Calishere
So here begins the start of a project that has taken me forever to complete... I'd like to thank Moore Performance No Limit Motorsports MA Performance Flat 4 motorsports DCCD PRO It first started back in 2012 when i bought a used 2008 Aspen white STI from a guy located in new york... Im originally from new york but im stationed in Arkansas so it was a bit of a travel but i snagged it for a good deal and with 42k miles on the motor... She was then named " Riley " When i bought her she had basically a stage 2 setup , Aem Intake, Invidia down pipe, invidia n1 exhaust, Tein S tech springs ( crap ) Cobb AP ... After driving it from new york and around Arkansas for a while June 2012- Dec- 2012... i spun a rod bearing .... total loss on the motor / turbo ect.... locked up on the high way and couldn't even crank it over... towed it home ... started spinning the crank by hand and ended up turning it over to hear the sound of rod knock ... with 55k miles on the motor and basically 2 weeks left on the 6 year power train warranty... Subaru decided to warranty the entire motor... i ended up with a brand new SB ... re worked heads / brand new turbo ect..... got it back Jan 2013.... I drove Riley around for about 2 months while talking to a shop ( one that shall not be named but will be known as "****" ) We had come up with a plan to build a 500whp car for a decent price... originally it would of been a BW 8375 w/ supporting mods... Fast forward to march 2013... my car is shipped of to the **** shop in IL where it is taken apart... deposit put that ( $7000 ) and work is started.. with a lead time of about may to have it completed and ready for Scoobapalooza .... The next few months are dedicated to multiple calls... run arounds and lack of progress on their end... I decide to randomly take a visit to said shop... The guy ive been talking to up there is beyond shocked that i showed up randomly... He proceeds to tell me that my motor is being worked at by their " engine builder " i again ask whats going on and around what time should i expect my car back to me ... he says " 2 weeks " .... i press on to new york to visit my family and take some well deserved vacation... two weeks comes and goes... and he starts avoiding my calls all together... I eventually have a friend call him ... he picks up first ring... lol... i immediately there after.... no pick up at all... at this point im on my way back to IL to meet up with a friend that had a job interview at a shop in IL .... I call **** shop and ask to meet up with them the next day... fed up with lack of progress / no proof of anything being done.. i meet up and tell them im pulling my car and either want my money back + a new long block or my motor and my car.... they decided to give me the motor they've worked on and my car back... the shop that my friend ended up getting a job at decides to help out and hold my car for me until i figure things out... so basically my car was at **** shop from Mar 2013 - Aug 2013 with no progress... I finally get the motor and all my parts from them to find out that ... they had gave me the wrong cams / Rod bolts / and a few other parts... furious i threaten legal recourse and they fix what they've jacked up ........ I have the second shop fix the heads and send my car back to me in Feb 2014... still long block out of the car and SB assembled ... So out of curiousty i have the engine shop that did the work send me a copy of the build specs.... they're absolute crap... to give you an idea of what my clearances where.... Mains looked .0024 - .0029 i decide to take the SB apart and get everything where i want them ... after this painful ordeal i've finally gotten my motor together ... installed in my car and running.... Now waiting on time to get it to the Dyno and final tuning.... stants
That sir is a beast ! Sorry to hear about the ordeal you wnet through, at least you didnt receive it back from the 1st shop only for it to fail due to incompetent workmanship. How long are you over here for ? Do you have any plans to map it for uk fuel ? Surrey rolling road comes recommended by people on here
Calishere
Thanks stants ! I really appreciate it. I'll be in the U.K. for a minimum of 3 years. I might have it napped for your fuel but not sure what octane you guys have either. Might stay on e85 ( id have to buy it from Sunoco or vp racing though.) My tuner said he could e-tune me for any fuel. But the issue I'll run into is the system I use to tune is called COBB access port and it's only usdm supported so don't think any of the shops out in the uk would know how to use it or have access to it. I might have to use tactrix or ecutech
stants
petrol stations have 95ron, i'd stay away from supermarkets as its generally poor fuel, your best of just sticking with Shell as the vpower here is 99ron. There are some esso stations that do 97 but subarus tend to like the Shell stuff better, not to sure which subaru tuners run cobb, i know the gtr owners have used it before syvecs became readily available here. Have a look at race dynamix, duncan knows his stuff and has experience with various software, Unfortunately another well respected tuner has recently passed who was down your neck of the woods
savage bulldogs
Sorry to hear about the problems at the beginning, but at least the end results look well worth it (nice work) [emoji106]
savage bulldogs
There's a bit of a shortage of 4wd rolling roads in Suffolk so I normally use clive attowes in norfolk . http://www.enginetuning.net/ Once you've got passed the lack of cat /mot scenario it might be worth running it on the dyno at clives just to make sure it's running right with the change of fuel . I have heard of cob tuning but don't know anything about it I'm afraid and I'm unsure if attowe deals in it . If the dyno shows a afr problem could you show your tuner the data would he be able to " tweek" the map over the Internet?
Calishere
Yes he can do e tuning quite easily, just would also like to see if I have any support outside of him just in case he's busy. I'm just worried about the MOT situation because I'm unsure if I can drive out of Suffolk or not. I might have to trailer my car to a friendly mot station to get it to pass lol but I'll worry about it later. Thanks again stants ! I'm hoping that if I can get it all figured out I'll be joining everyone on some meets and cruises ;) I'll take you for a ride if you'd like hah

We're one country...so your car is either legal or not legal country wide...anyone know any differently? It's not like the US with state laws. savage bulldogs
If the cars insured you can drive it to a mot station with out road tax or mot as long as it's booked in for the mot (although I don't think they like you to travel to far to the mot testing station) Once it's passed the mot you'll have to buy the road tax asap to avoid being fined for not having road tax .Although when you see the state of disrepair suffolk roads are in you'll wonder where our road tax money goes I think There's quite a few decat friendly mot stations about which will allow your scoob to pass as long as it's roadworthy and not got excessively high emissions on idle , but no one's likely to admit it on a public forum [emoji6]
stants
What's the law regarding driving a personal import time wise ? I work up near menwith hill there used to be loads of us registered cars and trucks driving round Harrogate obviously if there here a long time they get registered on AE prefix plates. I'd look at getting it properly under sealed I'm sure you've already seen the amount of salt they chuck down here at the slightest whiff of cold weather [emoji35]

I can drive my Car for 30 days after it arrives before I have to sorn it if I don't get it registered / mot'ed
