Ok i am not much of a gear head and i have read the buying your first subaru thread and have printed it out for when i next test drive.

I have narrowed it down to :

I like this one the most because its got the pro drive kit on it, but the problem being its not got the World Rally Blue colour which is what i like, its got the wrx spoiler too

I am buying the car with a loan from the bank and they are very strict it must be a 07 plate or newer with less than 70k on the clock.

Any help or advice appreciated

Wotcha and welcome

emissions should be less as its not burning as much fuel compared to the turbo??

If you really like the blue go for that one and spend money saved on the spoiler and some wheels

as said the insurance will be cheaper on the non turbo car, as a member on this forum we do get a discount with Adrian Flux so give them a call

nice to see someone has read the how to thread before asking a question nice one ;)

keep us posted :)

The car would need to be an everyday car get me to work when i am not cycling and take the family out, it would be a weekend car mostly so i wouldn't mind if i got the turbo, but then sense and rationality suggests a 2.0 replica 1 for fuel economy and 2 for the reduced road tax

i have spoken to the dealers for the black one he said he would do £5700 over the phone, but if i came in person he could see what he could do i hinted at 5500 and he said come down today and you can get it at that :

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201501280503053/sort/default/maximum-age/up_to_9_years_old/page/5/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/postcode/e125jn/price-to/7000/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/usedcars/model/impreza/radius/1500/make/subaru?logcode=p

So here's my observations

It has a complete STI body kit on it even down to the headlights, pro drive an all

1. its a 2 ltr so petrol wont be bad

2. £285 road tax

Do i have to declare the body kit to insurance ?

Guy on the phone says no, you tell them we sold it to you like that as standard and you dont know the difference

then again he is a car salesman he would tell me van diesel drove it to sell a car

OR

I save up on my own and then buy a car from a private seller for £4k i can get a turbo wrx

but that would be a year from now

and i dont want to tie down my no claims to my current car

Edit*

Look what i found !!!

Crafty bugger !

The only area where you'll save with the n/a is insurance (and only then if you are in your teens/early 20's)....other than that there really isn;t that much in it from my experience. I've had a 2.0ltr n/a and there isn't much in it for MPG or servicing. Service intervals are the same and cost very similar as is MPG. An Impreza na is a very expensive and quite slow 2.0ltr car.  I think I was getting 35 mpg from the na and I get about 28-34 now from my 2.0 WRX depending on how I drive. My road tax for a 2.0 turbo is £285...and my insurance is £220 (although I'm an old man :D )

Are you saying it'll take you a year to save £4k but you could get £5.5k on credit now? So you'll pay interest on that too? Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a deal from your bank or get a 0% credit card for 12-18months ;)

I'm only saying this as the 2.0 wrx has a 0-60 of 5.5secs and the na is what? 8.5 or 9 seconds? Huge huge difference...the na can get beaten off the lights by just about everything on the road (loads more weight for the AWD).

£5.5k for a 0-60 in 9 seconds car... I'd regret it if I bought it I really would....dont want to bring you down and everyone has different priorities etc so do whats right  :) but don't think a na will be hugely cheaper I made that mistake  ;)

Are you definitely set on an Impreza? Have you looked at 2.0R legacies? - same engine as the 2.0R impreza's. Or 3ltr Legacies or outbacks? You can pick up a lovely 3ltr Legacy for 3-4k, i think they are about 240bhp and I'm told the 3ltr engines are "solid".

as you have probably guessed what that dealer said about not declaring it to the insurance is complete ******. Makes me wonder what else he's bullshitting about.

i am 28 years old with 4 years NBC the insurance difference between turbo and non turbo is £100 so not a lot saved.

So petrol between a 2.5 turbo and 2.0 non turbo is not different i would have thought that at 70 mph it would destroy petrol ?

It wouldnt take me a year to save i would not want to tie down my NBC for a year, is what i meant

I already maxed out my credit cards for my flat deposit

Got this one in mind then as a turbo :

Bank loan states that it must be from a dealer they have tightened down big time :

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201502110872476/sort/default/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/postcode/e125jn/maximum-mileage/up_to_70000_miles/page/5/make/subaru/radius/1501/price-to/7000/usedcars/model/impreza/maximum-age/up_to_9_years_old/image-id/2e47f9be34eb3c06d4aa9001084028ad?logcode=p

thats one i like but i know i can get the same specs from a private seller for £5k

Is it worth buying from a dealer and paying £6.5k, 56 plate and 50 on the clock, its bog standard so i dont have to declare anything to insurance

Service intervals are not same. I know I got both turbo and n/a. Fuel .economy is not same. insurance is not same. Only thing thats same is road tax period.

INot from my experience of a 2.0 bug GX and now have a blob

I'm not saying they are the same but just not that much in it...2.0 impreza is an expensive car to run.

Ok guys So good news

I got the loan from the bank as a personal loan so i can spend it where i want got £6k burning a hole in my wallet

help me out please i do like the one i linked for 6.5k

I do think this is an excellent example :

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201502110872476/sort/default/price-to/6500/postcode/e125jn/maximum-mileage/up_to_80000_miles/make/subaru/maximum-age/up_to_9_years_old/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/model/impreza/usedcars/radius/1500/page/5?logcode=p

Is it paying too much ? Its completely standard so i wouldnt need any specialist insurance

The cheepest wrx turbo i can find second hand is £5k like this one:
http://www.gumtree.com/p/subaru/2006-06-reg-subaru-impreza-2.5-wrx-turbo-4wd.-227bhp-4-door.-low-87-000-miles.-heated-seats.-px-/1101131182

and thats got 88k on the clock

is it worth paying 1.5 k more and getting a car with 50 on the clock and full service history ?
