  1. Hello Zee Sky insurance do mine, its a JDM car and on the paperwork says unknown. Give them a call and they will sort it. Welcome to the club Matt
  2. A word of warning though. If you use citric acid make sure you paint or rust protect any surfaces that will be on show as they will immediately rust again, if the come into contact with conditions to create rust.
  3. The Mrs makes bath bombs and bubble bars, she had a 5kg tub. Its brilliant stuff
  4. I wasnt happy with my rusty discs showing after putting on new wheels. So I soaked them in a citric acid bath for 4 hours and painted the centre sections gloss black.
  5. Brakes bled, and new fluid added. I decided to tackle my sloppy gearbox, I removed the UJ joint and looked for the bushings online. I cant find any at a reasonable price, so I'm looking into fabricating something.
  6. What's that river water? Prestone coolant is half price at Tesco
  7. Coolant added today, I found lots of info about difficulty bleeding the system of air. But being a plumber helped. I just filled the heater core and block through a funnel after disconnecting from the engine. Filled the radiator through the top hose, topped the expansion tank to minimum, and filled the header tank a few times. I decided to bleed the clutch cylinders too, and it got rid of my squeaky clutch pedal, and it feels much smoother. Brakes tomorrow
  8. I've drained the coolant today, I used the radiator drain *****, took off the top hose, filled the rad with clean water and flushed it through a few times. I've removed the thermostat housing and removed the stat to get the coolant out, and disconnected the heater core hose and flushed that through a few times. I've removed the header tank and want to get it to look as new as possible. Has anyone any tips on cleaning and restoring cast aluminium?
  9. Gearbox oil is changed, rear differential oil is changed, I got zero swarf from the gearbox which I was surprised about, and very minimal tiny fillings from the rear diff. No time for coolant today. I'm attacking that tomorrow. I'm on a roll with the fluids so I may as well do the clutch, brakes, and power steering.
  10. I've had the wagon a few months now, and hit the 3000 mile mark. I've changed the oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, cleaned the MAF sensor, and changed the oil. Tomorrow is gearbox oil, rear diff oil, and coolant swap.
  11. I've collected my wheels today they are in paint code GK1 They are a subtle gold, more of a caramac colour, which I prefer. Top is new Bottom is old The pictures do nothing for them, they have been done to a brilliant standard, and every detail has been discussed and checked before completion. Thanks to BCS Automotive Nottingham
  12. Dropped of the Wagon for an alloy wheel refresh, I will get some pics tomorrow after picking it up. I'm also on the hunt for some decent brake pads for the 4 pot front and 2 pot cast iron calipers. Any suggestions would be appreciated. They are weak!
  13. The 2.5 engines have a pretty bad reputation, but most of these issues seem to come from modifying.
  14. Very nice, just be kind to it and it will give you plenty of smiles.
  15. Are these tickets just for admission, or is it a show
  16. I thought so too, mine are in for the 3rd July, I could post them but I dont think it's a good plan. I was sent the offer over a bank holiday, saying limited number of slots available, with various wheel and caliper refurbishment offers. I will put some before and after pics once they are complete.
  17. Ouch. I'm getting mine done in a few weeks at BCS Automotive in Nottingham. I asked for a quote on the website and a week later I got a special offer, it cost £185 for repair and respray in any colour, any finish with lifetime warranty.
  18. Thanks a lot. I've had a practice run on the wife's fiesta, it has every type of scratch imaginable. It came up pretty good, I used a dual action polisher, as I heard you can burn through the clear coat with a polisher if you have no experience with them. The Ammo videos on YouTube give an in depth scientific analysis of polishing. Which I found really useful.
  19. I'm having a try at polishing mine for the first time, what's the paint like what did you use a rotating polisher or dual action.
  20. Did those fog lights come as standard?
  21. I have taken her out for a blast, I tried keeping up with a BMW M3, it got away on the straights. I've bought some coolant today I'm going to attempt to swap the coolant. My plan is remove the reservoir hoses, and connect one to the hose pipe and one to a pipe into a bucket, then remove the bottom coolant hose after a gentle flush. It took me 3 hours to find an appropriate coolant.
  22. Hello I'm no expert, but I bought a JDM a few months ago. Mine is an STI wagon 2001 -It should have zero rust, ask for the auction sheet, it will give you a score out of 5 for it's condition, the Japanese are extremely thorough so anything above 4 is good, it has an air intake, which means it should have been mapped for, I would ask about that, other than that, the 2.5 engine has a bad reputation but on a JDM STI hopefully it will have either a forged or semi forged engine. An identification plate under the bonnet will give you the engine code and gearbox code, check them for reliability. I have included a picture. I'm in pontefract if you want to walk around mine
  23. I've had my first problem with the car, the aftermarket alarm so not really the cars fault. It decided to disconnect the fob and the immobiliser was active, and guess who didnt have the manual override code. Me, the previous owner and the numb nut who installed it. But in his infinate wisdom during the install he left the code on the back of the unit. Lucky me, it's the equivalent of writing your pin number on the back of your credit card. Changed it now all sorted. On a positive note I got myself a dual action polisher to improve the imperfections on the paint.
