this was my TOD (hack) mod when having a Sorento so i know a bit about how TOD works. i can (if i want to) mod the Forester TOD the same way what i might do one day ;) the only different is that with the mod the Forester will be front wheel drive only in green LED mode while the Sorento is then rear wheel drive only. http://youtu.be/-uABCiTjyoI

also in you owners manual you will find to how to disable the TOD system with a 10A fuse in the fuse box located in the engine compartment. you can use that to 'test' and if it makes a difference. please bear in mind that it's NOT advisable to drive long distance with this fuse in place!

also the AWD of the automatic is a TOD system (with a electro magnetic clutch between the front and the rear axle) and not the 50% - 50% diff as the manual AWD. to see if that's (TOD) being damaged make tight circles dead slow and check for noise and vibrations. TOD -> Torque On Demand (google / wikipedia is you friend)

changed power steering fluid this morning as the fluid was dark and pump makes noise again. easy enough 10 min job even in the cold. pump probably going to die any time soon.

that's very nice from your family as it will give you peace of mind for the basic things like housing etc while you can focus on the other things like finding jobs etc. we will be back in Australia around 2017 to visit family and friends in Adelaide, Orange and Sydney.

if you want to migrate to OZ bear in mind to bring lots of $ as it wouldn't be cheap. we paid for PR over $9k (for 2 persons) in NSW and that was we do it our selfs with the benefit SWMBO had a job in nursing hence she was fast-tracked by immigration. for the 457 visa we had to enter OZ even more... now we are back in the UK as she didn't like it at all while she had family in Sydney and Orange. i had a 2003 Forester and had to find any rust on her; none :) but anyway i could live there and miss OZ by times but now we have a house in Spain so a nice compromise ;) just go where your heart lies and go for it.
