ChrisL
Hi all. As the title states. I'm currently looking for an impreza sti or wr1 both blobeyes. I hear that they all need headgaskets and or engine rebuilds about 80-90k? Is this right? Thanks for your help! Scoobyghost
That's not entirely accurate. Maybe the abused 10+ owner cars that no-one seems to care about will need extensive work. I own a uk classic which is on 173k miles. There's plenty of owners out there running high mileage cars.
Sandals
2.5l engines are more likely... but it's a big stretch saying that they all need done. The 2l lump is very reliable if properly maintained
Jay762
All depends on how they have been maintained and how the engine has been treated. The way I look at it if buying a car with that mileage is completing an engine rebuild gives me a known baseline to move forward so it is a cost I would factor in. Tidgy
As above, depends how they are treated. My type r was pretty heavily driven and engine went just over 100k, but that did include track days and such. plenty of cars running 100k miles +
ChrisL
Cheers for your help! So if you had the choice of a modified one with 96k or a standard with 65k. What would you suggest Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk

Scoobyghost
Cheers for your help! So if you had the choice of a modified one with 96k or a standard with 65k. What would you suggest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Standard car at 65k but it does depend on a lot more factors. Service history for a start. Type of parts used for services. Number of owners. Recent work carried out. Even the brand of tyres.

Recent work carried out. Even the brand of tyres. They all seem to have a few owners which is disappointing. My rs4 2007 I was the 3rd and that had covered 100k by time I sold it. I miss that car. So what parts do I need to look for? Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
Scoobyghost
I'm the third owner of mine. If it's had asda 10w40 oil in it run away. Just little pointers in the quality of branded parts used.
kershaw-330s
I would say it would be you bearings that will go first even if well maintained at about 100k they're getting towards the end of their usable life if the car has had spirited use , mainly because of the design of the flat engine the bearings are slimmer that a conventional strait engine , thus meaning they wear out quicker but the life can be prolonged with 3k or sorter services and proper warm up procedure, but I would be cautious buying a scoob with over 100k or at least be prepared to spend some cash on it.
