  1. that does look like it will need welding - don't know if it is an MOT failure but that is a big hole to fill
  2.   funny typo (at least I'm assuming it was a typo)
  3. you might have a noisy bearing, thin screw driver on pump and against ear will help with that but otherwise it will mean taking it off to check pump wheel etc
  4. easiest way is some clear tubing on the return line to the radiator that way when the engine is up to temp and the thermostat opens you can see the liquid flowing into the rad. you can pull the covers off and check the pump itself is being operated by the belt, this doesn't rule out an internal failure though
  5. it sounds like the coolant isn't flowing around the system - if you have already changed the thermostat I would now investigate the pump itself
  6. replace the filter then monitor - unless you know it has only recently appeared, if that is the case fit a catch tank and see how much is being blown out of the breather, I have had oil come out during spirited driving around corners where the oil slops about more and gets taken up the pipe by the air flow, it might be that a baffle will help keep the oil where it should be.
  7. does your fan cut in when the engine / rad is warm?
  8. sounds like it would be a breather pipe - you can get a little coming up just through normal usage but it shouldn't be excessive
  9. Well I know that is Denzel - but I don't remember a film with him and the little girl - sounds like I will be adding another film to the must watch list ;)
  10. but some filters eg K&N do recommend a very light oil to capture fine particles
  11. you may well have pinched it going through a pothole :(
  12. Wotcha and welcome - that is indeed a tidy example!
  13. Almost there, not long now :)
  14. engine oil or filter oil?
  15. does look like the banding has given way - have you pinched it going up a curb at all?
  16. Nope not seen this one...
  17. Wotcha and welcome Had to check this out with my van, as long as the rims are appropriate for the vehicle, even after market ones are fine, so for example if I were to run 19" car rims with XL tyres on my van and I had an accident I could be in breach of insurance regs because the wheels are not designed for the van - even if they didnt fail. However if (as I have) run a set of TUV approved aftermarket commercial alloys with appropriate tyres I am fine. So if you run a set of 16" aftermarket steels approved for the vehicle weight and corresponding tyres you should have no problem or give these chaps a ring http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-Steel-wheels-Subaru-Forrester-2008-Perfect-for-winter-full-set-of-4-/120895436996?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item1c25edf8c4 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Forester-15-Inch-Steel-Wheels-/310645623709?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4853ec0b9d
  18. Wotcha and welcome Ben - lovely classic you have there!!
  19. wider tyres do equal more friction and as a consequence higher fuel consumption however in this case I would point to the areas already mentioned, bearings gears brakes etc. as they are two dissimilar cars wrt history servicing mileage etc why don't you try the comparison with a friends NA car and see if there is a similarity there?
  20.
  21. what a beast, I bet that has caught a fair few people out - is it front, rear or AWD?
  22. most definitely ;)
  23. excellent result!! Another one for the archives, no doubt will help out others in the future
  24. I havent but its certainly a reputable brand
  25. Any questions take some photos make a new thread - always more than happy to help if possible
