You can get temp gauges for not much money, there are fitting kits available specifically for imprezas and fitting guides on line. You could pay a garage to do it for you. It'd work out far cheaper than a new engine :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Surely it would make more sense to make thirstier cars cheaper to tax and contribute more in fuel duty :-) Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

I got married last month-glad it's over and done with so I can spend again :-) the wrx was a wedding present to myself after saving and living like a pauper for 2 years! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Damn alcohol and t'internet... spent £300 last night on gauges and pillar pod, sti up pipe and all gaskets to get up pipe and 2nd decat on thats been on the dining table for 2 months. Oops. Good thing the wife don't look at my credit card and bank statements :-) Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Like an old laguna where the bumper had to come off for a headlight bulb change. Sod that! Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

If you have a fixed age for shock absorber replacement it would lead to lax attitudes on maintaining and checking them, the same as the current mot does now. Many people see an mot as a certificate of roadworthy-ness however in reality it is a minimum acceptable safety standard. Vehicle defects are probably the lowest primary cause of accidents, by far the vast majority are caused by human error. Unfortunately being human that will always be the greatest risk. Realistically roads are probably safer (serious accidents per user) than they have ever been given the huge amount of users these days, it's scaremongering that blows statistics out of proportion. Mine is a bit jittery on gear changes under hard acceleration with the Bailey on but hardly any different really and I now can't live without the sound now. I did try with the standard recirc but it wasn't the same. Seems pointless letting it spool if you can't hear it dump :-) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

You'd have to do a 3 point turn to get mine outta the drive... By which point it'd have !Removed! the neighbours off and woke me up... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Handling mods and maybe an exhaust to make a nice sound. Without a turbo performance engine mods would be limited in effectiveness Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

To dump valve or not too?
martyc replied to kfmotty88's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
My wrx does the same with holding revs, i did go back to the recirc but i couldn't live without the sound! Maybe i will grow up one day and learn to cope without my p-tish Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk -
Listen for engine noise, check when the engine belts were last changed, check the service history is actually full and with decent garages. Have a look at the state of the oil and coolant etc, does it seem well cared for? Check panel gaps and look for signs of repairs or replacement panels. A car this age probably will havw stone chips touched up etc, but a whole side respray or non factory finish on panel joins spells accident. One tell tale for me is tyres, are they matching and decent quality, not unknown cheap chinese crap or mix and match? Tends to give you an easy insight into the owners attitude of running a car. Make sure the clutch is ok, abuse and hard starts will soon take its toll. Good luck and let us know how you get on :-) Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

VED is a very minor part of overall running costs, however i did choose a pre 2006 2.0 wrx model so i didn't pay gas guzzler tax! WRXs are surprisingly affordable to run (maybe i just expected the worst), and 3 months into ownership mine has wanted nothing but fuel and air. Its civilised and as it doesnt have the sti spoiler it would almost be subtle if it wasn't for the bonnet scoop. Parts are in abundance and support and advice available is probably the best out there. They seem simple enough and solid. That and its a practical family wagon, great for shopping (better than the micra it replaced) and does mile munching duties when required with ease. Sometimes want more mid range poke tho... but it's easily enough achieved with a few upgrades. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

From what i can gather its not essential on a mild tune although it is helpful so I'll just keep an eye out til something turns up :-) Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk -
Its a maf sensor to measure airflow. The box looks like a resonator chamber to do with induction characteristics normally Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Apparently it flows better than the plastic one. It also makes getting the intercooler on and off a damn sight easier! Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk -

Do everything you want and map it in one hit would be best :-) mine runs fine with no cel with a straight thru centre section, prodrive box, k&n, and prodrive y pipe, however, it'd probably be better mapped lol. Got a 2nd decat pipe to go on then I'll get it on the rollers Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk -

Never done one so not really fit to comment but i hear its not the easiest bit to do, again will need a remap and it will throw a cel up but this can be mapped out too :-) Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk -

martyc replied to Ash3000k's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
The main cat is in the downpipe, you should be fine removing the secondary but it would need to be mapped after. The centre section only contains a resonator, not a cat. The second cat is the short bit after the downpipe. When the car is mapped the cel can be deleted to allow for the decat. Have you got the option to turn off the cel on your diagnostics? Has it been decatted? Could be oil contamination to the cat, stopping it working properly, causing the cel to flash up. I'd take a wild stab in the dark that the oil consumption is probably down to a worn turbo. But that is just a mad guess Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk -

Maybe we need to set up a rescue/support service, if you get stuck somewhere post where you are and any local members may be able to provide assistance, even if its a thermos of tea and sarnie whilst waiting for recovery? Seems to work well on landyzone (it was either a scoob or p38 rr, the scoob seemed more sensible) Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk -
I mostly run on momentum, or v power if i'm passing a shell. Managed 32mpg on a run to Gatwick last week (145 miles, a12/m25) and done even better on the way back this week. Thats in a 2003 blob wrx Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

I go back to my scoob after a week of being parked up at a hotel whilst being on my honeymoon in tenerife. If they've even moved it I'll friggin murder them! Took pics of the odometer and petrol gauge so I'll know exactly how far its moved Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Blobs are pretty reasonable on insurance if you get a wrx, had mine 2 months with nothing gone wrong so far, and it makes me smile everyday :-) Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Good luck- i need a spare as i only have one too! Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
