Scubzjames
Hey! Not posted for a while. So I took my car (2004 sti) for a service the weekend just gone, straight away Kev at scoobyclinic came up to me and said “you know that’s running on 3 cylinders don’t you?!” I had no idea it was! Anyway so we did some testing and turns out one of the cylinders is leaking and is now getting a full rebuild and I’m looking at a huge bill [emoji24][emoji17]. So the question for you guys is... do I go down the route of while it’s in bits upgrade certain internal engine parts or? I’m pretty cluesless really. I never imagine I would be in this situation so I am interested to see what you guys think and would do. In the future I can’t see me wanting more than 350hp but you never Know haha anyway any similar experiences, stories or thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk

Scubzjames
2 years now. Only do around 2000 miles a year. He said it might of been caused by bad fueling but I have never put anything but 99 in. We think the damage was already done when I got itSent from my iphone using Tapatalk

Rybo89
It would feel like a Honda on 3 cylinders. Did it feel like a Honda? Gutless?

mattiekane
I'd be asking questions, would of thought a fueling issue would of been picked up on motLoud pipes save lives

Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk never good news 😞 It depends on what you want really, if your sure your not going over 350 then replace with stock and reuse what you can (bear in mind they need to strip it to see exactly whats gone wrong and what damage there is, sounds like heads will need a refresh). If your maybe thinking about upping the power at some point then may as well do the rods and pistons while its apart as it saves doing them later. should be good for mid 400's at that point. The best bet is have a chat with Kev and see what spec he advises, they have built and tuned hundreds of them over the yeas so know whats worth doing and whats not to achieve reliability at certain power levels. ROSSCOSM
Was there a check engine light? Surely if it was running on 3?

mattiekane
Just seems odd that 4 weeks after an MOT you need an engine rebuild on a car that's not driven very often.I may be missing something but that's just my thoughts and opinion on it.(I'm am aware that opinions are like arseholes, every one has one and they all stink)Loud pipes save lives
Scubzjames
Well it was a bit of a shock but they did the tests and i saw the results of the compression test and they were in the red :/. It struggled through emissions and that’s all I know [emoji2369]. Are you suggesting the garage may have it wrong or? savage bulldogs
Being a 2004 sti I think it will have a 2ltr ej207 , if it's the same as the v7sti ej207 they're a very capable engine in standard guise (mid 400hp) . So just a standard refresh with maybe stopper headgaskets . I'm not saying that your being ripped off but if I'd like to know why it's running on 3 cylinders .... no spark , fuel or compression are the only 3 reasons a cylinder won't fire . If it's a compression issue then I'd understand why a rebuild has been suggested but the other 2 might be a much cheaper fix . I Do eco what Matt said and find it difficult to believe that it's been running on 3 cylinders , passed a mot ,not got a constant eml and you haven't noticed .
