To remap or not to remap

Recommended Posts

Hi guys being the relatively new owner of a quite rare 06 Subaru Impreza WRX 2.0 ?,I was wondering what subtle mods I could do,I was thinking of a remap but the car has done 103k miles wth FSH , would it put a lot of strain on the engine as I definitely don't want a rebuild!, I have just put on a vortex afterburner backbox that sounds good.cheers

Neil

As long as the map is done properly it wont add any strain. A remap is typically just reducing tolerance due to knowing the perimeters of the specific engine itself. Upping the boost will add some strain but a decent mapper shouldn't be overloading it anyway. So short version is no a full custom map wont give you issues assuming it is done correctly

Thanks for that, although living in the back and beyond as I do I doubt there's any decent tuners around here anyhow, probably be while before I do it as it's definitely fast enough at the minute, also can you remap them to run on 97 Ron fuel as that's the best we can get around here..

I would say defo go for it, i got my classic mapped a couple of months ago and what a difference its like night and day and its also using a little less fuel when just pottering about and as @Tidgy says as long as its done properly you should have no problems at all. I'm the same as you and live out in the sticks so had to travel to glasgow to get it done but it was well worth it 😉👍

Depends on how far you would be willing to travel, just had a wee googley and there's a place called cams performance in blackburn who reckon they are scoob specialist so might ne worth a phone call, not sure what they like though so can't recommend them, maybe someone on here has come across them before 👍
