  1. Hey Phil The end going would be noticeable at all temps but more so in the low-mid rev range. If you rev the engine up slowly when warm with no knocking its not the bearings likely to be gone. Not sure about a patch from Subaru, maybe another member can comment on that. Maf cleaning is easy so you can always do that yourself with little expense. If youve only changed the oil in the last 16K you could look at other simple service items like fuel filter, (not sure when due), air filter, plugs etc all can make a surprising difference. Try some injector cleaning additives, Wynns from Halfords is good. Just some simple inexpensive good things to get you started. Hopefully someone else can help with more specifics to your model.
  2. Good thread. Firstly Kudos for having a 156 that served you well for 13 years lol. The Subaru is my 36th car. I wont bore you with everything but some highlights are MK1 Golf GTI 2.0 with NOS, 4 Volvo T5's/R's, Saab 95 Aero, Jag XJR V8 Supercharged, 3 Nissan GTIR's, BMW 540i, Vectra V6 Turbo and my current Jag 4.2 V8. Several track cars, Alfa 145 and 2 306 GTI 6's. The Leggy came about because of a need for a Jap manual turbo, an itch if you will. Wanted this car many years ago but couldnt afford the insurance. Now at 36 its not so much of an issue Interesting you mention the sound system. I need a new system, my Leggy has the Jap speaking lady original system that doesnt pick up English stations. Plays most CD's though lol. I have been looking at several options after my gf bought her Seat with an Alpine touchscreen all singing all dancing system which I love.
  3. Welcome Tom! Good looking wagon you have there. Enjoy the forum and good luck with your teething problem.
  4. I just get too tempted when I see things like that! cars not bad either Seriously though if I had the space thats exactly what Id be looking for.
  5. Jesus, you **** the bed or something
  6. Welcome! Cant add much to the reply's above but you have come to the right place for friendly advice. Enjoy the forum and we look forward to seeing how you get on with your search.
  7. Sweet, check out the car shows section. Sounds like we'll bump in to you at some point
  8. Welcome Paul! Sounds like youve done very well with the new motor Pictures of both the Scoob and your CRX would be nice to see.
  9. Welcome! £9k should find you something nice. Both are nice motors, lots of information on here about them and possible reasons for choosing one over the other, engine size etc. A JDM Hawkeye STI 2.0 would be ace but you wont find one for £9k I dont think?
  10. !Removed! customers!
  11. Im only just getting there
  12. I would be tempted to give it a go. The ones on ebay are for the BG5. Seen them on Croooober but expensive with post. Just need to keep an eye out
  13. Yeah thats the only thing, you might have to wait a while as they are not massively common. Haha no idea mate, not something I really pay any attention to, sorry. I dont think wow thats really bad fuel economy though! I get very roughly 250 miles to a tank but my drives are fairly short so economy isnt great. When I get a run its not bad to be fair.
  14. The autos are meant to be very good while shifting but you cant launch it hard . You loose most of the VOD though which is nice so going up the gears maintaining boost would be good. I would certainly be tempted to have an auto but I have a Jag so hence why I went manual. They are not as tolerable to sustained power, lacking a trans cooler I think. If you wanted 315ish bhp it would be strongly recommended to add a cooler. Yes the BP have flappy paddles.
  15. I have wondered about getting one. I guess it spreads/split the air to maximise cooling coverage over the fins. Not sure how you could measure its effectiveness though.
  16. Decals arrived today, excellent as usual! I think I underestimated how big I needed the Laile one lol. Ill have a look see what its like later.
  17. For your bonnet scoop to tmic?
  18. Welcome, So from 1999 up to and including 2003 you will get a BH5 twin turbo GTB Gen3. Later years will be the E Tune but not a lot difference. These are your twin turbo, sequential so like your old one wouldve been, primary turbo till around 4-4.5K then secondary until the world ends. They can be mapped to around 315 bhp on standard engine by tuners like BR Developments. There is a home mod that you can do which I am literally just in the swings of trying now but waiting to get it on the rollers on Thursday to see if its safe. Manual would be better for sure but people do seem to like the tiptronic, suppose this comes down to preference really. No issues with either as far as I know. Yes manual is more stock power 280bhp, 260bhp for the autos. After the BH range you go to BP Twinscroll Gen4. This is a conventional single turbo set up. Twinscroll refers to the type of turbo. Sort of like having 2 turbos in one if you will. Much more efficient. On stock mechanics you can get 320 bhp from them I believe. In short, if you have the monies get a Twinscroll. A BH5 is lovely when it runs right but up keep is more key and they are sensitive. You will spend a lot more time fiddling
  19. If there are no fault codes then not sure, sorry dude.
  20. This may or may not help. http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/How-to-read-clear-fault-codes-on-Subaru-inc-Impreza-/10000000002365952/g.html
  21. 1111 No codes stored 11 Crankshaft position sensor (Don't confuse with above, usually when the crankshaft sensor if dodgy the thing won't start anyway)
  22. Did you discount the crankshaft sensor?
  23. £45K I would spend on something else if you ask me
  24. Passed MOT with no advisories Back on the rollers on Thursday.
  25. Welcome! Sounds like you have just the right mind set! You should def not be looking at Land Rovers for £1.5K lol You'll def get some good pointers here, good luck with your search and we look forward to seeing the impending addition
