Garry46
Hi to all 50yr old previous boy racer and ive owned a mk1 escort Mexico/Skyline R33/300zx TT and I'm in the process of looking searching here and auto trader eBay etc as we'll as doing some serious research into what I'm letting myself into before I Shell out my hard earnt cash. My budget will be around 6K and I'm set on a wrx uk model and so far there are loads about but the mileage seems high for there ages but that might just be me as both my jap imported nissans had low mileage and my main question is do I purchase a stock wrx or try and find one that's been properly modified (engine) as I'm wary of home jobs as I've seen and read horror stories,as for the exterior I'm happy to have the sti rear wing and any subtle changes done to the bodywork as from what I've seen I like for an oldy in his 50's (prime) but a boy racer through and through lol. im from the Essex area so once I've got myself a scooby I will join in on outings as used to do a fair bit back in my Nissan days so no stranger to meets and I've missed them since I became a boring old !Removed! but life takes us in different directions but I'm back to pick up from where I once was if i can find the car for me and I won't just buy anything as I'm very particular and will travel all over the uk to find the right one for me so I can imagine this thread will be lost for a while till I update with hopefully pictures of my new car but I wouldn't hold your breath guys as I can see this taking sometime ha ha right enough waffle as I do get carried away sometimes (age related lol) Garry
Mecka
Hello be careful to many rusty subaru! Before you travel ask them to send you some pictures of body condition.Because as was looking for one from pictures and peoples description car was perfect when your turn up to see you expecting perfect car but when you see in reality absolutely rubbish :) Good luck :)
Garry46
Hi Mecka thanks for the advice and been surprised in the past with someone's "MINT" condition only to turn out junk but to be fair most people do describe any dinks/stone chips or scratches as there's going to be on a 10yr old car unless it's been in bubble wrap all its life and I'm realistic on condition and was searching auto trader and look at this I just found my dream car... Search for yours via Auto Trader #DrivenByMe http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201604283425198
Mecka
Nice one low mileage only down side 5+ owners if think he would let you for 6k£! :)
Garry46
Yea low mileage if it's real and what sets my alarm bells ringing is 5 owners in that time and what did they just buy it to sit in a garage and never be used????? the car looks clean enough and it's not far away but unless he replies back to me with a dam good reason why there has been 5 owners in only 22000 miles of its life I will flick onto the next car as I'm in no rush at all 👍😃
savage bulldogs
Hi n welcome to s.o.c, Gary . A £6k budget is almost good bug eye sti money so you should be able to find a decent wrx in that Price range. As you've owned a jdm before you probably know that they do tend to be that bit cleaner underneath . There's a buying guide amongst the sticky threads on here which is worth a read ,as it covers most common issues. I'm only about 15 miles from you (just across the Suffolk border) so I'll keep a eye out for anything local . Best of luck with the hunt, bud [emoji106] If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊

savage bulldogs
Your welcome and keep us updated on the hunt . "scoob" is a language in its own right , it does get easier once you get familiar with the lingo though. [emoji5] You will pay a extra £3k + for a sti of the same year over a wrx but the newage sti's stronger gearbox and better brake set up sells for about £2.5 k more than the wrx spec stuff . Dont get me wrong the wrx is a capable motor with plenty of potential. There's a blobeye wrx on here hitting low 12's on the 1/4 mile, without any real major modifications (original engine and box ). choice of base car probably depends if you want to modify or not, then if it's for big power or drivability and smiles per gallon . If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊
Garry46
Thanks again for the info and advice and yea the scoob language takes some getting used to lol ive been looking more tonight and you no what I'm really liking the older style scooby and please excuse my lack of knowledge on what model but pre 2000 I think but gonna be a mine field to find a really clean uk one unless I go down the JDM route again which I won't rule out for now. ive checked out the sti and yes your spot on with being just out of my reach for the sort of mileage and condition I'm after and being beefed up box/breaks can only be a good thing and again I've not really looked that much into specs yet but I'm leaning towards a fairly stock wrx blobeye with maybe a uprated exhaust but untouched under the hood so I can tinker at a later date but will most definitely have it mapped for a few extra horses👍 Dont get me wrong I like the looks of the the sti better as well as the pre-2000 than the wrx uk but as they say beggars with not enough money for them can't be choosers ha ha
Garry46
Been looking at this scoob on Facebook it's a the terzo version with a 2.5 lump in it and anyone got any info please..
savage bulldogs
I Don't know anything about that particular car ,unfortunately. They didn't make many Terzo versions but spec wise they're basically a uk car with a different interior. So generally not over valuable in standard guise due to the lower uk spec . There's not as much difference in strength of equipment between the classic sti and wrx and uk versions. But in standard form you'd probably get a extra 50 hp from the sti with just a map and breathing mods . The 2.5 conversion gives the lightweight classic loads of low down torque . the standard classic gearboxes are know to spit out their dummies at 330hp . At that level of tune even a standard 2.5 lump shouldn't be too stressed . I prefer the classics but im a bit bias as I've only ever owned 2 jap motors and both of them have been silver classic saloons . they're a raw drive in comparison to the "newage" (bug eye or 2000 onwards). .... But I only do 4k miles per year in mine If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊
salsa-king
if you get a Terzo you want it standard and it will be a collectors car. ... liek buying a Catalynia (not sure on spelling of that lol) Not like above.. too much done to it.... IMO
quit
looks chavy , Terzo is just a uk, so is a catalyuna , nothing special really
Jay762
I am so going to have to own a 300zx at some point - loved my 200sx but could not run to the 300 at the time but then again I have always hankered after an R33... come on euromillions

savage bulldogs
Spotted this on one of the many face book pages . Think I reconised the car from a member off here a while back (could be wrong though) Dunno if it's your cuppa but thought I'd show you a screen shot anyways . I'm not sure if a face book link will work on here (especially if your not a member of the group) If it's not broke .....upgrade it 😊
