  1. Goodyear Eagle F1's are pretty popular for the scoobs... I've been using them since owning the car, all year round as well and they have performed really well! Will still be interesting to see what you think of the michelins! How much are they?
  2. Good to hear!! It really is pot luck with insurance companies. Direct line wouldn't insure me because of my STI intercooler and dump valve, in fact... 95% of everyday insurance companies wouldn't touch me because of the mods. Ended up with flux for £382 fully comp
  3. Yeh I'm going to buy enough distilled water to do a complete flush twice... would much rather do it properly the first time and not waste money on extra coolant!
  4. 3rd hanger isn't overly needed since they are so light anyway!
  5. So it seems as long as i get one that is NAP free and is OAT... i'm golden!
  6. Good reason to build it stronger and better!
  7. New age back boxes do have 3 hangers... the difference is the 3rd hanger (the one further in towards the car) is pointing the opposite direction
  8. Yeh it will fit, i think only one or two hangers are in the wrong position... you can heat them up and bend them the right way, some people have even cut them off as aftermarket systems are usually so much lighter you could probably get away with it
  9. Welcome to the club!!
  10. The long life stuff? http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/genuine-toyota-long-life-red-coolant-5-litres-pre-mixed.html?gclid=CLHYzJ_8tc0CFcyRGwodM64Dzw
  11. Yeh I have the stock radiator... maybe give it a miss :D
  12. Lasts 20 years?!? What kind of wizardry is this!!
  13. Is coolant the new engine oil debate?? :D
  14. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Fingers crossed i'm wrong... but since it's the two cylinders on the drivers side, head gasket would make sense :(
  15. I'm finding loads that are monoeythyl glycol with organic additives? http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-903-motul-inugel-optimal-car-antifreeze-coolant-ready-to-use.aspx Also thanks Stants for answering the spark plugs question!
  16. I don't know the answer off the top of my head but did some googling as I'm working night shift (hee haw else to do!) and it seems a normal pressure is somewhere in the high 130's to 140's and all the cylinders should be within in around 7 - 10psi of each other. So I would say cylinders 1 & 3 are def down on compression. So maybe the start of a head gasket on its way out?
  17. Woooow! I'm sure I watched a different video that made it look a lot more complicated than that... cheers man!! I was thinking about getting these plugs: http://scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=47_176&products_id=1254 Should I go for Grade 6 or 7? I was thinking 7 since I'm getting the car remapped?
  18. Excellent! Would rather do it myself than pay a garage to do it! :D
  19. That's really good! Can't wait until I get mine done!
  20. Thanks for the info so far guys! I remember watching a vid of a guy doing spark plugs and so much stuff had to be taken off/removed to access them? If it's as easy as that then I'll probably give it a bash myself!
  21. Fantastic result! What mods do you have to help get to that power?
  22. Hey folks, Currently doing a bunch of research as I'm planning on doing a bunch of service stuff to my scooby myself... most of which I've never done before! So been doing plenty of research, watching youtube vids etc... What I need to do: Change coolant, gearbox/diff oil and maybe spark plugs if I'm feeling particularly brave. While doing my research, I can find a general consensus for what oil and plugs to use... but not coolant. What do you guys use/recommend? Also should I flush my system out first with some sort of gunk remover and distilled water first? Or just do a straight coolant swap? Ta!
  23. If it's already pushing 300... go for handling. Coilovers and ARBs n bushes
  24. Welcome to the club! The scooby wave is pretty common!
  25. Mine does this, not too bad now after cleaning the IACV. First things first, buy a replacement gasket. You can pick them up for a few quid. Take a picture of the IACV before unscrewing so you can get the screws back in the same position, otherwise it could alter your idle. Unscrew and unplug the IACV, take some petrol or carb cleaner to the valve and you can let it soak for a while. I used some cotton buds to remove the heavy build up of carbon. Once it's cleaned and dried, put your gasket on then reattach! Pretty straight forward :D
