  1. Rick i have two small bore pipes from the header tank one goes to the rad itself the other goes to a thin metal pipe that runs right across the rad to the plastic expansion bottle near the battery. Turbo I can't remember the exact clearance as i built it nearly 2 yrs ago but I spoke to the tech guy at advanceautomotive (where I bought the pistons from) and explained I wanted to run 550 hp max (600hp limit on my crank) and he told me what to get the bores machined to and what to gap the rings at . They're quite noisy when cold and quieten down to a light "tappet" noise when warm (70°oil temp).tbh as I don't intend to break the 500 barrier anymore (350 hp in a 1220 kg car is more than fast enough for the road) so I wish I'd bought the slightly cheaper lesser hp version mahles ,as they're allowed to run tighter clearances . Don't get me wrong my engines done 8k @ 330 + hp now and doesn't use a drop of oil or coolant . It's actually at it's quietest when being spanked on the dyno with 100° oil temp but I did buy "race" pistons so I suppose thats to be expected. As for oil grade I ran it in with millers 10w40 running in oil changed at 250 miles , 600 miles then 10 w40 fully synthetic millers in at 1k and had it mapped. Best oil I've found to keep the pistons quieter but the oil pressure right for the crank ect is the millers nano drive 10w60 . Hope that helps fellas
  2. Cheers stants ,they don't make it easy do they lol Either way matt will get his refund monday evening ,unless he needs it beforehand of cause
  3. Well I've sent a online claim form off to the post office and after a good hr or so of searching about I'm still non the wiser as to who they'll send the refund to
  4. Thought esl was open source software (no licence to use it ) have you tried to search for a free software download or device driver . Maybe email the company you bought the lead off and ask for some info on connectivity
  5. Thanks for the update bud and I'm glad at least the spotlights are ok . I'm currently in A&E as my youngest has hurt her ankle but I'll pm you a bit later this evening to sort your refund amount . Cheers clive
  6. Sorry to hear that your circumstances have changed steve ,Haven't you got any kids you can sell instead What about adding a tracker or a limited milage policy to bring the premium down a bit. Maybe even sell the jdm sti and get a cheaper uk version . Best of luck whatever the outcome bud
  7. Shappens (crap happens ) not your fault for sure fella. Yeah I gaffa taped jiffy bags to the lenses , wrapped them in bubble wrap reinforced the box with cardboard and more gaffa tape ,stuffed the box with paper and bubble wrap ....... And they still broke it [emoji15] I've downloaded the after pics and I'll pop to the post office see what the "CRACK" is [emoji51]
  8. Ffs Poxy couriers I wrapped them up well enough and put fragile on the box . are the spots in one piece ? I'll get on to the post office tomorrow and get the ball rolling with the insurance . Once I've spoken to them I'll refund you the money for the headlights and have to fight them for damages [emoji57]
  9. The rcm oil pump I'm running is just a standard subaru one with uprated prv fitted by rcm . as I didn't want to increase oil pressure with a larger pump ,just have piece of mind that it's less likely to fail . I probably could have fitted a uprated prv myself but the rcm one was brand new and only cost £100 . As someone was selling their build parts due to a change in direction with their build
  10. Weight probably has a bit to do with it as Classics sti's are about 600kg lighter than newage sti's and I'd assume that the outback is a bit heavier still I'm Sure it still shocks a few people how well it pulls with 245 hp , especially on the carriage way with no lag and a rolling start [emoji4]
  11. I've never bought from them my self just heard good feedback of them so couldn't comment from personal experience . Most people I know use cosworth or rcm if looking to upgrade their oil pumps but that doesn't mean they're no good
  12. Here's a link to their site and the kits they do http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts?page=1&cat=96⊂=183&sec=349&var=25&dc=0&gen=&searchKey=&searchPart= You're better off phoning them and speaking to luke (if possible) he's very helpful and sometimes give a discount for buying a few bits at once
  13. Looks like a tidy example [emoji106] Any plans other than the bodywork refresh ?
  14. Grahame goode is a reputable company but it doesn't mention whether the idlers and tensioner are oe subaru . Have you had a look at icp belt kits ? As they're about the cheapest prices for new subaru stuff . As for my personal preferance i went for the gates kevlar belt and the rcm modified oil pump which is the same size with a uprated pressure relase valve . What did the rac man have to say ,Has the head gasket gone then bud ?
  15. I've just fitted 2 new firestone firehawks on the front and the best of the ying sing ditch finders on the rear . As I'd sooner loose traction at the back and still be able to point it in the right direction by having good traction at the front [emoji6] Once the rears are worn I'll switch the firestones to the back and fit new ones on the front
  16. Hi n welcome to soc glad to hear another bug being saved from the scrappy . Feel free to start a build thread to show your progress. And chuck some pics up of cause
  17. Nice one time to go home the long way and drink all the milk so you can go out again and get some more [emoji4]
  18. Had a couple of bikers egging me on down some b roads I just kept to the speed limit but lost them on the twistys due to not braking . Eventually came to a round about leading to the carriage way with both bikes beside me giving me the thumbs up [emoji41] as we pulled away one of them went like a missile the other sat next to me by the time I changed out of 3rd on the slip lane he was a good 2 car lengths behind . Next exit was a shell garage so I pulled in to v power up (shortly followed by the other bike) and the 1000cc kawasaki was sitting they're filling up as well . Got chatting with them and asked why the other bike didn't overtake as well ? Mines only a 600cc and I couldn't catch you cos that old scoob of yours is fooking fast [emoji4]
  19. Hi n welcome to soc ,nice choice of scoob the 2 door classic . Basic Type r's are pretty much a 2 door version of the 4 classic saloon wrx sti with dccd (direct control center diff) allows you to adjust power from front to rear . P1's are rarer due to the lower build numbers have a different interior rear spoiler longer uk gear ratios but no dccd . Ra stands for race altered and subaru did 2 and 4 door versions of these which normally means it's a bit lighter . I don't know what they did to 4 door Wrx ra's to change them tbh Wrx sti ra's have a working roof scoop(not a halfords stick on) manual window winders (saves the weight from the leccy motors) and some earlier ones have no side skirts (to save weight) Type r ra's pretty much the same as the wrx sti ra's (albeit with only 2 doors) There's a few special editions the like the 555 and some ra's didn't have the full lightening pack as far as I'm aware unless some owners have fitted side skirts and leccy windows . They're is a link on here somewhere showing all models and spec but I can't seem to find it atm. In the meantime feel free to search around on here , have a look at the buyers guide and post any links of possible cars you find and we'll do our best to advise you . Best of luck with the hunt fella
  20. Must be like the film "wrong turn" driving through your vilage lol Ive got virgin 50 meg and a super hub can't fault it . Even with the mrs and kids 3 tablets , smart phones and the laptop I don't get any lag on the ps4 . Is your bt fibre optic gambit ?
  21. Dare say there's not to many virgins left in gambits vilage :-)
  22. I'd get a few insurance quotes for your hatch with a 2ltr na conversion first as it might be too expensive anyways . If the quotes are too high you might be better off sticking with what you've got until you can afford to insure a turbo version . But if it's not too expensive and you fancy a project try researching compatibility with 1.5 and 2ltr Ecus (how many plugs) Inlets (are the intake port gaskets on the heads the same ) Flywheel/clutch Engine loom and auxiliaries . If neither of above floats you're goat maybe put yours back to standard sell it , buy a 2ltr na version and bolt your bits to that
  23. If I remember rightly yours had a mixture of later black plastic and early cast cam pulleys so had possibly been apart before ghost . I might be wrong about the dates on the tensioner change though as it's only what I've been told . I've only worked on a v1's (cast cam pulleys) and v3's (plastic cam pulleys) which both had the early hydraulic tensioners
  24. Best of luck ghost . I'm sure the extra boost and a few more spg (smiles per gallon) will make it your favourite mod so far [emoji6]
  25. Think the main difference in a full kit is that pre 97 ish have a hydraulic tensioner and later versions have a spring loaded tensioner . If you have a look on importcarparts website they'll have the right type listed for your year/model
