hi all! I'm Martin, I've just put a deposit on a 2003 blob eye uk WRX, which I collect on 1st May. It seems really nice, standard condition right down to the exhaust, only mod I can see is a Bailey d/v. It's only done 60k, has a really tidy interior so I'm really excited as I've promised myself one for the last 6 years!

Actually found it when looking at a 55 plate blob in silver, but that had tacky mods, a !Removed! burn and a Battery flatter than a pancake!

Fortunately the missus found ours tucked up round the back, just in and it was love at 1st sight!

Any advice, insurance recommendations and things to do (will have a few bits-rude not to make the most of that flat four!) would be greatly received :-)

Welcome aboard, you'll love your new scooby, I'm with general accident regarding insurance, I have an 09 impreza wrxs ppp and pay £350 full comp for myself and the wife, we have both been driving for over 10 years with full no claims. But they are a pretty good insurance company.

Welcome along. Very friendly bunch on here we don't bite

insurance. Adrian Flux offers discounts to club members.

Keith Micheals Subaru specalists, lots of my local club owners use them including me.

Mods depends on what you want looks or performance.

I'd like to go along the lines of the PPP pack or similar. This will be my daily so it needs to be reliable and affordable to run as well as practical for the school run etc :-)

Pfff dude you could have bought mine.

Have a look at my for sale for minor upgrades to get most out of it. I'm over the moon with how the tweaks have improved drivability

I average 22.2 mpg out of my scooby, put an average of £110 a month of fuel in her, I also pay direct debit for road tax, this works out to £512 annually. insurance is around £31 per month so that's not too bad. An average of about £190 a month.

I only do 3 miles each way for work and i have a motorcycle for commuting and a pushbike so that's not a problem if i feel like it! Quotes have been reasonable so far for insurance....

I only work a few miles from work, that is the only downside of the scooby is how thirsty they are, I can actually see the needle move, terrible for short distance driving, best stick to other modes of transport, I tend to use my wife's car as it's a diesel.

Hi mate welcome to S.O.C

As said above really for insurance. :)

Our tax will be a bit cheaper than Inked because of the year and 2.5 ltr engine the tax man wanted more money the !Removed!  But feel free to share some pictures :)

As with the PPP it's ok and helps hold value on the cars but for less money you could do better with I'd say better parts so I wouldn't read to much into that :) Like I had a UK300 I'v changed it that much now I can't even call it a UK300 :D

Yeah tax is a stinger but direct debit isn't too harsh on the wallet, but do use the wife's diesel as it's much better on fuel, and quite alot torquier that the scooby.

Crazy thing is I'm 31 with a clean licence and been driving 14 years! Adrian flux were the ones who quoted £698. Will have to wait til Monday for Keith michaels. Adrian flux claim it's so high because it's the first year of ownership....

I was told the same, I was over 30, 9 years no claims. They said it was a big jump fr z 205 Gti 1.6 to a Scoob. Seems to be the norm to charge more in 1st year esp if you've never had a high powered turbo before.

Ask to speak to Gary Moulson at Keith Micheals he's their Scooby man.

So does it come down in subsequent years? I intend to make the car part of the family and semi-retire it when the missus starts driving so it can be my long term pride and joy!

That's odd, myself, I'm 32, clean licence, past test at 17, same for my wife, our other car is a diesel porsche panemera, both fully comp on that is £450 with same company, general accident. The scooby was from ssangyong in Wolverhampton, did everything for us, couldn't get a better service, went through all details. Never heard of any insurance higher for first year ownership.

I'm 27, driving ten years and 6yr ncb. Adrian flux quoted me 630. Keith Michaels quoted me 660. Both allowed my panel filter, exhaust and remap but Gary at Keith Michaels was a lot friendlier and Adrian flux didn't give me the best price first time so in a way tried to blag more money from me.

Its frustrating when you ask if that's the best they can do- only to get told ring back if you get a better quote!

Id give greenlight insurance a go too mate. They gave me the the lowest quote to date. They also specialise in modified cars so the more mods you have the more they like you for the right reasons. I'm with nfu at thr minute but thinkibg about changing at renewal. As the price only came down by £10 this year.

I said that to the women when I explained why I wasn't going with Adrian flux. All she did was apologise. I called flux first they quoted about 800, then called kieth Michaels and Gary gave me 660. Called back flux and asked why it was so different she said she'll speak to the underwriter where he dropped the price to 630. When I mentioned I was allowed my mods with Keith micheals she then had to go back to discuss it again. I just felt misled at the beginning and if they tried to sell me short now I can only imagine how I'd be treated in the event I needed to make a claim.

After all that I thought I'd try and get them competing. Gary was blunt but fair when he said he wouldn't give me a price if he knew he could then drop it. That's not his game were his words.

Let's hope Keith gets back to me then :-)

I don't mind paying more if it future proofs against planned mods
