  1. Wotcha and welcome :) great car, looking forward to the photo's, the car should warm up in a short while, normally by the time I have driven a mile and a half down the road taking it easy the temp guage is at half way and that is where it stays, I tend to stay below 2500 revs whilst warming up just using the torque and changing up early but staying in a lower gear, normally 3rd / 4th so you are not straining the engine
  2. Wotcha and welcome :) is this any use?
  3. As above re bearings but also the heat from the engine and turbo can cause a cook off of the oil in the supply and retun pipes if it is just sat there, this cause a glazing in the pipes and as such cuts oil flow to and from the turbo which will cause the turbo to fail (lesson learnt 1998 with Nissan 200sx). A few years ago you warmed an engine before really driving it because you needed to get oil up to temperature and around the engine, a modern day F1 car has tolerances that close it is effectively siezed until warm water is pumped around it for 10 mins or so to enble starting it then it will idle for a short time to ensure fully warm. A world super bike will be started for 10 mins on idle then shut off for 15 minutes to allow latent heat to disperse through the engine then started again allowed to warm fully before then taken out. Modern fuel is manufactured to be as cost effective as possible - running it on your 95 ron std pump unleaded will make the car go but will not perform or be maintained to its opitmum, running super unleaded will give you the extra octane boost that the car is designed to run on and as such will have it running as efficiently as designed to be - but please note if you are looking for a fuel efficient solution neither the WRX or STI are where you should be looking 28 - 32 quoted in the press, my dash indicator has not seen above 19.5 although I have on occasion been wearing my diving boots when driving... Modern additives will give the octane boost and additional cleaning properties which modern 95 rons no longer have When people are saying allowed to warm you are only talking 5 mins sat idle or equivalent driving in a reserved fashion, the WRX STI is ready to play within a mile or so - it reaches half way up the temp guage in that time and maintains a steady stae from there on in..... so far ;)
  4. Yep that would certainly do the trick!!! :D
  5. Think that was one I looked at also - those RB's really hold their price and as such was above mine - lovely cars, really mean look to them
  6. Wotcha and welcome :) sounds interesting, do you have any photo's?
  7. Best approach - beware smiling is contagious
  8. Wotcha and welcome, :) A nice car you have your eye on, she whom must be obeyed wanted a hatchback otherwise I would own one of those myself. Both have a 2.5l turbo flat four engine with the subaru all wheel drive system. As standard the STI has more power, bigger brakes and a larger wheel hub which reduces the braking heat transfer to the wheel bearing avoiding risk of failure - this is predominatly only under track day or extended fast road use so dont worry if that doesnt apply to your style of driving. The STI has a bigger intercooler and switchable engine map which allows you dial in more power should you fancy a blast down the twisties also DCCD which allows some tweaking of the differential drive, great in the snow. The Prodive Pack - as I understand it this has varied slightly over the years dependant on the model sometimes including suspension changes - the basic changes are a hi flow fuel pump, stainless steel performance exhaust and an ECU remap sometimes a high flow air filter or Intercooler hose PPP WRX STI 2006 - 07 http://www.subarupar...e_Pack_SACC2612 PPP WRX 2006 - 07 http://www.subarupar...e_Pack_SACC2631
  9. that looks really tidy - hope it goes for what you want for it
  10. Yup much improved without the graphics, not sure spraying the intake black would work - I would go with all black or all silver for the bonnet
  11. Was chuffed when I experienced that - been a biker for years and it is something the two wheeled fraternity do so having a group of car owners do the same is great
  12. There should be an aftermarket option and probably a HID main beam kit as well - check your manual, mine has a list of the bulbs fitted around the car which will save you pulling it apart to see. If your model is the same shape headlights as mine then yes you can check here for the installation of the HID option - credit Steve with posting this http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/index.php?/tutorials/article/10-how-to-install-xenon-hid-subaru-impreza-wrx-2007/
  13. Nice - sounds great, what engine is in the red one as it looks a lot smaller with the exhaust from a 1.4?
  14. done some asking around and no one I know has come across that - a couple of other types of gearbox failure but not that one
  15. Yup I would agree with that statement - dont think its a bad look but I dont think it is instantly distinguishable as a subaru. Compared to other hybrid designs I think it is an improvement over Prius etc. Bottom line ill wait for a decent hydrogen power vehicle as I believe this is the best way forward given the natural resource availability compared to hydrogen cell / battery alternatives
  16. Really good programmes - has made me think about my own car though and what they are describing should happen - will have to complete a bit more testing ;)
  17. Wow that is steep - fingers crossed its done the trick, would it be possible to mod you own gearbox to have the component removeable / serviceable?
  18. Had a tweaked 200sx which I really enjoyed from a rear wheel drive perspective so will see if the flexibility of the dccd settings generate the same sort of tail happy fun - looking for best of both worlds really but if the finances permitted I would consider the BRZ as a second car.
  19. reading about what these chaps are doing with the BRZ in the Feb issue of Jap Peformance car mag, getting some nice improvements http://www.litchfiel...performance.asp Also, as the cover story, it covers this wee beasty which certainly puts the look of the car into a completely different perspective More pics... http://www.forcegt.com/car-events/scion-tuner-challenge-custom-fr-s-gt-heading-to-2012-sema/
  20. hefty chortle I did see top gear but thought it was a little more tongue in cheek, top gear had said in the past all the pillocks were migrating from BMW 3 series to Audi's just done a You Tube search 'idiot audi driver' - there are a fair amount of results!
  21. Sounds like its exactly fit for your purposes - if your going offroad take a camera with you and post a video - it would be interesting to see just what type of angle hill the scooby can get up
