  1. Not sure for the Spa fire as I never asked, but I have another friend who melted a piston doing a max-speed run on the Autobahn near the German / Belgium border and it cost him £550 to recover to Coventry. Although he had RAC European cover they would only recover him off the Autobahn to a local storage area as the value of his car (a 1996 JDM Legacy RS) was, in their words, too low to justify the cost of recovery. My argument was that the recover cost would be the same for his car as it would be for a brand new Ferrari, and that he had paid his membership fees so they should recover him regardless. It didn't wash!
  2. He was lucky in one sense as it was halfway up Eau-Rouge so the fire marshalls were not too far away, but it was a petrol fire and it took hold very quickly. Amazingly the engine was saved (EJ25 single turbo c. 450bhp) and has now been fitted in his replacement car.
  3. I know that feeling. In 2010 I was all set for a winter weekend at the Nurburgring and one of my turbos (twin-turbo remember) failed 3 days before we were due to leave. I was forced to take my everyday drive which was a BMW 330ci at the time. It was more than up to the job, but it didn't quite fit in with a Subaru meet! Mind you, could be worse... A friend of mine did Spa a few years ago and had a massive fire on track which gutted his car.
  4. Bronze / Gold will go nicely with black but it's not to everyone's taste. If you want to play it safe then go for silver as that works with any colour. Black or gunmetal on a black car may make the whole car look too dark, again it's down to taste. White may work but it will depend largely on the spoke design. Why not post a photo of your car with the wheels on an see if someone is able to Photoshop the wheels into a different colour to give you an idea of how they will look.
  5. I have been wanting to go to this for the last three years, yet every year something gets in my way. This year it's head gaskets!
  6. Probably not the best place to ask this question but seeing as money is on offer... Do all threads have a time limit on? I have been trying to find a post I was looking at the other day and it seems to have vanished.
  7. Thanks for the comments. The GT-B is starting to show signs of its age now so don't look too closely at that photo, but yes the twin-turbo gives great low-down pulling power and the short ratios of the DCCD box can surprise many a Porsche!
  8. I have four Legacys at the moment. The most interesting and loved by me are a 1996 BG5 GT-B (that's a twin-turbo for those who think Legacys are boring) which is quite heavily modified (a DCCD gearbox from a type-RA for example) and a 1999 2.0GL Classic AWD which I plan to restore back to being totally original. I also have a pair for Gen3 GXs, one is a BH9 in green and the other is a BE9 in white with the Lux pack. Both these cars are high-mileage work horses and get used all the time. Photos... The GT-B The GL near Spa-Francorchamps a few weeks ago. The white GX in Switzerland in November. Can't seem to find a photo of the green one at the moment, but it's a bit of a shed so you haven't missed anything!
  9. Hi, I have an EJ20 taken from a version-6 UK-spec Impreza Turbo 2000 in the garage. It was removed from a car that I was asked to scrap and I have been told the only thing wrong with it is the head gaskets have failed. The engine is complete, and was was planning to strip it down and use as possible spares, depending on the condition, but I have no objection to selling it whole if a half decent offer is made. I also have a 5-speed gearbox and matching diff that has come from a Hawkeye WRX that was in for a 6-speed conversion. The box has done 160,000 Kms but as the owner lives in mainland Europe this has mostly been long distance Autobahn cruising. I'm in Herefordshire, near the boarder with Worcestershire if you want to come and take a look and make me an offer! Adam.
