What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Had the opportunity to take the scoob for a drive, only to find out it had a flat battery [emoji35] The Drive Wasn't as much fun in the 1300 cdti workhorse [emoji53] Anybody recommend a battery from the likes of europarts ? so I can pick one up tomorrow on the way home

a few pics of my project so far
I decided against high power silver cos if the mrs curbs them again they'll be impossible to touch up but i didn't want just gloss black so settled on polar black instead They look gloss black untill the sun hits them then you can see the flecks of blue, green, red ,gold and silver metalic ,my phone camera doesn't pic it up too well but you can see it a bit Finally changed the one odd green tint uk door glass for the jdm black tinted glass and have now finished with the uk shell so it will be scrapped fairly soon

I think most use 5w 30 Newage and 10w 40 for classics but as you well know it's a big can of worms cos there's loads of opinions on grades . I've always used fully synth in the scoob ,well apart from the mineral millers for the running in period I tried some fuchs pro r fully synth 10w60 in mine last year . It seemed noisier on start up , warmed up quicker (probably due to excessive friction) and raised the warm oil pressure by nearly bar .so i Took it out and went back to the slightly more expensive millers nano drive 10w60 and it's much better ,apparently it's actually more like a 10w50 in thickness it just clings to everything better so it's graded higher I'd stick to whatever grade that your cars used to if you don't have any issues bud . Why are you looking at switching expansion bottle types rick ?

Finally switched the o/s rear green tint uk door glass for the black jdm tint glass in the old rear door on the uk shell . Been putting the job off due to not having a battery on the uk shell ,which meant I had to remove the motor and runners from the old door . Glad it's done now though [emoji4] cos having one green window on the scoob was starting to get on my titts [emoji1] Then gave it a wax this afternoon while the mrs cleaned the interior [emoji15] dunno what she's after [emoji4]

Coolant bottle
only pic I've got that shows the expansion bottle position on classics You can just see it in front of the battery I can get a better pic a bit later if you want ? maybe if a foz's rad goes some people have been fitting the impreza rad and expansion bottle as they're easier to source or subaru might have changed something on different years that run a different phase inlet set up

Rick i have two small bore pipes from the header tank one goes to the rad itself the other goes to a thin metal pipe that runs right across the rad to the plastic expansion bottle near the battery. Turbo I can't remember the exact clearance as i built it nearly 2 yrs ago but I spoke to the tech guy at advanceautomotive (where I bought the pistons from) and explained I wanted to run 550 hp max (600hp limit on my crank) and he told me what to get the bores machined to and what to gap the rings at . They're quite noisy when cold and quieten down to a light "tappet" noise when warm (70°oil temp).tbh as I don't intend to break the 500 barrier anymore (350 hp in a 1220 kg car is more than fast enough for the road) so I wish I'd bought the slightly cheaper lesser hp version mahles ,as they're allowed to run tighter clearances . Don't get me wrong my engines done 8k @ 330 + hp now and doesn't use a drop of oil or coolant . It's actually at it's quietest when being spanked on the dyno with 100° oil temp but I did buy "race" pistons so I suppose thats to be expected. As for oil grade I ran it in with millers 10w40 running in oil changed at 250 miles , 600 miles then 10 w40 fully synthetic millers in at 1k and had it mapped. Best oil I've found to keep the pistons quieter but the oil pressure right for the crank ect is the millers nano drive 10w60 . Hope that helps fellas

learn to map
Thought esl was open source software (no licence to use it ) have you tried to search for a free software download or device driver . Maybe email the company you bought the lead off and ask for some info on connectivity

Maybe having to say bye-bye
Sorry to hear that your circumstances have changed steve ,Haven't you got any kids you can sell instead What about adding a tracker or a limited milage policy to bring the premium down a bit. Maybe even sell the jdm sti and get a cheaper uk version . Best of luck whatever the outcome bud

Clive's classic clearout
Shappens (crap happens ) not your fault for sure fella. Yeah I gaffa taped jiffy bags to the lenses , wrapped them in bubble wrap reinforced the box with cardboard and more gaffa tape ,stuffed the box with paper and bubble wrap ....... And they still broke it [emoji15] I've downloaded the after pics and I'll pop to the post office see what the "CRACK" is [emoji51]

cambelt and water pump
The rcm oil pump I'm running is just a standard subaru one with uprated prv fitted by rcm . as I didn't want to increase oil pressure with a larger pump ,just have piece of mind that it's less likely to fail . I probably could have fitted a uprated prv myself but the rcm one was brand new and only cost £100 . As someone was selling their build parts due to a change in direction with their build

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Weight probably has a bit to do with it as Classics sti's are about 600kg lighter than newage sti's and I'd assume that the outback is a bit heavier still I'm Sure it still shocks a few people how well it pulls with 245 hp , especially on the carriage way with no lag and a rolling start [emoji4]
-
cambelt and water pump
I've never bought from them my self just heard good feedback of them so couldn't comment from personal experience . Most people I know use cosworth or rcm if looking to upgrade their oil pumps but that doesn't mean they're no good

cambelt and water pump
Here's a link to their site and the kits they do http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts?page=1&cat=96⊂=183&sec=349&var=25&dc=0&gen=&searchKey=&searchPart= You're better off phoning them and speaking to luke (if possible) he's very helpful and sometimes give a discount for buying a few bits at once

Evening all.
Looks like a tidy example [emoji106] Any plans other than the bodywork refresh ?

cambelt and water pump
Grahame goode is a reputable company but it doesn't mention whether the idlers and tensioner are oe subaru . Have you had a look at icp belt kits ? As they're about the cheapest prices for new subaru stuff . As for my personal preferance i went for the gates kevlar belt and the rcm modified oil pump which is the same size with a uprated pressure relase valve . What did the rac man have to say ,Has the head gasket gone then bud ?

Tyres - where on car?
I've just fitted 2 new firestone firehawks on the front and the best of the ying sing ditch finders on the rear . As I'd sooner loose traction at the back and still be able to point it in the right direction by having good traction at the front [emoji6] Once the rears are worn I'll switch the firestones to the back and fit new ones on the front

Evening all.

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
Had a couple of bikers egging me on down some b roads I just kept to the speed limit but lost them on the twistys due to not braking . Eventually came to a round about leading to the carriage way with both bikes beside me giving me the thumbs up [emoji41] as we pulled away one of them went like a missile the other sat next to me by the time I changed out of 3rd on the slip lane he was a good 2 car lengths behind . Next exit was a shell garage so I pulled in to v power up (shortly followed by the other bike) and the 1000cc kawasaki was sitting they're filling up as well . Got chatting with them and asked why the other bike didn't overtake as well ? Mines only a 600cc and I couldn't catch you cos that old scoob of yours is fooking fast [emoji4]
