lee1981
That is true, but I could Also spend £800 and it still be the same.... It doesn't look like anyone out there can actually test the ECU itself, Rob Ostle has replied and he seems to think it would be more of a wiring issue than an ECU fault but he can not be certain. Gambit
:( I know the wiring is not a cheap job either I know a few Car electrical engineers and just for a small job what I would call small job they charge loads for it.
Scooby Pete
If you live near someone with the same car you could swap over ECU's and take it for a drive see if the fault replicates with the 2nd "good" ECU.
salsa-king
Would Scooby clinic be able to swap one over and check if they already have a 330s in... Sent from my ST23i using Tapatalk
lee1981
Hi guys that would be an ideal situation for me, i could even meet someone at the subaru dealer where the car is now, as they are quite helpful and dont mind me going into the workshop to chat to the technicians. lee1981
I would obviously be willing to pay someone for this good deed as it would help me out no end.
salsa-king
I can't see why they can't get a new ecu to try. If it works and fixes it you buy it. If not they don't charge you. Sent from my ST23i using Tapatalk
lee1981
I did ask that, but they say if they order one in it needs paying for regardless of it it fixes it or not, So it would be expensive to order one just to try it. I was expecting the dealer just too tell me the fauly so i could buy the part or get it repaired etc, but this does not seem to be the case at all, and it is becoming a bit of a joke. salsa-king
So what do they advise? Sent from my ST23i using Tapatalk
lee1981
To buy a new ECU or get my one checked, but they cannot guarantee new ECU will work.

Gambit
I will have a look to see if any breaker's around you have one they might be willing to let you test it.
Jay762
I think it is more likely to be the wiring - ECUs tend to be generally robust - unless it has been messed with
lee1981
Thank you, that would be great if you could ask around for me, and yes I'm inclined to believe it would also be a wiring fault. I may have to take to another dealer but once again it will cost me all over again as they will want to charge me and check again what the other dealer has already done! It's a bit of a **** situation and it will also cost to transport it etc, if the other dealers could guarantee me to find the fault I would do it, but it seems no one is willing to do this. Gambit
I have to agree to I think it's more a wiring problem but if we can at least get a ecu. Easier said than done it can be ticked off hopefully without to much cost. I will have a check later see what I can find.
lee1981
Yes that's exactly right mate, would help me out no end and then I can just say to the dealer it is wiring fault!

BoozyDave
it's a !Removed! situation that you are stuck in it's a Subaru in a Subaru dealer and they can't find the fault WTF, are the staff trained or what????? look at it this way, I'm a sparky and I go into all sorts of premises with faults and I have to find them. I can go into a house with wiring over 30 years old, god knows how many alterations and additions, and I can find faults. so, how come they can't find a fault on a standard 4 year old car???? lee1981
Hi, cheers guys, yes I'm not that happy about the dealer too, they have been a Subaru main dealer for aslong as I can remember but they do seem to be doing more on chrysler s and jeep these days!! Gambit thank you for all that info, I have rang lots of them already last week they are mainly just normal scrap yards, they have a couple of old scooby s but no gen 3s. I'll give the other places a call on Monday. Salsa king- which good point from Rob do you mean..? Does anybody know if it has to be a 330s Ecu or can I just use any..?
