go for. Ive found a WRX that's been fully converted to a STi with DCCD, forged and using a JDM block - https://www.gumtree.com/p/subaru/-subaru-impreza-wrx-sti-jdm-spec-dccd-fsh-450bhp-fully-forged-anti-lag-vi-pec-ecu-/1155391947 been speaking to the owner and he says AI Motorsport in Ireland did the work. Anyone heard of them? He's got the paperwork for the works too. And at that spec I don't need to do anything :). But it could be a lemon and not sure about STi converted ones, prefer the factory ones. Plus it's not widetrack, but as I've said I'm mostly interested in the DCCD. Next up, a JDM one - http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/subaru/impreza-sti/-for-sale-high-grade--impreza-wrx-sti-twinscroll-widetrack-jdm-dccd/4300715?v=b better in just about every way to ours. I could PX mine here too instead of messing about selling privately. But am I right in thinking it won't have the burble since it has equal headers? I can't have a Scoob without the burble! But this could be easily sorted when I start modding it by fitting unequal headers correct? Or is the entire exhaust setup different with the twinscroll? Also will need a lot spending on it to get it near the performance of mine. Lastly - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201603011545591?postcode=s62ba&price-to=11000&sort=atcustom&quicksearch=true&radius=80&page=5&price-from=5000&make=subaru&onesearchad=used&model=impreza&search-target=usedcars&logcode=p got to say I'm most drawn to this one. Proper UK STi on the reg I want. Has the most info in the ad, seems to be owned by a enthusiast. Lightly modded already so not a huge amount to do. Looks good. What do you guys think? -
Upgrade to DCCD Widetrack model or bigger turbo?

@savage - not yet mate. Looking at getting a couple lined up, but not exactly going to be able to drive one to its full potential on a rest drive really. I wouldn't let anyone else drive mine like thy to be honest. I'm also looking into classic Type RA's so going to line some of those up too. Reckon that'll be the bigger difference. Just worried about rot on those. I've also got my suspension altered to point where the back end comes out a lot easier and quicker bit it's still not as progressive, adjustable and controllable as it seems in a DCCD equipped one where the power sent to wheels is altered to suit. -

No way I could afford a spec C lol. Plus I haven't got a drive or garage to keep it in which would be essential for that. They're only about 275 standard if I remember rightly. Or 305 with PPP. @david1972 only thinking of getting rid for a newer, younger model ;). With adjustable power train. After about £7k if you're interested... :) -

I'm not so sure, a mate of mine who had one could quite easily drift his on roundabouts (not that I'll be doing that, honest officer) and just get the back end to play about a lot more freely and controllably than in a standard. And he's nowhere near being a driving God lol -

Hey up mate, how you been? Had a very !Removed! few months, long story will explain when I next see you Probably, but in a year or so I could have a 400 Widetrack. Which would be even better . Plus the power game is usually a losing one, give it a few months and I'll be used to it and chasing 450 lol. Do really want the Widetrack to be honest, but it comes down to how much the DCCD and widetrack adds to the actual driving experience. Might be negligible and not worth it, especially after all the whiteline bits I bought for mine. In which case, turbo it is... -
As per the title basically. After opinion and some advice. Has anyone owned both a normal blob STi and a Widetrack one? Do you think the differences are worth the £2-3k it'll cost me to change my pre-Widetrack model for? I'm well happy with mine and spent a fortune getting her to where she is but Im always looking longingly at the Widetrack ones... But for about the same price/bit less I could also upgrade my turbo for even more poooowwwweeeerrr. What do we reckon chaps?

Count me in mate :)

Been looking at getting one of those too. Yesterday i went to Carnetix to get my suspension setup done and made a new friend. Getting setup Good God! What a difference all this has made. It was well set up to start with but now its unreal. Due to to me getting quite a extreme fast road setup with it being a weekend fun car 90% of the time, the slow speed steering and feel is a bit weird with me almost going a bit wide sometimes since im not putting enough turn on compared to what it required before. Which is taking some getting used to. But, when at speed it just drags you round corners in a way ive never felt before! Its hard to describe, just spooky how it sticks itself in and around corners now.Like i say, it is like being dragged around them. Its ace! Also due to my new droplinks and ARB ive got a lot more mid corner adjust-ability. Now a lot easier to make the rear move about a bit which kills any and all understeer. Feels awesome too :D The guys and gals at Carnetix were ace too. Did a brilliant job, can tell theyre very knowledgeable and take a lot of pride in their work. Highly recommend them. Also had this parked outside which was interesting to look around even if it isnt a Scoob.

Are you on a PC mate? If so just copy the files from your gopro/SD card to your PC & use Windows movie maker instead. It's what I've started using, lot easier and quicker.

Got all my Whiteline goods installed yesterday! Anti-lift kit, front adjustable links and bushes, rear adjustable ARB, links and biushes. Not given her a proper run as im getting alignment and Geo setup at Carnetix on Friday. But turns in a LOT sharper now and just feels better through the wheel. Loving it :) . Cant wait until friday when its been properly set up. Going to be a beast!! Big shout out to Martin once again for an excellent job. Some bolts looked like right !Removed! to get out, especially on the strengthening brace and ARB bush brackets. Managed them all without any shearing or snapping though with lots of patience, skill and grease :)
