miles2102 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Looking at fitting a manual boost controller on my 94 wrx as a temporary measure to stop my overboost until I free up the funds to get the issue sorted properly. Hoping you guys can tell me best way of fitment. I understand this is not the answer to my issue of overboost but cannot afford to have it looked at the moment so just want to manage boost until I can resolve the overboost
Rick 2014 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I would start with checking for split hoses for air leaks I wouldn't get a manual boost controller to sort the issue out
miles2102 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 I know it's an ongoing battle with it, I've just replaced the engine and replaced and checked every hose 10 times over, nothing seems to be split. Would a faulty bov cause an issue with boost?
Rick 2014 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Yes faulty bov valves are very common.I had a bad fault on my forester bov valve I did away with it and all was fine after. How ever I would have though the bov valve would have stuggled to make boost if it was knackered not over boosting
miles2102 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Yeah your probably right with the bov, I'm struggling to justify spending money on parts I might not necessarily need hence fitting a boost controller to lower it a bit to stop fuel cut tell I can send it in to be looked at, I'm constantly watching the boost guage whilst feathering the throttle it's killing me not being able to drive it normally
Rick 2014 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Have you tried cleaning the soloneid out at all
miles2102 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Yep done that twice and tried a spare one but still no change
Rick 2014 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Have you looked at the boost restrictor pill to see if its blocked and cleaned the pipes out
Rick 2014 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Ive been replacing my old vac pipes with new gear a bit at a time and ive seen a marginal difference
miles2102 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 All the vac pipes are brand new but there was no restrictor pill? Take it that's gonna be my problem then
Rick 2014 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 All the vac pipes are brand new but there was no restrictor pill? Take it that's gonna be my problem then ;) try that
miles2102 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Any ideas of where is best to pick one up and what size is recommended or is it try and see what happens?
stants Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 A restrictor pill ? Your subaru dealer can sort you out relatively cheaply. I think there's three sizes.
savage bulldogs Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Sorry was going to reply on your other thread but couldn't find the info on restrictor pills and vacuum line positions I'd posted before . http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/topic/6050-more-boost-disappointmentslight-happiness/ Think your model is covered on there
miles2102 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Lovely cheers bud il have a crack at getting that sorted and let you know how I get on
savage bulldogs Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 No problem bud hopefully it will be something simple . Shame I didn't take any pics of the standard vac lines on my 94 sti [emoji53] As mine is now far from oe
miles2102 Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 It's just a pain trying to constantly monitor boost and feather the throttle, I can feel that it's quick but it's so annoying not being able to put your foot down! Il look at sorting the restrictor pill this week and hopefully sort the issue but out of curiosity where do the boost controllers fit, always wondered. Do they just sit between turbo and actuator and ditch the boost solenoid and vent pipe to induction
Rick 2014 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Did you replace the hoses your self?.Your problem now is if you don't have the restrictor pill is getting the right one for the car there is a few variants
miles2102 Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Right i had a little fiddle over the weekend at tried a 2mm restrictor and still have boost spike, on dual carriageway it was holding about 0.9bar but is still spiking when giving it the beans (hits about 1.1ish bar). So I dropped it to 1mm restrictor and it still spikes but doesn't hit fuel cut but it's only running about 0.7bar. So my next question is I could fit a 1.5mm restrictor but it's the actual immediate spike I get which causes the fuel cut when giving full throttle? Surely there must be a way of keeping a steady 0.9bar without it dropping off and also spiking above?
