  1. I'd be inclined to stick with the 2.0 unless there's a good reason to go to the 2.5 (professionally built lump) as the Pistons have been known to fail and it's not as reliable as the 2.0 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I doubt there's much in it mpg wise overall- I'm getting mid 30s in my 2003 wrx, admittedly a lot of off boost commuting but do like to give it the odd squirt (just like the missus) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Depends on what model you're looking at, but about 3k should buy you something with loads of life left. Main thing is service history and how it's been looked after, no good having done only 50k if it's only been serviced twice! Avoid anything with bad mods, and that generally seems abused as it could turn out to be a ticking time bomb waiting to blow (it's bottom end) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I've got the prodrive back box with a non res centre section and 2nd decat. Makes all the right noises and can be heard coming (both at work and home have told me :-/ ) without being OTT. Although in the car is surprisingly civilised, with a nice little rumble with the window down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. 125k is nothing as long as it's serviced Getting more power would be flogging a dead horse Turbos are surprisingly not that much worse than n/a Imprezas on day to day running costs, insurance can be expensive but I paid 400 fully comp for my 1st year and was told after the 1st year of ownership it comes down (as long as I don't stack it) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Yep 5k for an oil drop here, cheaper than a new engine! That and it's why cabs cover phenomenal miles on the original engine, regular oil changes, even if they skimp on other stuff Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Subaru dealers will have massive overheads, hopefully better paid and brand specific trained employees. The mark up on new cars now is relatively low and most dealers make more on finance deals. I'm not saying to use Subaru, it's a free world, however I wouldn't trust halfords to change a bulb. Heard some real horror stories. Plus if a cars under warranty then main dealer servicing is worthwhile (in my opinion) and maintains resale value. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Thought I'd wash my filthy mistress :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Race dynamix are massively respected in the Subaru world.... I haven't personally used them but heard nothing but good things about Duncan Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Mines sat covered, primed and ready to go.... Unfortunately with 6 eleven hour day weeks suzi gets neglected:-( Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Bikes are the worst enemy.... I have a little gs500 which blew me away... Til I got the scoob! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. A 10-60 is a pretty heavy oil. That will cause some drag for sure. The main focus is the drive not the ultimate figures. The td04 should be good for at least 270hp. No point in 30bhp extra if you have to be flat out to get it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I have heard of 'lazy' turbos that don't like to make power but there's various factors- A) fuel B) aftermarket up pipe and down pipe, how well do they flow? C) oil thickness can create drag D) variation in build tolerance, compression ratio after h/g change E) when was your filter last cleaned/replaced? So many little things that could affect the outcome. What tyre pressures were you both running? You could even be getting leak from your d/v under pressure that's restricting boost. The main thing is how it drives, bhp don't mean owt if it doesn't deliver it well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Cool :) I'm new age with 5-30 fully synth (not sure what brand as garage supplied)and probably similar spec to you (2nd decat and cat back, k&n panel, prodrive y pipe). Guess I'll just keep an eye check levels and see how she does..... Already eyeing up a td04-19t and bigger injectors to crack the 300 mark! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. What oil do you run? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I wouldn't worry too much- most vehicles have 2 or 3 recommended oil weights and the odds of it causing a problem and the garage checking/ testing the exact spec used in the event of a warranty claim is slim Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I've read previously that anything above 1 bar is within spec- I think it may just be thin oil however there's a lot of people like you guys who are seeing 2 bar which unless I'm wrong- is about 28 psi? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Hi again :-) Just had my oil and filter changed, when sat at idle in traffic for long periods of time today I've noticed my OP gauge to drop to as low as 16/18psi. The garage tell me that they used 5-30 fully synth (not sure what it had at the last service as it was done when I bought it). To be honest this is only literally a couple of psi lower than what i have seen before (18/19psi), but the thought of a dead engine fills me with dread! When driving oil pressure is approx 60psi at 2k revs so seems ok.... What's the general consensus? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Got my car back although they didn't do the up pipe today so will have to go back in and have the map tweaked to suit at the same time. Initial impressions are good- now boosts to around 1.25 bar, and flicks up to 1 bar in a flash. Would feel more comfortable once it's been checked on a rolling road though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Dropped car off for 2/3 decat (leaving the downpipe in) and oil service/remap. It's like waiting for news when my wife was in labour. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. 2nd decat and sti up-pipe, oil service and remap booked for Friday [emoji48] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. For a decat, full exhaust and remap, running spot on with v-power that sounds just about possible on a really good engine, a ppp is supposed to be 265bhp with a cat and generic map. What type of golf gti is it? Don't forget the newer ones are pretty powerful, and with a remap would be rapid. Plus I always struggle getting power down because of too much grip, so until I'm slightly rolling I can't really launch hard. Although I surprised an m3 off the line today- just to storm past me a few seconds later..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. That's far too high oil consumption! That's a hefty price for a cambelt too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. So is it turbo or na? If it's not a turbo you're flogging a dead horse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. 92c doesn't seem too high and sounds perfectly fine, although I'm not sure what the operating temp is on these cars Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
