  1. Was chuffed when I experienced that - been a biker for years and it is something the two wheeled fraternity do so having a group of car owners do the same is great
  2. There should be an aftermarket option and probably a HID main beam kit as well - check your manual, mine has a list of the bulbs fitted around the car which will save you pulling it apart to see. If your model is the same shape headlights as mine then yes you can check here for the installation of the HID option - credit Steve with posting this http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/index.php?/tutorials/article/10-how-to-install-xenon-hid-subaru-impreza-wrx-2007/
  3. Nice - sounds great, what engine is in the red one as it looks a lot smaller with the exhaust from a 1.4?
  4. done some asking around and no one I know has come across that - a couple of other types of gearbox failure but not that one
  5. Yup I would agree with that statement - dont think its a bad look but I dont think it is instantly distinguishable as a subaru. Compared to other hybrid designs I think it is an improvement over Prius etc. Bottom line ill wait for a decent hydrogen power vehicle as I believe this is the best way forward given the natural resource availability compared to hydrogen cell / battery alternatives
  6. Really good programmes - has made me think about my own car though and what they are describing should happen - will have to complete a bit more testing ;)
  7. Wow that is steep - fingers crossed its done the trick, would it be possible to mod you own gearbox to have the component removeable / serviceable?
  8. Had a tweaked 200sx which I really enjoyed from a rear wheel drive perspective so will see if the flexibility of the dccd settings generate the same sort of tail happy fun - looking for best of both worlds really but if the finances permitted I would consider the BRZ as a second car.
  9. reading about what these chaps are doing with the BRZ in the Feb issue of Jap Peformance car mag, getting some nice improvements http://www.litchfiel...performance.asp Also, as the cover story, it covers this wee beasty which certainly puts the look of the car into a completely different perspective More pics... http://www.forcegt.com/car-events/scion-tuner-challenge-custom-fr-s-gt-heading-to-2012-sema/
  10. hefty chortle I did see top gear but thought it was a little more tongue in cheek, top gear had said in the past all the pillocks were migrating from BMW 3 series to Audi's just done a You Tube search 'idiot audi driver' - there are a fair amount of results!
  11. Sounds like its exactly fit for your purposes - if your going offroad take a camera with you and post a video - it would be interesting to see just what type of angle hill the scooby can get up
  12. Yup you do need to have confidence in the brakes, the discs look to be in good condition on the front, some mild scoring on the rears - would like to try the floating discs I have seen but that will have to wait a bit until funds become available, the more ideas I get the longer the shopping list :P
  13. Ahh - think I may have been off the mark with my first post sorry - if you could say what model of Impreza you have got that may help confirm an explaination but I believe what you have (after a wider bit of reading) is a differential setting of high and low - this is an offroad 4x4 thing, common with lots of landrovers landcruisers etc. "Low-ratio gearbox. A gearbox suitable for normal driving is not ideal for tackling extreme conditions like steep hills or very soft ground when off-roading. Consequently off-road cars are often fitted with a second, lower-ratio gearbox which means better traction. Low ratio is normally engaged by a second lever next to the main gear lever and turns the wheels slower, reducing the risk of losing grip. An increasingly popular alternative to a low-ratio gearbox (which adds considerable weight), is to use electronics to minimise wheelspin. The Subaru Impreza hatch is unusual as it's a road car with a low-ratio gearbox. Toyota Land Cruiser, Mitsubishi Shogun and Jeep Grand Cherokee all use a low-ration gearbox." Parkers.co.uk. Low diff. is to help you to get out of sticky situations ie. if stuck in the mud or to climb very very steep slopes by having a very low first gear option as well as distributing power evenly to all wheels. the idea is to distribute torque evenly to all 4 wheels to achieve max grip on the road surface. On normal driving conditions for the so call AWD, the torque transmitted is either front or rear wheel bias. Only when the differential gears is activated, then the torque is spread evenly. Apparently it will deselect the Low Diff setting if / when you increase speed Hope this helps
  14. Hi Gambit - thanks for that, think pads at least are way to go initially. sorry I wasnt clear in my description, all calipers are STI branded Brembo's there is a small 'B' logo in the casting - it was the pads I meant - the chap I had it off had had a service and I believe that was done with an economical view as the mechanic very helpfully ditched the K&N panel filter for an unbranded substitute - he changed the front pads at the same time probably with the same approach
  15. Wotcha and welcome - I to am new to the Scooby world and let me tell you playing with that little knob brings big smiles :D the one thing I would say is whilst you are getting used to it dont change modes, particularly when bimbling along, with your foot on the throttle as even though you havent depressed the pedal any further the car will accelerate - I went from 'I' to 'Sport# coming off an island in preparation for some twisties ahead and had quite the surprise
  16. I believe it has never been changed so thats 27K - but just for clarity this is the internal carbon filter not one going to the engine
  17. Wotcha and welcome :) - why dont you take a trip to Revolution, they are in your part of the world, decent chaps on the phone. http://www.just-subaru.com/home-page-1-0.html Revolution House Clockmill Road Gateshead Tyne & Wear NE8 2QX
  18. Surprised just how dirty these get new vs old
  19. Hi all, right so I am new to the whole scooby experience and dont know what to expect with certain things being the norm or not. After two weeks Im still smiling wrt the engine performance but I am not particularly impressed with the brakes - there seems to be very little feel when initially applying the pedal and if you want to pull up sharpish you really have to stand on them. I thought initially it was stuck pistons (previous owner had it stood for a bit) so I had all the calipers off, gave a good clean, checked the pads for uneven wear and ensured all pistons came out when the pedal was pumped - all ok. There was no name on the front pads but there are brembo pads ftted to the rears. My next line of approach is to replace the pads with EBC red or yellow items (used green before and been happy with those) and or fit braided lines. Am I to expect any difference or do scoobies generally have a wooden feel and it is something I should adapt to? cheers J
  20. Wotcha and welcome - loving the white particularly under the bonnet a real contrast with the blue :)
  21. nice job - KITT - v funny but I think you are right novelty may soon wear off
