Impreza gb270 advice please

hi I have come across this car and looking for any advice on them, wasn't planning on changing car anytime soon however this ticked my fancy something rotten. 50/50 on going and getting it but haven't found much info on them. Any advice appreciated repair costs, part availability etc how bad on fuel is it etc

Although it looks like a nice , clean and tidy example of a rare ish model ...... It is basically a 2.5 wrx with different trim so I'm not sure if it demands spec c money.

But I'm a classic man myself and would probably invest in a p1 or type r . As good clean examples seem to be going up in value rather than down like the newages [emoji6]

I did wonder about the price but figured that was just because of low miles. 

Absolutely love a classic, if I had space I would buy one tomorrow but I need something I can use reliably a lot with of driving around the country 

did like the idea of limited edition though I would be horrific when having to leave in a car park etc.

I do under 5k a year in classic and although it spends a lot of it's time in bits it's normally through choice .

I dare say you'd be hard pushed to find another gb270 with milage that low and maybe in that good a condition .

So maybe it's worth that and might be worth even more in 10 yrs if kept in the same condition.

I think a spec c or jdm sti would put a bigger grin on your face though

Thanks I'll look about. Going from a 2.0NA hatch so I imagine anything turbo would make me grin. My car has decent pull but lacks that push out the corners tbh. Looked at a wrx hatch but I think it'll always come second to a saloon. Then again all the time and effort spent on mine would be a shame to get rid at a presumably huge loss. 

 

But I agree with the mileage. Might shoot the garage a message and see if I can get some pics from underside and engine bay

Two nice cars there, I had seen the first one but not the second. Ideally I would want low mileage And unmodified. I would say something that's not been thrashed but that's not gonna happen :D 

i am gonna ask a proper noob question here, aside from the power what's actually the difference between wrx and Sti? 

 

Think better hang fire till I learn more about these cars and save some more

there is quite a bit - has been covered in a thread a while back but off top of head...

larger wheel bearings, larger and different / lightweight hubs (alloy), larger ARB's, possibly different internals (not sure) larger brake discs, different calipers, possibly different injectors (again not sure). More power.

The mods on the silver one are pretty good from what you can see - there could do with being more detail on the actual engine components used but Bob Rawle has a very good reputation for his work, all of the external stuff can be reversed to standard no problem.

Thrashing a scoob is no issue if you warm the car up properly and cool down after, it is the poorly maintained examples you need to look at with a view to corrective maintenance.

If you are willing to take the time you can get the right car for you - a lot of the newer cars tend to be owned by the 'ahem, cough' more mature owner that takes a bit more pride in ownership as insurance can put many potential younger owners off + the £500 tax isn't as attractive to those with a tighter budget.

But the ultimate standard low mileage non thrashed examples are brand new in showrooms - that is the only way you can be absolutely certain - otherwise it is service history and former owner.

Thanks for the info jay,. I looked at a new one and got an insurance quote which was only 100 ish more than mine originally I didn't even bother searching just presumed it would be a fortune and horrific mpg etc. After joining here I found out they aren't actually that bad then curiosity took over to find the insurance ain't bad either, 25yr old and £800 for a new Sti . So I started searching. I'll hold off for a wile till I learn more and see what comes around. Get to grips working on this aswell
