shagarie Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Ok wanting more power so what can be done to this engine im finding lots of conflicting info on its stats any help? Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Tidgy Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 None turbo isn't it? simply put dont bother even trying. Sell it and buy a wrx turbo.
shagarie Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Oh id love to but that requires big moneys Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Tidgy Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 trying to get much nt he way of extra power out of yoru current car will be the same im afraid. Impreza's derive their power from being turbo charged
shagarie Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Fair thanks anyway Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Scoobydoobydan Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Little extras like airfilter change will help if it's all low cost your looking for? Mine made a difference by changing the air filter yes mine is STI / turbo, but it will help on any car with air flow. :D
shagarie Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Its already got 3 XD Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Gaulson Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 You could swap your cams for some slightly harsher ones and maybe a lightened flywheel. That would give you a good change most likely :).
shagarie Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Want a bit more acceleration Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Gaulson Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 cams and lightened flywheel mixed with air filter and exhaust then remapped would give you a good change, that's the route I would go. It's what i was going to do with my Fiesta Zetec S but I bought the Subaru instead. 1
Scoobydoobydan Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I agree with above, airfilter change to K&N or similar (cheap option) then flywheel and maybe a short gear changer as well?? I had a lighter flywheel in my Escort Mk2 they make a difference, plus a short gear shift will help with acceleration as it will all be that bit quicker too. :D 1
Gaulson Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 You can also do most of that in stages, you only really need to do a remap with the cams. That's only to make the most of the change :).
Tidgy Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 by the time you have done all that your talking similar money to swapping for a wrx. 1
Gaulson Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Wouldn't cost too much to do that really, for a decent turbo model you are looking at £4k these days. The price of them keep going up, the lower priced ones are not so healthy usually
Tidgy Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/subaru/impreza-wrx/subaru-impreza-44s-wrx-turbo-awd-2002/4548051 summit like that, £1000 trade in leaving £2500 to find. by the time you do the cams, flywheel then look at brakes, suspension etc etc etc just doesnt make sence to do anything much to a none turbo. you can do all of that and still be slower than a standard wrx
Scoobyghost Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Mine only cost £1300. There are some good bargains out there.
Scoobydoobydan Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Short shifter - £15 eBay Lighter flywheel - £200-£400 eBay (cheaper ones are hit and miss) Airfilter - £45 Scooby world - no point for a mushroom one Cams £100 - £600+ depends how far and new you want from used or not. Cheaper than a new car?? If you want more power still then yes!! Need a turbo model, can't ask a non turbo to be as quick as a turbo model, it's like asking a 3wheeler to have the same handling as a Scooby!!! Lol :D

You'll also need a cambelt kit for the cam change.
shagarie Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 I have no delusions about it getting tgat much power from a na if i wanted that much power id prop get it transplanted but still as the ej20's seem so versatile just seeing what its potential is Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Scoobydoobydan Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Very true that man!! If your not going to do the work yourself, I would look at a new model, labour on top of the above will be a good bargain as ScoobyGhost is saying plus a few quid to tweak the new model too!! Labour will blow this way above the turbo model.
savage bulldogs Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 As with any impreza handling tweeks will make a big improvement with speed while cornering Upgraded brakes will also help as you can brake later when entering a corner . Weight loss is a free mod which can help a bit (ac removal ect ...) As for more power I'm afraid tidgy's right Imo cos cheap classic turbos can be bought for under £1500 now days and will give you most of the upgrades above + 100 hp . If you fancy something different you could strap a supercharger to your n.a but by the time it's bought set up and you've upgraded the brakes , suspension ect to cope with the extra power your probably talking about wrx money +some 2
