Do you know what kind of LPG system is installed? This could be a good place to start, mine is a King system, it flashes while trying to start up in lpg mode, once it flicks over its solid green with a number of lights indicating the amount of fuel left in the tank. If you are able to find the ECU for the LPG system it should have a brand name/code on it that might help on an internet search. I'd try to see if the evaporator(?) is getting hot water from the engine block/radiator (mine comes from the hoses heading to the heater matrix (its an SG 05 so might be different) if this is not getting hot then it wont change over to LPG. Good Luck.

Reply from Subaru UK After this they go on to say - Adding too much engine oil over the maximum stated capacity can induce the engine to ‘hydraulic’ which would be noticeable straight away as the engine would not be able to run properly under those conditions.

Thanks Chris, Just bought those centre caps. As they are black and silver I think I might try and do a black and silver paint job on the wheels. Spoke to Subaru in Penicuik and they said TPMS was around £100 a valve! Sounds like you got a good deal.

£40 ish seems ok quality, it's just a plastic piece wrapped in carbon vinyl. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301470970089

Stuck on my ebay fake carbon effect boot protector to protect the paint when the dog jumps in and out. Think it doesn't look too naff which is nice.

Thanks Chris, Not quite as bad as I thought it was going to be. Just picked these up for £145 off a 2014 Forester. They were a warranty replacement as the paint had started coming away from the centre. Not sure if I should paint them or plasti dip them yet. Now just o find some good (reasonably priced) winter rubber to go on them.

Aberdeen Chris, Do you "need" the TPMS valves? I'm hopefully picking up a set of 17" Forester Wheels Tomorrow, and was going to get some Winter tyres put on. If i dont fit TPMS Valves (and save myself £400) will the car freak out and always tell me that ive lost all my wheels?

I think 5.9L is the correct amount for a Diesel XV if I remember correctly, I think its only 5 for the petrol models?

I contacted my local dealer regarding this (after a keen ebayer informed me of it while buying an oil filter for the car) and was told that it is a check to ensure that the wiring loom is routed past the steering column. They advised it could be done quickly and at my own convenience, or I could wait until my next service where it would be checked. They seemed to think that although it was a safety recall there was nothing to worry about and that of all the cars they had checked not one had been affected yet.

When we bought the XV the garage had just fitted 4 generic tyres, If they were geolanders I would be less inclined to get a set of winter wheels. But as Aberdeen Chris points out the difference between all season and winter rubber is quite wide. With the partner doing 50 miles a day in the XV to night shifts at the hospital its probably just a wise idea for when the snow eventually grinds central scotland to a hault.

Hi Riverman, I'm not able to give you specific details, and I'm sure you have looked on Drive LPG, but just in case: http://www.drivelpg.co.uk/approved-installers/find-an-approved-installer/ It looks like the closest place that services the Vialle systems are in central London :( Best of luck getting it sorted.
-
None specific for the XV yet from what I can see. It's more rims I'm interested in than tyres. As you said, tyres is well covered, but it would be nice to see what people have put on the XV as winter beaters.

Hey guys & gals, We've just had our first snowfall in Scotland and it's got me thinking about Winter wheels and tyres ( I'm actually away in Australia at the moment so didn't get to try it in the snow :( {also there are hundreds of XVs in Perth, it's amazing}) Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap rims and winter tyres? I'd rather have a separate set of wheels and not faff about getting tyres changed over every time the weather changes its mind. original xv wheels are probably out of the question a they are pretty pricey and hard to come by 2nd hand at the moment. What are other people running? Looking forward to getting back to Scotland to play in the snow!

My low level oil light came on again today, I'd driven about 1/3 of a mile then got stuck at a traffic light, I thought I would be there for a while so turned the engine off, lights changed fairly quickly, (maybe 30 seconds) on restarting the car the light came on. I drove about another 1 +1/2 miles and stopped for diesel, checked the oil level and it was just below full. Light stayed on till I got home. Parked had my dinner the went outside and started the car the light had gone off. Anyway, I wonder if it's the short on off on that is causing the light, maybe turning it off when the oil has drained from the pan but hasn't fully circulated through the block? Causing the sensors to read an empty pan? Have other people had the light come on after similar short periods of start stop driving?

I've seen a few of these Launch control videos, they are quite good, if very American, its nice to see that the XV has rally potential, even if it is only the shell that remains from the original car!

Just noticed that the Oil i've stated above is wrong, it should actually be 0W30. I will edit if I can. also just changed the oil filter as tha was wrong also.

Sorry to flogg a dead horse, but i've still not convinced myself that i'm getting the MPG that I deserve. I've just double checked the Service receipt and noticed that they have used 5W30 Engine oil. The manual specifically says 0W30 for our diesels but that 5W30 can be used if replenishment is needed. Should a subaru Garage be using 5W30 when it is not the recommended? Do they have any obligation to use the recommended oil? I was going to do an oil service this weekend so that I'm 100% happy its actually been done. My Faith in Subaru Falkirk is somewhat lacking.

I dont think it came back on after the car was "Power Cycled" I'll try and get a check when I get home, but as she is on night shifts at the moment we are as the phrase goes - Like passing ships in the night?

This Just happened to our XV on Sunday, Girlfriend was driving it back from the lakes with the caravan, I bricked myself after all the messing id done with the oil previously but checked the dipstick after letting it sit for 10 mins and it was bang on the F mark. Glad its happened to a few other people. I was thinking of doing an oil service to make sure that its good and clean in case this is causing the warning light.

Yes £17 does seem a bit expensive, its a genuine subaru part though which could be the difference although ECPs only option was a MANN filter for £16.49 As far as I know the Sump Plug is metal and the same as every other Subaru, so agreed, no need to change it, but for the sake of covering everything someone might need I included it.

Hey everyone, I'm looking to replace the oil and Filter on the Diesel XV, Just wanted to double check a few things: Oil - 5.9 litres Petronas Fully Synthetic 0W30 (For Diesel Engines) Oil - 4.8 litres Petronas Fully Synthetic 0W20 (For Petrol Engines) Oil Filter - 15208AA110 (For Diesel Engine) Oil Filter - 15208AA160 - This was the Wrong filter for my Diesel (Might be the right one for the petrol? Sump Plug Washer - 807020070 (10 for £8.80 on Ebay) Sump/Drain Plug - 807020010 Does that list look ok? or am I missing anything/have the wrong part numbers? If anyone wants to make a list for the Petrol we could use it as a quick lookup for anyone wanting to do an oil change.

Our Average is now sitting at 45mpg so i'm still not 100% happy that its running right, but its so hard to say, obviously with different peoples driving styles and the roads people drive on. If i'm lucky I'll get to do a similar drive this weekend to the one I did at the beginning of the post, on the motorway with the bike rack on. that will give me a nice comparison to see how much improvement there has been (assuming I can limit myself to 70mph on the cruise control).

Turns out FreeSSM v1.2.5 does not yet talk to the XV/Crosstrek so I've got no way of checking. Yes Tidgy, I imagine this should be a free service that they do at service time, I'm just wanting to make sure it's been done, as I've not got the most confidence in the garage that I bought it from unfortunately.

Hey Everyone, I'm Just wondering if anyone is able to tell me what the most recent ECU Software Version Number would be. Its a 2013 Diesel I have, not sure if all Diesel XVs would have the same ECU(?) Software. I've got an OBD2 Cable and the FreeSSM software so I should be able to plug in and check against what mine is, it would be good if we could get a list of the latest software for our cars, so we can check that the dealers are updating them as they should be. :)

Thanks Mr B, my drop links were fairly new from replacing the rear ARB, So I have reused them. A lot of the nuts and bolts at the back were a total nightmare, the bushings had seized to the transverse link bolt which was the worst. Seems to be about a day a corner at the moment just due to the amount of angle grinding and fighting to remove the old bushes and bolts. I had forgoten a set of flange bolts for the rear, so am waiting for them to arrive now to finish off the back. Then i need to have 6 or 7 stiff drinks to steady my resolve and then start on the front.
