Scoobydoobydan Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Just a quick one, My Classic STI failed an MOT on emissions, as the tested told me my Subaru needed a centre cat? I went to a Subaru parts specialist and they advice me ANY pre'95 import doesn't require a cat at all..... so i replied i can be fully de-cated and pass a MOT still and he said YES!! Where can i get something to show this?? as i need to speak to the MOT garage again Monday morning, he said if they can't be 100% on the make / model and "what" was standard then they have to pass the car and give the customer the benefit of the doubt. I have got a new Sensor to put on just in case to help.......... Thanks in advance...... ;)
savage bulldogs Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Early classics definitely only have the 1 cat in the downpipe and I think it's pre 92 that cars didn't have a cat in the UK but I'm unsure of the rules regarding imports and their cats . Can you not ask the "subaru specialists" to recommend a local mot place that is more familiar with scooby imports [emoji6] 1

After this one I will take it elsewhere to not have this again!! :D
Scoobyghost Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Always nice to know a specialist who deals with special emission requirements [emoji12] I travel 30 mile round trip to my mechanic. 1
lev1982 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 It's only required for an mot if it was built with one. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
GeoffLeggy Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Will this fit? Sorry but I like shiny new things. But if yours has a cat in down pipe then no point probably. http://www.japspeed.co.uk/subaru-impreza-classic-gc8-sports-cat.html
stants Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Speaking from exeprience a sports cat may have trouble passing !
GeoffLeggy Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Suppose depends how close you are to passing? @Scoobydoobydan
stants Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Mine was about 2% over the threshold last time before I had the map, no idea what it was this time I didn't ask [emoji23] 1
Scoobyghost Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I still have my cat downpipe if it's needed.
Scoobydoobydan Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Hey guys sorry for late reply, issues with the notifications?! All sorted in in the end, it was with a downpipes cat from factory, but it was quite a bit over the limit, but I found something online and after speaking to a few local Scooby experts who pointed me in the right direction, and if it's a pre '95 model plus being an import then by law it does not need a cat at all!!! So after finding this out I took the information back to the garage and showed them and then they retested the whole car and passed it with 0 problems!!!! But I did change it to a decat pipe now, well I might as well now it's allowed !!!!! 3
