  1. Unless the unit is defective the most likely problem is that the internal firmware/software is corrupted so that the boot up process is being stalled. The XV I owned was a later model but if it were mine I’d locate the radio fuse and take it out for a while and hope this might clear any internal data. Try a reboot. If that did not clear the issue then download the latest firmware/software onto a USB and see if I could get the unit to reinstall the operating system. (Or SD card not sure how your unit works but the Subaru support page should help you with that) Not much help I’m afraid but it does look essentially like a boot up problem. Sadly most garages in my experience have no knowledge or interest in sorting Head Unit problems. There are specialist companies who sell units and a call to them or a visit might be beneficial. Hope you get it sorted.
  2. Best advice don’t look book a test drive, it’s a different experience driving an hybrid car. Reading specs and the like is one thing but it’s a different feeling to drive, try to get at least a couple of hours if you can. My dealer was very good and just gave me the keys and told me when the garage closed. Keep us posted on what you decide as you’ve said the XV is good for the next 13 months but it might be worth testing out something different. Good luck whatever you decide.
  3. @kash0613, It's such a pain buying a car right now. The joy is sucked out of the experience almost from day 1 of placing the order. It appears that some manufactures are better than others and on the Toyota Owners Forum (RAV4) they are reporting an upgraded HEV version, better equipped and a lower price and some are getting very quick build slots. They have mitigated the chip issue better than others due to policy of forward buying. I can appreciate how you feel, it's difficult but you might well be in a similar position in 12 months time who knows what's ahead of use? But as you've said you have a car that works and are happy with so maybe sitting tight is the best option. Let us know what you decide I'd be really interested to know.
  4. @kash0613, as has been said before the low sales volume of all the Subaru cars put together in the UK just does not justify more variations. I did recently get a letter telling me they had appointed another dealer near me, that would help if I every go back to a Subaru car, currently very happy with the RAV4 PHEV. Enjoy your new motor.
  5. Nice wheels… enjoy. 😇
  6. @kash0613, sorry to hear the issues you’ve got the brakes on the XV have become a right pain in the BTM! What car have you got on order?
  7. Always good to have a solution.
  8. Yes and unfortunately in this case there is no way you can use any methods of protection! I’m sure someone will know.
  9. Sorry I have no idea but have you tried plugging into the mating cable?
  10. I have the RAV4 PHEV 302hp, 18.1 KWh battery so about 45 to 50 miles range on EV. Today I did a trip from Derbyshire to Bedfordshire mainly M1 (100miles) all at speed limits. EV 44miles the rest at 57mpg, the HEV mode works really well very quiet engine (2.5ltr Atkinson Cycle) 0-60mph in 5.7 secs. It’s heavy but handles really well, clever engine management with an app to precondition the cabin, and built in charger 240v or Type2, cables provided. Easy to set the leaving time on the app and precondition set to on and the car is ready with a full charge and the energy used to heat or cool the car taken from the charger not the on board traction battery. It’s not cheap to be sure but I really love to drive this car. If it’s a company car then it’s a steal as the tax is based on the WLTP at 22gms, I’m a private buyer. The let down is the in built Head Unit, somewhat clunky by modern standards but I use Android Auto/Waze and it’s bullet proof unlike the XV, sometimes I had issues with it after phone app updates. Nothing’s perfect but right now I’d choose the same again. The Hybrid version is also a very good buy, much cheaper cash outlay and good economics. The Toyota Owners Forum is very active and there is a good level of friendly. Hope that helps?
  11. Whilst I’ve moved onto RAV4 PHEV it’s still interesting to see what’s going on it XV land, not much looking at the postings? For the XV that’s pretty good I’d say. I always found the trip computer best part of 10% optimistic. You sound like your enjoying the car and that’s got to be a positive.
  12. I think it’s certainly true that the tyres need to rotate regularly and then when it’s parked again it’s likely that the tyre will touch the road on a different section. Glad you like the CrossClimates.
  13. Glad you got it sorted I bet your pleased it’s been a long and winding road? The colour match won’t last long a few miles and it will be just brake dust.
  14. @kash0613, I can understand the feeling but at least they some effort. Confidence in anything is so hard to come by and so very easy to be lost. I’m always amazed that some dealers struggle to understand that simple principle and always make life so much more difficult than it need be.
  15. @Justin Time, that sounds good. When mine was damaged the tyre fitters did not think they could get any of the generic sensors to communicate. There are certainly lower cost options than the Subaru offer.
  16. I usually source mine from Costco if possible they currently have an £80 off 4 tyres on 18” wheels. At the end of the day you get the best deal you can. I’ve mentioned this before but when I had my CrossClimates fitted to the XV on of the TPMS sensors was damaged, the fitters paid for it but I had to order from Subaru as it’s a bespoke item and the cost was £125! Maybe when you get them fitted just mention that the car has TPMS sensors, at least by doing so you’re giving them a heads up. I was lucky my dealer was able to get one fast it would have been a real pain if it was on back order. I noticed a significant difference when the XV was fitted in the performance in rain, the sort of thing I mean is standing water on motorways, the car really felt planted. I’ve also been thought deep snow both wet and icy and again the felt very comfortable. The XV seems to work well with these tyres so you should be a very happy bunny.
  17. Agree about the tyre change, I can never understand why a car with such good 4x4 performance is fitted with obvious summer tyres. Great play, and rightly so, is made by Subaru about the cars traction system yet they still match the car with poor tyres, the whole system is potentially rendered useless for a relatively trivial cost during the manufacturing process. Glad you are enjoying the car......
  18. @olliesgrandad, that’s great news and I’m sure your relieved and a nice new AGM battery as well. Sadly, it’s good it happened now and that you can get it sorted under the warranty. Enjoy.
  19. Glad they have responded so positively, let’s hope it comes back with a nice new battery, I think I’d also like to know that the alternator is working correctly?
  20. @olliesgrandad, that’s good you’ve got your 30 day warranty and agree they should change the battery PDQ. It’s such a downer when something goes wrong so soon after you’ve taken delivery. Really hope they sort it without the traditional kicking of tyres!
  21. I think it's true that many modern cars do not like to be left for long periods and whilst the current drain maybe small it is continuous due to security systems in operation, it adds up. However, after a 90 mile run I'd have thought that the battery would have fully recovered so maybe it is just a knackered battery. It seems to be a fairly common enough problem as can be evidenced by the number of trickle charger and multi function chargers that are now available. Hope you get it sorted it's not a good way to start out with a new can but the grandchildren were probably excited by the visit of the AA man? I hope your dealer is prepared to offer you a good deal on a new battery?

@olliesgrandad, I’m on a couple of Toyota forums although the US based on is very much for focused on itself. I’ve also taken out a 2 year deal and get the Halfords discount etc., Luckily my grandson is 17 and learning to drive, he’s keen to get behind the wheel of the RAV, but that will have to wait awhile yet I think?😊 When I bought the car I took out a 5 year service deal, paid monthly with no interest and fixed at 2021 prices, they also offer discounts to have the mot rolled into the service etc. That’s one thing I’ve commented on about the XV very expensive to service in fact three years at Subaru more of less buys me 5 years at Toyota if based on time, mileage is about 4 plus years. Enjoy your XV….

    Moving on

@olliesgrandad, I think there is always a divergence of preferences and eventually we all get to be in a happy place that suits our driving style. I’m a great supporter of the CrossClimates and will change to them at some point. The RAV4 has Yokohama Advent fitted as standard and so far I’ve been reasonably happy with them, they are based on an all weather tyre and if I’d like get some life out of them before I change them. My RAV4 Is a PHEV and has an 18Kw battery which I can charge from the mains, this gives me a range currently over 50miles with the AC/heating on, and it can drive the car up to 84mph before the engine cuts in. So most of my local trips run on battery. Even though it’s 18Kw the car reserves 30% to be used in hybrid mode so preserving the full 302HP performance. What I’d really like is a full EV but the infrastructure is so poor I’d be a nervous reck driving any distance. My Subaru dealer is keeping me posted about the release of the BZ range, the collaboration between Subaru and Toyota, battery technology etc., from Toyota and transmission permanent AWD from Subaru, should be interesting. Enjoy your XV…

@olliesgrandad, interesting everything I’ve read on the Lexus website suggests the opposite of what your saying, sorry here’s an extract. The basics – these will help any car’s fuel efficiency, hybrids included. 1. Tidy the boot! Removing unnecessary weight from the car will boost performance immediately 2. Consult the handbook. Ensure the car’s tyres are correctly inflated 3. Plan your journey – avoid jams or getting lost 4. Close windows and sun roof at higher speeds (above 45mph) 5. Remove unused roof racks, boxes and bike racks 6. Maintain a steady speed, and do not exceed speed limits 7. Avoid sudden braking and acceleration Hybrid driving – sorry other car drivers, these are for hybrids only! 8. Familiarise yourself with the car’s hybrid information display so you can monitor how much energy is being used 9. Be gentle with the accelerator pedal; press it lightly but consistently, to help keep the car in EV mode 10. Use ECO mode for improved efficiency – this will reduce response to aggressive use of the accelerator 11. Gentle, early braking boosts regenerative braking, resulting in EV mode being able to operate for longer periods 12. Monitor the dials and gauges to fully understand the state of the hybrid system and manage high voltage battery levels 13. When in stop-start traffic, do not select ‘N’ neutral when stationary, as electricity will not be generated and the hybrid battery will discharge 14. Consider the use of Cruise Control to maintain steady speeds 15. If using Climate Control, re-circulate mode reduces energy usage 16. Maximise your use of EV mode wherever it is appropriate to do so 17. Consider the environment! Heavy use of ancillaries like air-con, lights and wipers will increase energy consumption

@olliesgrandad, interesting I’m currently driving in ECO mode all the time and finding that the performance and economy is fine. Currently getting over 50 miles on a charge and based on various trips where I’ve excluded the EV mileage I’m getting over 60mpg. My car is over 2tonne and a 2.5ltr Atkinson cycle ICE. If I put it into HV mode and sport then it will do 0-60mph in 5.7 secs, it’s an easy car to drive.
