Using to much petrol

Hi I'm new to this forum. 

Just brought a 2009 impreza 1.5r hatchback on Saturday. Had brakes and disks just done and a few other bits. The problem I'm having is with petrol usage only had for a week and had to fill up already. Any tips or ideas what can be done to help the usage as it doesn't seem right the amount of petrol used.. Thanks

Wotcha and welcome - The 1.5 suffers from a power to weight ratio challenge - small engine but by comparison a large heavy car to lug around

This I would say would be possible with a light foot on a long motorway run but urban driving I would say a lot less

My 2.0 RX NA returns 28mpg ave with urban driving 37- 42 on a long run

 

Do you have the dash ave mpg indicator. Has it been serviced regularly - new filter, plugs etc. If it has been run on rubbish fuel the injectors may be partially blocked.

Try adding a bottle of injector cleaner for the next few times you fill up - If you can get hold of BG44K that is good stuff but tends to be from a local garage not in shops, or Millars is another one I am using when I cannot get the BG stuff

If it makes you feel better my 2007 2.5 liter WRX does 22-23 mpg around town and can manage 28 mpg on the motorway or dual carriageway. Full tank £65 ranges from 210-300 miles.

You need to work out what it is using and see if it miles away from the Manufacturer figures (which are generally bullsh*t anyway).

Balance the fuel cost against the fun.  My 3.0R Outback won't do better than 25mpg but the buzz when you accelerate is incredible.
