Hey guys iv just bought myself a 1992 wrx sti and its not running right. Sometimes when I go over 5k revs it feels like a missfire and doesn't pull.. and sometimes it just dies and the revs go down to 0 until I change gear! Can anyone help? cars got a td05 turbo and boosting at 0.75 bar

Could be the safety mechanism on the engine coming in. I think I've seen it referred to fuel cut on the Subaru. Anyway of reducing boost to test?

I agree, check for codes first. It's going into limp mode for some reason. It's not boosting right either, so I'm guessing it's MAF related but the codes will reveal all.

The engine management light doesn't come on.. when im at high revs its really sluggish and doesn't pull

I would check your vacuum lines as this can cause your car to read boost wrong and cause fuel cut.

Also i would check your fuel pressure as I have seen it before that the fuel pump or pressure regulator are giving up and your engine is starving of fuel.

Hope this helps :)

you could also have a split tube somewhere which is allowing boost to escape triggering a fault situation

I forgot to mention my starter motor struggles to turn over too.. is this problem related to it?

Well is possible as if have a voltage problem such as earthing issue your fuel pump voltage & current could be reduced thus at high fuelling requirement the fuel pressure drops as pump efficiency reduced thus fuelling run low/lean & thus faults.

Loads of other possibilities too & needs looking into quickly as some possible reasons could cause serious engine damage.

Iv just spoken to a mechanic and he said my actuator could be the problem. Its a bit bent and loose whats your opinios? Thanks

Could be any chance you could post a picture up so we can see how bent it is?

Ill make a video tomorrow and show you mate.. took it out again tonight and I don't think its a boosting problem. Needle stayes on 0.8 bar even when its really sluggish. . When I prush the acceleraer slowly it doesn't missfire only when aggressively.

Try checking the condition / gaps on your spark plugs as boost is known to "blow the spark out" if their gapped incorrectly /worn .

It would show a misfire fault code if you follow the steps in the link above to check your ecu codes yourself

Its starting to sound like you need to complete a good service - good oil & filter plus decent plugs and possibly an air filter then start trouble shooting - check the codes, check all your earth contact points are corrosion free, check your tubing for splits / leaks, check for a spark - even though thought that could be breaking down under load

I would echo Mr B and advise caution whilst you are investigating because if you are driving around still boosting fine but having fuel dropping off you are going to run lean and that is like turning your blow torch flame from yellow flickering flame to bright blue and it will burn through your pistons in no time

Which plugs should I get? And what gaps should they be? Im also going to get new coils as a guy told me this could be causing the problem too

Don't take this the wrong way bud! But don't replace coil packs just as he says ιt could be the problem! Get codes read. You don't want to go throwing money away on guess's

What fuel are you using just out of interest if you are using the 95ron it's amazing on how bad that makes a car run. But agree do the codes 1st mate if there is any be able to narrow it down a lot better well still some guess work :)
