Took the orange XV (2012) in for the recall check today and it failed! They said it's the first one they have ever seen that has started to chafe through. They taped everything up and fitted the foam stopper whilst they try to find out what to order. They said it's a book job of 7 hours but as they have never done one before expect it will take 2 days. Strangely enough this afternoon I put my window down and it refused to go back up untill a few up down and half press attempts were made, it seemed quite sluggish on the way back up, So hopefully early January I'll get it done and all electrical gremlins will be resolved.

So I'm sat in the Subaru garage having Two recalls checked out on the orange XV (wiring harness & occupancy sensor) and got talking to the guy about oil levels and dpf's ... Apparently when running a dpf regeneration there is diesel injected into the oil which can cause the oil level to rise significantly. This is then burnt off at the DPF. Hence the need for the oil dilution reset and regular oil changes. I'm not 100% sure how accurate our conversation was, but thought it might be of interest.

Has anyone used Celtic Tuning for a diesel remap before? I'm looking around for someone near Edinburgh/Glasgow area and these guys seem to be nationwide. Remap cost is £360, and claims to take the Diesel engine up to 185bhp and 333lb/ft. I believe it's done via the OBD2 port. They seem to have a lot of good testimonials, but none for Subaru's. Any experience with them good or bad would be great.

Cheers Chris, I think it looks much better with the black grill. Yeah I think the Mann filters are ECP or Dingbro, but I'll definitely be trying to stick with OEM after seeing the size difference, as Mr B says OEM or Blueprint I think. Fresh Filter and sump washer cost me £23.81 from the parts department, so I'll fire that on in a few days with some new oil and take the dented one out, then she should be like new.

Changed the oil and filter today on the new orange XV as I have a slight lack of trust when it comes to salesroom services. As the car hasn't got a full history I'm going to do a double oil change with a hundred or so miles in-between. I was amazed when I pulled off the old non subaru filter to see how small it was. (I've got a non dented filter fresh from the Subaru parts department ready to go on after a few miles).

Picked up our second XV today, 2012 with 26,000 miles on the clocks. Very happy, unsurprisingly is exactly the same as our 2013, except it's slightly more orange!

I completely understand your confusion. To explain a little further, if they had continued to produce the hatchback impreza with a diesel engine that didn't snap its crank every 60,000 miles I'd probably be the owner of an XV and an Impreza, as it is I'm the owner of one standard XV and potentially a second XV which may, depending on a few things be made a little more road car than off-road...

Hey Dogconker, I'll probably be doing the spray paint job next week (Update to follow on Wednesday) 👍 but was thinking about the badges, are your white ones just stickers or are they full plastic? Where did you get them from and are they easy enough to swap out?

Yes mate, does the job, the dog has jumped in and out the boot every day and it's holding up well, easy to fit with the double sided tape provided.

Tired of confirming my BT mobile phone at every engine start
Swayze88 replied to StefanH STHLM's topic in Subaru XV Club
Bump from 2015! What? This cant be right, have i been pairing my phone like a muppet for the last year?! Also how did i miss this thread. Going to try and re-pair(?) my phone at the weekend and see if doing it from the steering wheel helps. Thanks StefanH for posting this, I take it as you haven't posted since 2015 its been working since then. -
The Orange is very Marmite, I like the look of it, my partner hates it. Yeah MPG wise in her diesel XV we get 45.9mpg average. better on a casual run (much) worse if i'm in a hurry. Found a 2012(61 Reg) orange one with part history and 26,500 miles for £9,992. They are all the same engine up to 2017? very tempted...

So my Forester has died, I've rebuilt the engine and still having problems, and now at the point where I can't be without a car any longer. I've not got a lot of budget so would be looking for a second hand number, up to around £10k is a sensible amount i can afford to loan. So the question is, what to go for? The current garage is a 2013 2.0D XV - which my partner drives daily and I drive when she is not. Plus a 2004 2.0 Turbo Forester XT. The forester was LPG'd so returned the equivalent of 44mpg making it a great daily, but having 190,000 miles on it makes me question the logic behind repairing it. I commute 35 miles each way on fast A-roads into Edinburgh (A70/A702 depending on which one they are digging up at the time), so 30 miles is at 50-70mph and the last 5 are at 0-7mph. I've seen a nice 2013 legacy with the 2.0 Diesel for £10,300, with 45,000 miles, apparently it has the Bilstein suspension on it, so a firmer ride, which doesn't bother me too much as the Forester is on lowered pedders units and didn't cause me any problems. Might go and look at it on Saturday if i get the chance. I suppose my options are: 2011-2013 Forester 2011-2013 Legacy Another 2011-2013 XV I'd probably go for a diesel again in any of the above as none are really offered as a turbo petrol, and the N/A engines seem like they will be a bit gutless. What would you go for? I'd be half tempted to do this if I got another XV... is that blasphemy?

Also Interested in responses to this. From my research into the Subaru diesel pretty much anything pre 2009 is destined to break a crankshaft (If the internet is to be believed) however ebay/autotrader etc seem to back this up with all the spares or repairs out there being <2009 with a splattering of 2010s. The Legacy (correct me if i'm wrong) was the first to get the improved engine sometime mid 2009. Other than this I have no idea what to look out for, all my research was done based on Forester/Impreza diesels resulting in me buying an XV... go figure!

Minus the STi badges they look quite good Not sure how the salt treats the diamond cut alloys, ours seem to have held up quite well I put a set of winter wheels on, but actually think i prefer them over the originals! I take it the 235 width is causing no issues?
-
Welcome Norrie, Sorry for the lack of response, normally someone on here will answer within a day or two! Glad you are enjoying the car, bet you were happy this weekend to have AWD and heated seats!

£80 for the job! AF Noble fleeced me £85 for Oil and Filter and I had to do the job myself. Anyway the light cleared after another commute and a nights rest, so all is good now. Had followed the brake light defog rub your tummy, pat your head job and got the Flashing light to say it had worked, but who knows, there definitely seems to be a few gremlins in the electrics, I occasional get a check stability control system warning if I start the car and go to full lock immediately.

Changed my oil last night, other than almost painting the entire driveway black (The xv seems to dump about 5 litres in the first second then the last litre over about 10 mins) I cannot get the low oil level to go away. I put about 5.6l of oil in ours is 5.9 from empty, checked the level and it was fine. ( Following the heat up, turn off, 5 mins wait period) drove about ten miles. Stopped, waited 5 mins, checked again. Oil level was fine. Drove another 25 miles, same thing. Every time the low light level was on. Very strange. I think these oil sensors must be a little very sensitive. Hopefully maybe just a small air lock or something. Has anyone else experienced this? Strangest thing is the car felt 100% better after oil and filter, even though it had only been done 6k ago.

Come on then, whats the limit?

Interesting that they fit the roof rails before 99% of the rest of the car. maybe a wee bit of protection to stop stray robot arms denting the roof :)
