stuartie
Looking good bud 👍, bet you can't wait for the postie to come with all the goodies and begin the rebuild
savage bulldogs
I did find it hard to believe that a "scooby specialist " fitted all those new parts 800 miles ago to a knocky engine . Let alone fit a new clutch into a bellhousing that was covered in oil without investigating why and where it was leaking from [emoji849]I had only intended to clean the bellhousing but as usual i got a bit carried away [emoji850] mind you a clean bay not only looks better but makes it much eaiser to spot leaks or issues in the future .Your right there stu , i can't wait to get stuck in with the engine build , although I'm not looking forward to the 1,000 miles of no smiles (low boost running in period) [emoji53]I see your build is coming along nicely, engine back in at the weekend is it bud ?
stuartie
Yeah mines is coming along ok mate would have liked to have been a bit further along with it if i'm honest but as we know life can get in the way of things 😒, i should have it all ready to put back in through the week as long as i can get a couple of hours every night after work to get the build finished, i won't get it in next weekend though as have the kids so won't get a spare moment but the week/weekend after it will be in as i won't be letting anything get in the way of that 😁👍
savage bulldogs
If it's your first time fitting a scooby lump ,Couple of pointers for the engine refit ....If you've removed the clutch (to remove the thrust race) , make sure it's aligned properly with a alignment tool .Cable tie the clutch fork so the clutch pivot pin is out of the way , otherwise it can engage the thrust race into the clutch before the engine and box are fully mated together. Jack the gearbox up to help align the engine and box .Search on here for coolant refill threads , as scoobs are renound for getting coolant air locks .Pull the crank sensor and let the engine turn over a few times to prime the oil pump and get the oil around the engine , before initial start up [emoji6]
stuartie
Yeah this is the first time i've fitted one of these engines so thanks for the tip about cable tying the clutch fork up out the way 👍 and i know about the coolant as i'v already gave it a flush and refill before so i know how much of a pita it can be to bleed, i have a new exedy clutch to go on and i have an alignment tool kicking about in my toolbox somewhere so I'll be fine there aswell and I'll leave the crank sensor unplugged for the first crank over, thanks for the advice bud 👍👍
savage bulldogs
Postie has been , guess I'd better hurry up and get everything run through pats hot wash 1 evening this week [emoji848]Mind you i could always start rebuilding the heads after dinner done tonight [emoji4]Not the best pic but there's pretty much every subaru gasket and seal needed to rebuild a ej207 , new headstuds ,new nitraded crank ,new rings , king racing bearings and cossie stopper headgaskets [emoji6]
stuartie
Ooo shiney bits pity you can't see them 😉, let the fun begin 👍
savage bulldogs
Ok ,so having over 700hp's worth of subarus and having to drive my daughter's 1.3 k.a [emoji850] is not only ironic but it's starting to get on my nerves [emoji849]So hopefully this build will start to pick up momentum now [emoji6] with upgrading the bearings to king race spec, the headgaskets to cossie stopper headgaskets and having the heads pressure checked , skimmed , valves recut and renewing the stem seals . The build budget has grown a bit now but hey "build right , build once [emoji6] ...... but the cam covers were too manky [emoji849] So i Decided to get the cam covers blasted to try and keep things clean but oe [emoji4] Made a start on rebuilding the avcs heads this week and will have them finished by friday evening. With the intention of starting to build the bottom end over the weekend [emoji41]Halfway through pic of me refitting the recut and lapped in valves , new stem seals, springs and collets .Might not update this thread too much over the weekend but I'll be making progress and taking pics , for when i get chance to [emoji6]
stuartie
Nice work so far bud 👍 bit of a sh*tter you having to go around in a wee ford ka though, my missus used to have one and i'm sure my wee lad could have went faster on his push bike 😂, will be good to see any pics you manage to take over the weekend 😉👍
savage bulldogs
Made a fair bit of progress today , finished off fitting the valves into both heads . Then although I'm fitting a new crank and king race bearings i plastigauged all the crank bearings . Which turned out to be pointless as all the oil clearances were spot on but assumption can lead to fook ups and i feel better knowing its right . Gapped the new rings to smack bang in the middle of subaru factory tollerances , smeared graphogen builders paste over cylinder walls and bearings .then fitted 2 pistons and rods to 1 bank , to save using the piston wrist pin access holes to fit the new pin clips

savage bulldogs
Bit more done today , still got a way to go but i feel like I'm getting somewhere now [emoji41] Wiped the block half mating surfaces free from oil , added the new o rings and used liquid three bond gasket sealer before torque'ing the block bolts down . Fitted the other 2 pistons via the access bungs ,with new wrist pin clips and bung gaskets , followed by the oil separator plate. The uprated Graham goode oil pump has only done 800miles but due to the old crank rumble i stripped the pump , put it through the engineers hot wash and reassembled it with graphogen builders paste . to insure there wasn't any debris in it to contaminate the oilways before fitting that and the water pump . Bottom water pipe fitted and (hot washed ) oil cooler fitted .
savage bulldogs
Wiped the block deck and freshly machined /refurbished heads free from oil . Soaked the new head bolts and washers in oil , fitted the Cossie stopper headgaskets and torqued the heads down according to the service manual instructions. Still got a good day or 2 to go , fitting the cams , pulleys , sump , cam covers , timing belt kit , manifolds, turbo ect but it's definitely taking shape now [emoji4]

savage bulldogs
Cheers chaps [emoji106] i do like to get stuck in [emoji6]Managed to a bit this evening on the right hand head too [emoji4] got the lash caps in , plastigauged the cam cap oil clearances and checked the valve clearances (both of which are spot on) . I've got new avcs banjo bolts and filters to fit but just put the old ones in to bung the holes for now and put the vapor blasted cam cover on . to keep any debris out until the engines sealed up properly. plus they cost me £30 to get em shiney and i like shiney scooby stuff [emoji4] 2
savage bulldogs
Been a bit pre occupied this week but found the right frame of mind and a bit of time today . Got the left hand cams and avcs solenoids in and water pump "hard lines" on ( as these go behind the timing belt backing plate ) , fitted all the new crank /cam seals and some of the block / head sensors . Pretty much ready to fit the pulleys and timing belt kit , so getting close now [emoji4]
