seanaldo1987
Thought I'd finally post up in here some pics of my car...... Impreza WRX 300. Had her for 7weeks and loved every minute of it :) and still haven't modified or change bits yet ( although I have been compiling a list of bits I want to do :) Here's pics from the day I got her: And here's how she looks now: 2 days it took to de-sticker, remove the residue, polish and wax because of the constant rain showers we've had over the last couple of days. The paintwork has came up not too bad..... The stickers have obviously not been on the car too long....... Was worrying about what mess was gonna be left behind. All comments welcome.... Good or bad
Jay762
Very tidy - a more subtle approach to things ;)
Miggs
looks tidy mate, much better without the overkill stickers
seanaldo1987
The idea is to keep the car looking very OEM with some nice touches here and there. If and when i come to change the exhaust for something louder i think i'll be going for the hayward & scott system with a 3.5" rolled tip. The prodrive one is 3" just now and isn't "in your face" so i reckon the 3.5" tip will be fine for me. I'm not a big fan of the 5" cans that people fit..... i prefer a more subtle looking tip that still sounds as good.

seanaldo1987
true true.......... going back a few years ago now when i passed my test, i had a vw polo 1.4 with a cherry bomb exhaust fitted. that sounded ridiculous, looked ridiculous and used to set car alarms off all the time lol. can't believe i thought that was cool back then...... 8yrs ago
Miggs
i have a 4.5" rear tip, and the only can on the entire system is the back box itself, fully decatted and stainless from the turbo back, i love how mental it sounds at full chat, i do find that when on the motorway the endless drone can get a bit tiresome but i have a "dummy" as my neighbours call it, basically one of them rmoveable baffle inserts, it takes the exit to about and inch and a half, if i start the car in the early morning i tend to put the dummy in so as not to annoy the neighbours
seanaldo1987
on mine just now is the standard system apart from the 2nd cat delete and the backbox thats park of the ppp. i was thinking of changing the resonated centre section for a non resonated one, then fitting a decat downpipe and leaving the prodrive box in place. some folks on scottishscoobies.net have told me that i might find its not loud enough for me..... but i don't want it to be unbearably loud at motorway cruising speeds..... that would do my head in. reckon i'd have to get a removable baffle for the backbox to quieten things down for long journeys any bits of the exhaust i change will be for hayward & scott parts..... so if the system still isn't loud enough with the prodrive box left in place i can just remove it and fit the hayward & scott one :)
Miggs
it's amazing the difference the baffle makes, the neighbours next to where i park the car said they could feel the car through their furniture, i might add they are not attached to my house at all, yet when the dummy is in he doesn't even know the car is running, another neighbour 3 doors away has said he knows when i'm about to leave as he suddenly hears the car then i'm off, basically the dummy is in on warm up then i pull it out and set off lol

seanaldo1987
Got a few updates coming shortly...... its MOT time end of August and tax is due end of August too so its gonna be an expensive month :( I know the rear discs and pads will be needing done, they were an advisory last MOT and i know the pads are low. So i think i'm gonna take the oppourtunity to uprate and do the fronts & rears at the same time. Drilled and grooved discs all round with mintex fast road pads should surfice..... especially at £170 all in :) As far as i'm aware, the car shouldn't need much else if anything. The car is pretty solid with no creaks, knocks or bangs. Then it'll be 6months tax going on...... then i don't have to worry about TAX & MOT being due the same month again. seanaldo1987
Discs and pads to be ordered on friday :) On another note though...... exhaust has got a blow somewhere :( just so happens there is a guy going into the father-in-laws work to have a full stainless decat system removed from his bugeye as its too quiet for him :ambivalence: and hes upgrading to something else louder, probably a nur spec lol. think its either a japspeed or toyosports system..... its only a few months old and they can be bought new for pretty cheap so hoping i can get it for much cheapness if not free..... just need funds for getting the decat mapped in.
Miggs
You don't "need" to map it in if it's just for the sake of the sensor, all they do it remove the sensor reading from the program, it's cheaper to just buy a sensor spacer, if you having it mapped to benefit from the power, again not essential, you will see power gains just by fitting the exhaust, if it's been mapped already you'll gain a couple of ponies at best from the map, if it's not yet been mapped and you were wanting it mapped anyway then by all means go for it
Gambit
Nice sounds like it could be a good buy.
seanaldo1987
You don't "need" to map it in if it's just for the sake of the sensor, all they do it remove the sensor reading from the program, it's cheaper to just buy a sensor spacer, if you having it mapped to benefit from the power, again not essential, you will see power gains just by fitting the exhaust, if it's been mapped already you'll gain a couple of ponies at best from the map, if it's not yet been mapped and you were wanting it mapped anyway then by all means go for it I've been told you can get away with that on the classics, but to do that on the newage is asking for problems..... to get the full benefit of the decat and stop the dreaded overboost that will kill the turbo, plus eliminate any chances of the engine running lean i'm having the car mapped. The car has the prodrive ecu at the minute and running approx. 260bhp. After fitting a new fuel pump and mapping i should be up to 280-290bhp and thats as far as i can go with the TD04 turbo. Nice sounds like it could be a good buy. i'm hoping so..... the guy should be heading in to the father in laws work today.
Miggs
fair do's, i'm not going to argue because that does sound plausible and i'm not 100% it's for all scooby's, i just assumed all the ej20 equipped cars would be the same, i suppose with the later cars the ecu's will have had the benefit of tried and tested things with classics for all the years mines a classic and it benefits from a 3.5" straight through system from turbo back there is onlt the back box to restrict and even that's straight through which is then there the boost controller turned up a tad, an HKS fuel cut defender to stop the standard ecu from killing fuel supply at full boost and it boosts at over 1.3bar, not sure how much over as the gauge stops at 1.3 due to it being a version 3 i can't just slap a map in there, i need either a piggy back ecu or standalone management, something i didn't know until i bought it :( you could while having it mapped get the MAF taken out so theres no future issues with it going !Removed! up do you have a mapper in mind to do it for you? http://www.teamcarr.net/ i have heard nothing but praise for this man, he does live mapping to suit the driver to not just a generic map
seanaldo1987
Don't worry about it mate.... I'm still a novice when it comes to subarus.... I rely on my father in law who is a subaru specialist an my mate at GI Motorsport who remaps them. It'll be my mate that does the remapping..... If I could justify the £500 and 11weeks waiting list I'd have Andy Forrest remapping it. He is a legend when it comes to subarus. I'm sure he has the fastest street legal impreza in the country that does the 1/4 mile in 8.2secs lol. With the classics it's a bit more expensive as you need to change the ecu or piggy back as you say. With the newage, it has a lot more electronics involved. Time will tell when I get the car down to my mate if this exhaust fits the bill. He told me that even without decatting e can still find another 15bhp on top of what the prodrive ecu does, so there is room for improvement. The td04 maxes out at 280-290bhp. If you want more power you need to change the turbo
Miggs
right, i'll try this again, i was half way through typing a reply and the laptop crashed yeh Andy Carr and Andy Forrest both have the same reputation and along with it the waiting list too the TD04 info is exeactly what i have been informed too and the TD05 is not much more dependant on how far you wanted to take it, my mates got a bug that's running a hybrid turbo, can't remember what exactly it's got but he's up to 418bhp so far and wants 500, trouble is he's busted one gearbox already and has fitted 2 brand new exedy clutches and fried them both, that's with progressive power mapped in rather than full on boost at launce, he's now fitting a HKS tripple plate clutch (£1500) and a 6 speed gearbox that's costing more than my cars worth lol it's all food for thought if your wanting mega power it comes with mega money lol
seanaldo1987
How the rear looks now: Backbox sits at a nice angle..... and sounds awesome. The father-in-law did comment on how clean the car is underneath.... even the gearbox still has the original wax oil coating from new. No CEL as of yet........ hopefully it stays like that. I know when i done the decat on my Leon Cupra R it took nearly 60miles for it to register a fault code, so keeping my eye on things. Got the chance of a cheap walbro 255 pump... just depends on how cheap, as you can buy them for relative cheapness new. Just waiting on my discs n pads arriving now, then its MOT time.
