  1. Lovely clean looking classic you've got there ;-) I was totally unaware of the modification laws over there . Do the laws only apply to road going cars ? If so I bet you have a big track day scene in Italy full of modded non mot'd motors :-)
  2. You're welcome bud Don't mean to keep advertising traders on here lol , but I think this bloke on scooby net local to you http://bbs.scoobynet.com/full-cars-breaking-for-spares-438/984891-1996-subaru-impreza-sti-v3-406-silver-breaking.html I know the car in the link has head gasket failure but , He breaks scoobs and might be able to help ;-) drop him a pm All the best Clive
  3. I'd have gladly give you a hand fella , if you'd been about 600 mls closer and I wasn't about to do a gearbox change on mine .Don't mean to rub salt in the wounds, iv also got a spare engine but, it's only fit for scrap now due to me selling the cam covers ,sump and inlet then leaving it uncovered in the garden . I'd have a look on scabby net and buy one off a trader on there (at least you'd be able to kick up a fuss if it went pop). Whereas if you get yours repaired to cheap (no machining or new timing belt as tlag said) it might go pop anyways . Dunno what year yours is but ,v1 to v4 long engines are compatible (due to the inline inlet stud pattern) you'd just have to fit your inlet, fuel lines and water crossover pipe if it wasn't the exact version as yours . I've had my engine in and out twice in a day (everything had been off before though) but ,I still wouldn't wannabe be making a habit of that lol I'd pushed the crankshaft oil seal in to far (which makes them leak) so had to remove the engine replace and reposition seal and refit the engine again . Which ever option you choose best of luck bud and I'll help you out with pics and advice if needs be
  4. Have you checked the oil level and that the oils the correct grade
  5. I'd put another turbo engine in ,fitting the non turbo imo would be a pita due to ecu and loom differences. Iv only ever removed a scooby engine a few times and can now remove one in 2.5 hrs . Is your wrx a early one ? Because it might have a closed deck block ,which can be identified by # marks near the oil pressure sender. if so (just the block halves) sell for £300 + so you might recoup some money with the old engine afterwards . If you don't fancy removing the engine yourself try asking for a quote on a engine swap instead , as it should be cheaper due to less labour and no machining costs
  6. The only trader I use a lot is luke at import car parts for all my gaskets and oe/ group n rally parts drop him a email he might be interested in advertising . Although I don't know if the club would get a discount as he price matches most other companies prices anyways . Will admit I was a bit surprised my 5 speed spat it's dummy out as I didn't think I was running enough power to break it , especially at 3/4 throttle in mid rev range. Mabey I could sue simon @jgm for his monster mapping malarkey lol I just wanna get the 6 speed fitted and on the rollers now as surely with a sti tmic , sports cat and tdo5 I shouldn't be near box braking bhp ?
  7. thanks for the help and effort but ive sourced one now ;) as for dccd 6 speeds theres 2 for sale on scabby net for £1600 each , I paid a bit less for my non dccd 6 speed and got few things extra B)
  8. well I've bought this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMPREZA-2004-STI-TYPE-UK-6-SPEED-GEAR-BOX-3-54-RATIO-TY856WN4CA-/161113287294?nma=true&si=HZi0X%252FbHncHkk5s0VXZMX4eH%252Bsg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 gave him a extra £100 (a total of £1395 delivered) and he chucked In the 6 speed driveshafts, flywheel, exedy pink box clutch kit, and starter motor as well as the listed bits of 6 speed box, cradle, ppp shifter, and prop now just gotta find the time to fit it before the rolling road day at the end of october
  9. Just had a squint on the cobra site but they've gone up £100 in price over the past 2years http://www.cobrasport.com/exhaust/Subaru/Impreza+Turbo+WRX+and+STI++%2894-00%29/31/0/0 Could try japspeed http://www.japspeed.co.uk/Subaru-Impreza-GC8/Subaru-Impreza-GC8/Subaru-Impreza-Classic-High-Flow-Sports-CAT/p-23-1-403/ Haven't bought any zorst bits of them but seems cheap and sure looks shiny lol
  10. It was the next mod on the (never ending) list anyways ,but I haven't got the funds together for bigger brakes to fit the 6 speed 180 rear hubs/diff . There's a way to retain my uk160 rear diff/hubs as I fitted a kit to my brvs v1sti (he hit 350 hp and ate two 5 speeds in 3 months) ,but im not 100% what type of prop was used in the kit . However I have found a few kits with boxes , cradle, props, and gearsticks under £1500 and iv got the £'s for those so I hope to fit it in a couple of wknds time . Fmic and induction for x mas it is then lol
  11. cheers gambit, nice find ill bear that in mind :) I wont have time to fit it until after next weekend so ill try to hold out for one a bit cheaper as my brv managed to pick one up for £1400 earlier in the year ;)
  12. weathers nice round here so I thought id take the (recently mapped) scoob for a drive today B) warmed her up droping the mrs and kids off in town and headed for the carriageway :D haven't got any power figures but I quess ( im either running closer to 350 than I thought or) the uk 5 speed was weaker than most cos as soon as I hit 1.4 bar in 3rd gear I lost all power and gained a nasty noise limped the car home without 3rd gear well im sure ive still got 3rd but its rattling round in the bottom of the box with the shockproof oil now at least silver lining is now the hunt for a 6 speed begins ;)
  13. I had a cobra sports cat(fairly good quality) think I paid about £250 for it new and only upgraded due to fitting a full 5zigen system . if your gonna fit it yourself grab yourself a turbo outlet gasket, downpipe to cat back 'o' ring and maybe new cat back bolts/springs (if they don't come with the new cat as a kit). "import car parts" is probably the cheapest place to get your gaskets
  14. hi im after non dccd 6 speed set up, box ,cradle, prop, gearstick, and matching diff so I can convert my 97 uk turbo . thanks for looking clive
  15. I went for the esl option on my v3 uk turbo and now running duel mafless maps .I chose the esl due to it working out cheaper once supplied fitted and mapped (£550 in total ) but also because it retains the factory's knock system and allowed me to remove the (prone to fail ) maff . Id suggest droping simon @ jolly green monster a email and discuss your options as he's a moblie mapper and will come to you once you've made a decision .
  16. I bought my exedy pink box anti judder from mark @ lateral performance for about £260 inc delivery ,if you do stick with the standard flywheel make sure its got a 100% true surface (preferably get it skimmed) . otherwise no mater what clutch you fit you'll probably end up with judder due to the uneven surface. im happy with the oe pedal feel of the pink box and their rated to 400hp so more room for future mods .
  17. 420 makes for a very rapid classic methinks nice choice fella what gearbox and clutch are you running ? as their the next things on my upgrade list im looking for a clutch that's good for road use, handle 550 hp,but wont break the bank (or the wifes leg lol)
  18. they look the same as the v1 heads I recently refurbished, same early style cam cap bolts and (as said above) only the v1 /v2 cam covers have "4 cam 16 valve" on them . you could take one of the cams out and remove the hydraulic lifter out from under the cam lobe to check if it has removable shims (that sit on top of the valves) as far as im aware only v3 and v4 sti heads have these .all other versions have un removable shims attached to the underside of the lifters
  19. Be careful not putting the retaining screw in your bung boys .As when I finally fitted the new engine in mine it was quite late so ,for the neighbours sake , I just pushed the bung in . Nice and quiet on idle but , I couldn't resist tickling the throttle which popped the bung out and smashed it through my fence panel which set the bulldog off waking up most of the neighbourhood anyways doh
  20. Nice clean looking RA Im assuming the roof flaps oe and the side skirts have been added . What power is she running ?
  21. Nice looking example fella ;-) As for the fuel leak it might be the fuel filler neck as their prone the rust on the uk models . I had to replace mine with a second hand one of a jdm classic , cos me £30 and took me about a hour to fit myself
  22. I've heard of tmic running close to 400 hp but (as miggs said) they do suffer from heat soak as their on top of the engine .you can make a few improvements to the tmic set up by fitting a sti , newage, or aftermarket one .Also fitting a air splitter (zerosport make one ) and a bigger under tray to increase air flow . I upgraded to a sti v3 (as my scoobs a v3 ) straight fit in about a hour as I was only running a tdo4 . Imo smaller turbo's struggle to fill the extra pipework and capacity of a fmic and therefore are only worth the hassle if you intend on aiming for over 300 hp
  23. Thanks for the offer but , to be honest I've got the 5 minimum runners so im in no panic to fill the spaces . Just thought I'd share the opportunity of cheap health check and power printout in case any of you boys were local . I only arranged it as simon (jgm) road mapped mine and I was curious as to what power she's making but the scooby city rr day got cancelled . A few local lads were looking forward to it to so rather than going on my own I thought make a day of it . Should be good variety of motors there v8 mustang , v8 s4, focus st , newage scoob , me and a 500 + hp classic .
  24. Hi I've organised a rolling road session in norwich as the one on my local forum (scooby city) got cancelled. there's 4 spaces left out of 10 .It's not a competition or a club event ,just a run on the rollers for a health check and power printout . It's £46 + vat and will only cost £40 +vat ,if I can fill the other 4 spaces . It's taking place at clive attowes on the 26th of October http://www.enginetuning.net/ And all marques of car are welcome and if you fancy it or need any further information let me know . Hope you don't mid me posting this here mods , as its not a club event Cheers Clive
  25. I been running 17 " with 215 45 kumos for the past 8k ,can't fault em as a medium priced/ compound tyre , as their soft enough to to be grippy but i haven't suffered from round about scrub (well not as much as the previous neros anyways ) Think I payed just under £400 for all 4 fitted . Camskill and black circles are worth a look if you're gonna buy some off the net
