Scoobyghost Posted March 23, 2016 Share Posted March 23, 2016 I've had a slight gearbox oil leak for a while that is progressively getting worse. I've considered a second hand box but given the nature of these cars I'd prefer having a new box for peace of mind and a real guarantee. I've had a local rough quote of £500-600. My question to you good people is: Can you send me anyone that comes highly recommended, quick turn around and reasonably priced? New clutch and skimmed flywheel to go on at the same time. savage bulldogs Posted March 26, 2016 Share Posted March 26, 2016 I've had 2 classic flywheels skimmed and both exedy pink box clutches handled 350hp fine with no problems or judder .spigot bearings are well worth doing imo .As they only cost £12 and they just "tap" into the centre of the fly to steady the idle shaft . the 3rd scoob I fitted a new clutch too had a paddle clutch originally . It had eaten into the flywheel and left deep ridges and visual cracks . So that was swapped for a lightweight flywheel as it looked well beyond a "skim" . Where's the leak coming from and have you got any other issues with the box ? As there's 3 main oil seals on the gearbox (prop and drive shafts x2) which normally leak gearbox oil . If its leaking engine oil the crank seal directly behind the flywheel or the back of the sump are the usual culprits. These are easy to change when the box is out and only cost about £15 each from icp If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Scoobyghost Posted March 26, 2016 Author Share Posted March 26, 2016 Leak is definitely front input shaft. It's already had new seals. No noises. No rattles. All gears are fine. Apart from the leak you'd never know it had a problem. It's def box oil as the smell is obvious. original seal replacement job. clear signs of leak. Strangely it hasn't effected the clutch. I've never had it slip and I only lose/use oil when giving it some. I'd say it leaks 500ml/6 months. Maybe less. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
